THE HOPE AND PROMISE OF REDEMPTION The prophet Jeremiah prophesies the end of the Babylonian exile. He describes how the weak and sorrowful people now return with joy. These are the scattered people of God: the blind and the lame, the mothers and pregnant women. They shall be led along an easy road so that no one will stumble. The Lord’s kindness and mercy are on all these weak and broken people. Here and in Psalm 126 we find the most lovely poetic images of God’s love and care for us. “Those that sow in tears / shall reap rejoicing. Although they go forth weeping, / carrying the seed to be sown, / they shall come back rejoicing, / carrying their sheaves” (Psalm 126:5–6). Although God had to punish Israel for their many sins, God never forgot them, scattered as they were, and brings them all back to the land of their ancestors, there to flourish and be joyful again. We can see in this the hope and the promise of our own redemption, gathered from the far corners of the earth into the great banquet of God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

LA ESPERANZA Y PROMESA DE REDENCIÓN El profeta Jeremías anuncia el fin del exilio en Babilonia. Describe cómo los débiles y los tristes ahora regresarán con alegría. Éste es el pueblo dispersado de Dios: los ciegos y cojos; preñadas y paridas. Serán guiados por un camino llano para que nadie tropiece. La bondad y misericordia del Señor están con este pueblo débil y deshecho. Aquí y en el Salmo 126 (125) encontramos imágenes poéticas extremadamente hermosas del amor y cuidado que Dios tiene por nosotros. “Los que sembraban con lágrimas, / cosechan entre cantares. Al ir, iba llorando, / llevando la semilla; / al volver, vuelve cantando, / trayendo sus gavillas” (Salmo 126[125]:5-6). Si bien Dios tuvo que castigar a Israel por sus muchos pecados, nunca se olvidó de ellos aun cuando estaban dispersos, y los llevó de regreso a la tierra de sus ancestros para que prosperaran y fueran felices de nuevo. "God works in mysterious ways." I have heard and said this phrase many times in my life but I have not felt the full weight of this expression until now. I really wanted to go with Dr. White and his team to Jamaica for their medical mission trip and I had originally planned to go. However, I had something in my personal life that I wasn’t sure was going to let me go on this trip and because of it and the fear of the unknown I decided not to go. There were a few times after that, Dr. White had asked me if still wanted to go and as much as I wanted to, still the fear of the unknown kept me from going. Then, one night I mentioned to my wife that I had a dream that Dr. White sent me a text at the last minute, saying that someone had bailed out. He said, I could still go if I wanted to. My wife and I laughed about it and the improvability that it would never happened so we went on with our evening. Then the next morning as my wife was getting ready to leave for a subbing job I received a text from Dr. White saying that there was a spot open and if I wanted to go. I showed the text to my wife who turned to me and said “There is no fighting this anymore. Just go, obviously God wants you to”. I immediately let Dr. White know that I was in and just like that, I’m going to Jamaica. I am excited for this opportunity, however I never fundraised for it. I would like to do my part to cover my cost for this trip as well as to cover the cost of the last minute change in the ticket. This is where you all come in. I am looking for donations . I am looking to raise about $2,000 for this trip. If you would like to donate please drop off your donations in the rectory in an envelope marked youth ministry. Please make any checks out to W.A.C.M. leave the memo line blank so that you can receive a tax donation credit. Thank you all for your support and I will be collecting money during and after the trip to make up my cost. With your help, we can make this happen.

Tenía muchas ganas de ir con el Dr. White y su equipo a Jamaica para su viaje de misión médica. Originalmente había planeado ir con ellos. Respect Life: Topics that range along life’s spectrum from birth until death such as abortion, physician-assisted suicide, euthanasia, family, and marriage are topics for reflection and meditation. All human life is

considered sacred from the moment of conception because “it involves the creative action of God and it remains forever in a special relationship with the Creator” (CCC 2258). Human life should be “respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception” (CCC 2270). Life is God’s gift. Help us to see the value and meaning of our lives. Amen.

Les Petits Chanteurs France Boys Choir a singing and travelling choral group from France and has toured the world for the past five years. The 19 member choir will offer an afternoon concert on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 2:30 PM at Mission San

Buenaventura. Open to the public, there is no admission fee; a free-will offering will be taken.

The Respect Life ministry will be selling beautiful poinsettia plants after all Masses on the weekend of Nov. 4th and Nov. 11th on the east wing at Sacred Heart Church. Each poinsettia is $10.00 or a box of six for $55.00. The proceeds will go to

the Life Centers of Ventura County. Your generous support provides free pregnancy tests, life-saving ultrasounds, a helpline, baby and maternity needs, referrals and educational materials. We are in need of an additional bi-lingual person to help with Weddings & Quinceñeras. This is a paid position and would require working on some evenings & Saturdays.
