ADA 2021 Thanks to all who made a pledge to the Annual Diocesan Appeal. THE FIGHT FOR LIFE Join the Heart of Peoria Catholic Community in our current 40 Days for Life Campaign as parishioners from all four of our churches gather together in front of the Planned Parenthood on Knoxville Ave. Feel free to join those gathered at any point during the vigil to pray and be a visible sign of the message of life. You are free to come and go as you wish. The Vigil will be going from 12:00pm until 3:00pm on the days referenced below. A Rosary will be said at the start of each hour for the intentions of the unborn and women in crisis pregnancy.

Area News The "Holy Hour for the Rights of the Unborn" will be held at Saint Mark's Church, 1113 W. Bradley Avenue, in Peoria. It will be held at the usual time of 7:00 P.M., on the first Monday of the month on October 4th, 2021. If you have received the vaccine, facial masks are not required. It normally consists of Benediction, the Rosary, and other prayers. Please join us in praying to God for the protection of these innocent lives and the restoration of their Constitutional rights.

Militia of the Immaculata Village begins October 9

The Militia of the Immaculata National Office in Peoria is happy to announce that a new MI Village is being created to promote total consecration to Mary with Catholic formation in the spirituality and mission of St. Maximilian Kolbe. The MI Village in Peoria will meet once a month on the second Saturday of each month beginning Saturday, October 9, 10:00—11:00am at the Little Garden of the Immaculata house, 2106 W. Heading Avenue in West Peoria. The group is open to MI members and other Catholic adults wishing to discover a most effective way to live one’s Baptism and Confirmation. Annie and her dad had so much fun making soup f o r the Spoo nfu l Fundraiser! They created Thai Coconut Chicken Soup. The Spoonful pick up is Sunday from 10 AM to 2

PM. Come take a tour of the Kitchen and historic St. Joseph Church when you come to pick up your soups and pottery bowls. While many of the soups are sold out, we still have some delicious soups left! Uncle Pete's Chili, Taco Soup, Ham & Beans and Wisconsin Chili Mac are ready for you to take home. Come check out the pottery bowls, painted by volunteers. There are some real works of art!

ITALIAN AMERICAN SOCIETY FESTA PICNIC Have you missed the Italian American Society of Peoria Festa Picnic the last two summers? The food, the fellowship, the fun.... We've missed it, too! THE EAST BLUFF COMMUNITY CENTER, occupying the former St. Bernard’s School building, will be hosting its first annual Bids for the Bluff auction October 16 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. The event will celebrate the East Bluff neighborhood and Community Center as a vital neighborhood resource. Consisting of a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres, presentations, and performances by East Bluff service providers and residents, the event will feature both In-person and virtual attendance options. The in-person event, which will have a Covid restricted capacity, will include foods prepared by local vendors, and a series of activities provided by East Bluff talent and Community Center partners. The virtual option, open to everyone, will allow people to participate in the auction and Live Stream many of the events of the afternoon. “Dejen que los niños se acerquen a mí y no se lo impidan, porque el Reino de Dios es de los que son como ellos. Les aseguro que el que no reciba el Reino de Dios como un

niño, no entrará en él”. Querida familia, la afirmación de Jesús sobre el ser como niños hoy desconcierta a los Apóstoles, porque en el momento que muchas personas llevaban sus hijos para que Jesús los toque, los Apóstoles se quedaron desconcertados porque mientras ellos querían impedirlo, Jesús dice: “Dejen que los niños se acerquen a mí y no se lo impidan, porque el Reino de Dios es de los que son como ellos. Les aseguro que el que no reciba el Reino de Dios como un niño, no entrará en

él”. Esto es un llamado de atención para todos, especialmente para los Apóstoles que no quieren que los niños se acerquen a Jesús. No haremos aquí un juicio sobre lo que estaban pensando los Apóstoles y porque no querían que se acerquen a Jesús, a lo mejor era porque creían que estos podían llegar a molestar en un contexto en donde mucho de ellos a la mejor están cansados. Ellos ven a los niños como una molestia luego de una jornada probablemente dura para ellos. No lo sabemos pero no nos detendremos aquí. Pensemos un poco, ¿han tenido la experiencia de estar cuidando y jugando con niños?, yo, muchas veces. Y es gracioso porque como sacerdote no me casaré y ni tendré hijos. Pero muchas veces trabajamos con niños en el contexto de las escuelas o actividades parroquiales. Cuando he trabajado con ellos, es increíble como termino cansado, ellos tienen un energía especial, propia de su vida llena de ganas de conocer el mundo alrededor y explorar todo. Pero además, hay algo que los hace diferentes, la inocencia, la sencilles, la simpleza de sus actos. Esto es lo que no nos interpela, esto es lo que expone Jesús en medio de los apóstoles en el día de hoy. Jesús dice: “Les aseguro que el que no reciba el Reino de Dios como un niño, no entrará en él”. Y Jesús cumple su palabra, el que no sea como niño no entrará en el Reino de los cielos. Pero, ¿Qué nos quiere decir Jesús con esto?, Para entrar en el Reino de los cielos, hace falta un pasaporte: ser pequeño. Ésta es la identidad que nos distingue delante de Dios; la virtud que más nos acerca a Él. Una canción dice: “¿Qué tendrá lo pequeño, que a Dios tanto le agrada?” Cristo nos enseña en este Evangelio que ser pequeño significa volver a ser niño. Implica un cambio, recuperar cada día aquel tesoro que se va desgastando con los años…Un niño tiene las manos pequeñas. Todo le queda grande, todo le sobrepasa, en todas las sillas sus pies quedan colgando. Pero es feliz aunque no tenga el control de todo. Más aún: su felicidad consiste en que no quiere controlarlo todo. El niño vive para recibir, para descubrir, para sorprenderse. La grandeza de un niño no está en su poder sobre cosas y personas; más bien él es libre de este deseo de gobernar su mundo. Y así como él encuentra su seguridad en papá y mamá, cada uno de nosotros cuenta con un Padre maravilloso, quien de verdad lo gobierna todo para nuestro bien. Cuando sentimos que nuestras manos son pequeñas, que no podemos agarrarlo todo y dirigir las circunstancias…ésta es la oportunidad para ser niños de nuevo, poniendo nuestra confianza en Dios. Un niño está apenas entrando al mundo. Le falta experiencia. Cada día aprende algo nuevo. Y si cae al dar los primeros pasos, pronto su mamá lo levanta para que siga aprendiendo a caminar. Esto también es ser pequeño. No somos perfectos ni lo sabemos todo. ¡Cuántas veces cometemos errores, nos caemos, o nos perdemos! Pero esta realidad no es un motivo para desanimarnos. Todo lo contrario: saber que nos hemos perdido nos abre las puertas para descubrir que Dios nos busca. Cuando admitimos la caída con sencillez de niño, podemos alegrarnos con mayor gratitud hacia Dios que nos levanta. Al reconocer los propios límites nos damos cuenta que tenemos un Padre de Amor y misericordia sin límites. Manos a la obra, a ser como niños. Rezo por ti. Jesús les dijo: “Moisés prescribió esto, debido a la dureza del corazón de ustedes. Pero desde el principio, al crearlos, Dios los hizo hombre y mujer. Por eso dejará el hombre a su padre y a su madre y se unirá a su esposa y serán los dos una sola cosa. De modo que ya no son dos, sino una sola cosa. Por eso, lo que Dios unió, que no lo separe el hombre”. Ya en casa, los discípulos le volvieron a preguntar sobre el asunto. Jesús les dijo: “Si uno se divorcia de su esposa y se casa con otra, comete adulterio contra la primera. Y si ella se divorcia de su marido y se casa con otro, comete adulterio”. Después de esto, la gente le llevó a Jesús unos niños para que los tocara, pero los discípulos trataban de impedirlo. Al ver aquello, Jesús se disgustó y les dijo: “Dejen que los niños se acerquen a mí y no se lo impidan, porque el Reino de Dios es de los que son como ellos. Les aseguro que el que no reciba el Reino de Dios como un niño, no entrará en él”. Después tomó en brazos a los niños y los bendijo imponiéndoles las manos.

La aventura del recorrido de las casas ha comenzado, mes a mes y luego, aproximándonos a la fiesta de la Virgen de Guadalupe, día a día haciendo nuestras estrellas que representan el manto de la Virgen. Estamos recorriendo y viviendo con intensidad la preparación para los festejos de esta próxima fiesta de nuestra Madre que llevara como lema: “Junto a María de Guadalupe vivamos en santidad”. Hacemos familia, somos familia, caminamos juntos. Dios los cuide y nos vemos en esta aventura.

¿Serás Parte? "Todo lo que hagas, de palabra o de hecho,

hazlo todo en el nombre del Señor Jesús, dando gracias a Dios Padre por medio de

él" (Colosenses 3:17). El lema de la Campaña Diocesana Anual de 2021 - Todo en el Nombre de Jesús - se deriva de este pasaje de las Escrituras. Jesucristo debe seguir siendo el corazón y el alma de todo lo que nosotros, como cristianos católicos, sabemos y creemos. Para nosotros que vivimos en la Iglesia de Peoria, la fe en Jesús siempre debe ser fundamental para quiénes somos y cómo tratamos de vivir. Esta fe y relación con Jesús también es fundamental para la forma en que nosotros, sus obispos, tratamos de pastorear esta diócesis. Su apoyo a la Campaña Diocesana Anual es su respuesta fiel a Jesús vivo en la Iglesia. Ya sea que se vea a través de la educación católica superior de nuestra juventud, ministerios que se preocupan por la formación de fe vulnerable de las personas, o el trabajo mundano detrás de escena de la curia que, si no estuviera disponible, de otra manera se convertiría en la carga de la comunidad local, iglesias y escuelas, es su generosidad la que ayuda a que esto sea posible. Es con profunda gratitud que reflexionamos sobre los éxitos pasados y esperamos con gran entusiasmo las nuevas oportunidades. Unidos en oración, le pedimos que se una a nosotros para dar un regalo a la Campaña Diocesana Anual. "Caliz pergrino por las vocaciones del Corazón de Peoria" ..._ ¿Qué es esto?_, El Cáliz peregrino el corazón de Peoria será una gracia para las familias que lo tenga en su casa y para todas las vocaciones de especial consagración (Sacerdotes, Religiosos, Consagrados, Misioneros) _¿Qué es un cáliz?_, en donde se consagra la Precisa Sangre de Jesús y además estará acompañado de una Patena en donde se consagra el preciso Cuerpo de Jesús, ambos estarán dentro de una caja de vidrio para su protección. _¿Cómo será esto?_, cada domingo en la Misa de 12:15pm, en Santa María Catedral, la familia que haya llevado el Cáliz la semana anterior le entregara el Cáliz a la familia que lo llevará esa semana y yo los bendecire en Misa. Este pasado 22 de Setiembre comenzamos la novena a Santa Teresita del Niño Jesús. En conjunto con el “Cáliz peregrino del corazón de Peoria” que ya ha empezado a recorrer nuestros hogares y estos días de profunda oración en la novena a Santa Teresita, pedimos a Dios Santas Vocaciones a la vida consagrada. Dios responderá, a un pueblo que aclama. H a c i e n d o eco de la invitación de la oficina de Vocaciones, este pasado 1 de octubre a las 7pm en la Catedral Santa María estuvimos en la Hora Santa por las vocaciones dirigida por el Padre Chase H i l g e n b r i n c k a c t u a l Director de reclutamiento de vocaciones. PRAYER TO ST JOSEPH

Joseph, strong and gentle saint, dear to God and his faithful shadow, remember me in all my spiritual and material needs. Be my advocate before the Father. To you I bring my heart and soul and all my longings, sanctify them with your burning faith, your unfaltering hope, and with that great, self-sacrificing love that was the secret of your hidden sanctity. Christ was your peace: give Him to my heart, then by his light I will see the way that I must walk to stay with Him. Give me the courage not to turn back because of darkness, sorrow, or sufferings. Teach me the joy of loving God’s Will, and help me to live, as you have done, within its calm and peaceful depths. Amen.
