CHAPEL NOTESGrandparents Day was a wonderful event on October 13. Thanks to all for the work and joy that was put into making the day a celebration for our school community!

Halloween is quickly approaching! The roots of the celebration come from a Celtic celebration called Samhain. It was a time when the Celts thought that the souls of the dead returned to earth. This is a pretty scary thing to celebrate, if you ask me! The Church ‘adopted’ this time of cel-ebration for Christian use by moving its observation of All Saints Day to November 1, and All Hallow’s Even (the Scottish spelling) on October 31. Halloween is a celebration tied to the Christian calendar when we remember our own mortality before we celebrate the lives of the saints on the next day.

On Wednesday, November 1, we will celebrate the lives here at All Saints of the saints. During the Eucharist service, we will read the names of students and faculty who have died, giving thanks for their presence. This is not intended to be a somber occasion, but a joyous celebration for the gifts we give each other in lives well lived. If you have any names you would like to have included on the list read, please email me at [email protected]. See you all on All Saints Day!

Peace, Chaplain Paige+

I loveAll Saints Fall Festival

October 27 at

5:30!!!!

Keep collectingbox tops for next time!

PATRIOT SPOTLIGHTIn light of the recent loss of a Texas Tech police officer, Mrs. Eslinger & the first grade teachers encouraged their class to write thank you notes to the Texas Tech police officers. The students embraced this idea in true Patriot fash-ion and got right to work! They made cards thanking the officers for “being brave and protecting us” and assembled a giant goody basket to share with the Texas Tech police force. This week we’d like to say thank you to our first grade students for showing compassion and love to our fellow neighbors. This is a job well done!

ROGER TIPTONThis week we turn our spotlight to a Patriot dad who happily avoids the limelight and sometimes the light of day! If you attended Homecoming you may have noticed the lovely American Flag flying near the south-end goal post. This flag was donated and placed by Roger Tipton! The story of how the flag found its home is a fun one to share.

Roger slipped in on Wednesday night (two days before Homecoming) to begin his “covert mission.” Did he jump the fence? Only he knows! He dug the hole, filled the bottom with gravel and sand (or whatever needs to be done to place a flag pole), poured the concrete, and then waited 24 hours to allow the concrete to cure.

Fast Forward 24 hours - Roger is now joined with his accomplice, Pasha Glubokovs-kiy. Pasha is the father of Ivan Glubokovskiy, our former Russian exchange student that lived with the Tiptons during the 2015-2016 school year. He happened to be close by (in Canada) and popped in for a visit. The Tiptons sure know how to show their guests a good time! Roger and Pasha together finished the job; they came over on Thursday night and placed the flag pole.

The picture shown here is our new flag on its first morning at first light! Thank you to Roger and Nadene Tipton for your support of our school and the beautiful flag! God Bless You and God Bless America!

STATE TENOR DRUM CHAMPION - JOSEPH BAYOUTHCongratulations Patriot Drumline! They were named as the 2017 TAPPS State 2-A Tenor Line Champions Monday morning in the TAPPS State Drumline contest in Waco. Senior Joseph Bayouth plays the tenor drum.

Other drumline members are: seniors Colten Cannon, Raymond Rider, John-Gamble Streit, and Luke Stuart; sophomores Quatro Cone and Jackson Janes; and freshmen Lukas Hinshaw, Luke Maples, Ethan Moore, Graham St. Clair, and Sebastian Whitaker. Drum-line is under the direction of Charley Cross.

HOMECOMING 2017Last week, All Saints kicked off a week of homecoming fun that culminated with a big win for our football team against Amarillo’s Holy Cross and the crowning of the 2017 Homecoming Queen and King.

Queen Candidates included Anna Arnett, Kate Borthwick, Natalie Chaudhuri, Sarah Going, Tatum Harper, Whitney Lawson, Lily McKay, Ava Moran, Ally Muzyka, Taylor Renfroe, Alexandra Shropshire, and Mallory Staggs. King Candidates included Joseph Bayouth, Colten Cannon, Sajan Dihenia, Austin Hickle, Raymond Rider, and Luke Stuart.

Friday’s festivities continued with a tailgate before the football game. The lines were long, but well worth the wait for a taste of former parent Monty Bowman’s famous brisket and pulled pork wraps. It sure was fun to see Headmaster Bruce Latta and his wife, Emily, along with their girls roll up their sleeves and work together to cover the concession stand during the busiest part of the night. Way to go, Lattas!

The Varsity Football team captured a big win over Amarillo’s Holy Cross Academy with a score of 48-0. In the midst of all of the excitement, the cheer and dance squads put on a great show and entertained the crowd with school spirit and Patriot Pride!

The highlight of the evening was the announcement of our 2017 Homecoming Queen, Lily McKay. Lily is the daughter of Chaplain Paige and Mike McKay.

Homecoming week concluded with a “007” themed high school dance. Near the end of the evening, Austin Hickle was crowned our 2017 Homecoming King. Austin is the son of Michele and Dr. Randy Hickle. Like Lily, Austin joined All Saints 14 years ago.

Homecoming week was a blast, and wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Patriots, current and past, who came to participate in the fun. Thank you, All Saints community, for your continued support — we can’t wait to see you at Homecoming 2018!*For full Bios on our Queen and King and all of our homecoming candidates go to allsaintsschool.org/alumni/homecoming/. 5

The boys team paced by 7th grader Lee Taylor finished in second place. Both Akin and Taylor won the individual titles in their respective divisions. The top five finishers for the girls were Allison Akin, Emeri Tran, Jilayne Headrick, Ellis Fox and Jayci Donaldson. The top five finishers for the boys were Lee Taylor, Jack Robinson, Joseph Paone, John David Latour and Caden Mead. The middle school cross country team consisted of the following runners:

The 8th grade volleyball team led by Becky Addington also had a good weekend finishing third in the WTCAA district tournament. The girls went 3-1 on the day wrapping up a great season with a strong winning record. Fol-lowing are the 7th & 8th grade girls who participated in middle school volleyball this season.

The middle school football team played in the third place game at All Saints and lost a close game to St. Andrews to finish in 4th place for the district season. The young Patriots, coached by Kyle Simons and Marc Rios, improved throughout the season and managed a two-game winning streak to get to the third place game. The future is bright for Patriot football! Following are the boys who played middle school football this season.

High School AthleticsLast Tuesday, Coach Kimberli Swett and the high school varsity volleyball team won their fourth consecutive un-defeated district championship. It has been quite a run for the high school volleyball program as they have been undefeated district champions in each of their first four years of competition. They are defending TAPPS 2A state champions and will begin defense of their state title at home on Halloween, Tuesday October 31 in the first round of the area playoffs. Plan to spend a part of your Halloween night cheering on the Patriots!

The girls and boys All Saints High School cross country teams will compete this coming Monday, October 30 in Waco at the TAPPS State Cross Country Meet. Good luck to Coaches Jones and Waters and these early-morning risers as they have been practicing every morning at 6:30am since August 1.

Last night the All Saints community honored seven Patriots at the fall senior night following the volleyball match against Mid-land Classical. The following seniors were honored: Tatum Harper (Cross Country and Volleyball), Lily McKay (Cross Country and Volleyball), Haley Bownds (Volleyball Manager), and our Football seniors included Joseph Bayouth, Colten Cannon, Nick Crews and Luke Stuart.

GRANDPARENTS AND SPECIAL FRIENDS DAYThank you to all the grandparents and special friends who joined us this year! It was another magical day and our students loved being able to share their school with you. The day began with the Headmasters Coffee followed by a beautiful chapel service that included shared stories of fond grandparent memories and musical presentations from our students. Picnic lunches, visits to the classrooms, and the Book Fair concluded the day. Many relatives traveled near and far to share this day with us and we are grateful.

A big thank you goes out to Buck and Fidel, our fearless facilities team! It takes a lot of extra work to prepare the school for Grandparents and Special Friends Day. Thank you for all that you do to make it happen.

Also, the grounds looked beautiful and former parent Judy Briggs spent many hours working to prepare for this event. Thank you Judy!!! The special details that Judy attends to, like the beautiful pumpkins, are noticed and appreciated.
