Chamber endorses candidates The Fenton Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is pleased to announce their endorsement of Ken Horn and David Robertson for State Senate and Joe Graves for State Repre-sentative. The election is Tuesday, Nov. 4. The Chamber’s comprehensive endorsement process is based on several factors includ-ing the candidates voting record, public comments by the candidates, responses to their questionnaire, and the candidate’s performance at their “Meet the Candi-dates” event. The categories listed in the endorse-ment policy are Business Issues, Commu-nity Issues, Creativity/Policy Expertise, Experience/Community Service and Public Speaking and Presentation. “Once again, this event proved to be informative and beneficial for those that attended,” said moderator Patrik Welty. In addition to the candidates running for State Senate and State Representative, Dave Lossing, Mayor of Linden and Pat Lockwood, Fenton Mayor Pro-tem ad-dressed the audience. The Fenton Regional Chamber of Commerce is proud to host this free event and will continue to encourage pro-business candidates at both the State and local levels of government.

SCARYContinued from Front Page “This event is so successful every year,” said Shelly Day, chamber ex-ecutive director. “Our goal has always been to provide a safe, fun trick-or-treat experience. It’s become an annual tradi-tion that everyone looks forward to.” The Chamber is expecting about 40 to 50 participating businesses that will provide candy for trick-or-treaters from 1 to 6 p.m. Some businesses may close at regular hours. Businesses often hand out coupons or something else for adults, to bring them back in, according to Day. Cost to each business for participat-ing is $40 for members and $50 for non-members.For that fee, businesses get their names on all the signage, ads and flyers that promote the event. “We sent out thou-sands of flyers through area schools in Fenton and Linden,” added Day. In addition to trick-or-treating, special Halloween fun is planned from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Family Life Center of Fenton Unit-ed Methodist Church, including bounce houses and games. “It’s a great place to go before or after trick-or-treating at area

Applicants must demonstrate quality, innovation, and effectiveness of programming in the areas of leader-ship and governance, finance, business advocacy and programming/membership development. The award is modeled after the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Accreditation process for recognizing best industry practices. The Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals is the industry association for more than 270 chambers in Michigan. These back-to-back community events will be the kick-off to the holiday season in the tri-county area. “We’re in the planning stages for this December event in Linden,” said City Manager Paul Zelenak, who is working with the Chamber to coordinate Linden’s

Jinglefest and Holiday Happenings only seven weeks awayevent on Friday evening with the Jinglef-est in Fenton on Saturday. Linden’s Holiday Happening will include Friday night carriage rides, the lighting of the Christmas tree, a visit by Santa Claus, music and caroling and holiday refreshments provided by local civic groups. In Fenton, most stores will open at 10 a.m. for holiday shopping with Jinglefest specials offered by participating retailers. Festival fun will then begin at 3 p.m. with the Jingle Jog, the traditional kick-off to Jinglefest. This 5K Walk/Run begins at the Fenton United Methodist Church Family Life Center. The first 200 participants to register will receive a Jin-

gle Jog mug, according to Race Organizer Rochelle Jones, membership director of the Fenton Regional Chamber. Soups, rolls, hot chocolate and cookies will be provided for all participants. Wear a Santa costume for the run and you’ll receive a $5 refund at registration, she added. The downtown will be decked out in holiday décor, with the added excitement of ice sculptures on display. Local non-profit groups will be of-fering hot chocolate by local Boy Scout troops, a Mom2Mom bake sale, Kiwanis Club hot dogs, and more. The Fenton United Methodist Family Life Center will also host kids’ activities from 3 to 6 p.m.

JINGLEFESTContinued from Page 5 “We’re inviting community groups to get involved, because 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the organization,” said Shelly Day, executive director of the Chamber. A tent on the lawn of the Fenton Com-munity & Cultural Center will feature kids’ activities, entertainment every 30 minutes, food vendors, etc. “Come on in and warm up with chili, hot dogs, hot chocolate and more,” said Pat Lockwood, chairman of Jinglefest. The Knights of Columbus Catholic men’s group from St. Augustine will offer free popcorn and a place to warm up with a wood-burning stove. Area D.J. Bob Steele will provide musi-cal entertainment as a backdrop to the day’s events. The Holiday Lighted Parade will step out at 6 p.m., with Santa Claus as an honored guest in the parade. Fenton High School and Lake Fenton High School marching bands will kick-off the parade. An eight-minute Fireworks Display will follow the parade behind the Fenton Com-munity Center. “Then everyone’s invited inside for free Pictures with Santa, sponsored by the North LeRoy Business District,” said Lockwood. “The Beautification Com-mission will be decorating the inside of the community center, and will provide cider and cookies.” The Fenton Village Players Youth Theater will also be inside, with story-telling and other kids’ activities. Chasse Ballroom & Latin Dance Studio is the Exclusive Main Event Sponsor for this year’s Jinglefest. Entertainment Spon-sor is Caretel Inns of Linden and Jinglefest Sponsor is HAP.

It takes 30 years to ‘Build’ your ‘Reputation’ and 5 seconds to ‘RUIN’ it! Be sure to treat your customers like they’re ‘the BOSS,’ because they ARE! ‘The BOSS’ pays your salary, your home, your children’s education and ALL your bills! Treat ‘the BOSS’ poorly and they’ll go do busi-ness with your competitor down the street! Gone FOREVER! There’s no ‘MAGIC BOX’ of money out in the back of the store. When the cash register is ‘Empty,’ we’re outta business! And while you’re working half-days (12 hours per day), be sure to treat your EMPLOYEES (‘the TEAM’) like THEY are ‘The BOSS’ too. When you give your employees Great Service, they will give it to your customers. When your TEAM is HAPPY, (How HAPPY? EXTREMELY!) your CUSTOM-ERS will be HAPPY, (How HAPPY? EXTREME-LY!) and of course, YOU will be EXTREMELY HAPPY when customers line-up at your door and Scream, ‘MORE! MORE! MORE!’ Make yourself and your business MEMO-RABLE, ESPECIALLY in this world of ‘Non-descript BIG BOXES.’ That’s the ‘REAL SECRET-SAUCE!’ Be OBESSIVELY COMMITTED to the DE-TAILS (‘OCD’). And follow the ‘ABCDEFs’ — go Above and Beyond the Call of Duty EVERYTIME and you just might find your Customers (‘the Boss’) with the FEELING..... ‘Wow! I L-O-V-E that place!’ ‘K.I.S.S.S.’ ‘em (More ‘SECRET-SAUCE’ — ask me about that later) like you LOVE ‘em! And just say, ‘Uncle!’

Thanks, Dave DurantUncle Ray’s Dairyland, 1462 N. Leroy Street
