Our day will begin with a guided tour of Salem, most widely known as the site of the Witchcraft Trials of 1692. Salem also offers both residents and visitors alike, a rich marine heritage combined with an impressive display of historic architecture and amazing stories that span almost four centuries. We’ll step back in time to 1692, as we visit the Salem Witch Museum for a dramatic history lesson using stage sets with life size figures, lighting and narration to experience the dramatic witch hunt that struck fear and terror into the hearts of the Salem townspeople and ultimately lead to the court trials and executions of many men and women! Enjoy free time for lunch on your own before attending the performance of Cry Innocent where we will experience the re-enactment of the arrest and pre-trial of Bridget Bishop, the first of the girls to be hung as a witch. Following an early dinner, our evening begins with a spooky walking tour among cemeteries, Witch Trial sites, and famous places of mysterious folklore and legend. You’ll want to take along your camera, as you never know what might pop up! The remainder of the evening is at your leisure to explore the variety of events that the Salem Haunted Happenings has to offer such as spell castings, a Monster Mash costume contest, tarot card and rune reading demonstrations and more. We’ll then depart for Tarrytown, NY and check into our hotel for a relaxing two nights. Take some time for lunch on your own and to freshen up before enjoying an eerily entertaining evening ahead! Following dinner, we will be captivated by a Master storyteller at the Old Dutch Church for a dramatic presentation of Washington Irving’s classic tale, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” featuring the Headless Horseman, Ichabod Crane, Brom Bones, and Katrina Van Tassel!Hotel: Sheraton Tarrytown Hotel, Tarrytown, NY (Breakfast, Dinner)

Monday, October 24: Legend of Sleepy Hollow & Great Jack O’Lantern BlazeAfter breakfast, we’ll meet our local guide for a spooktacularly fun filled day! Our day will start with a walking tour of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery where we will hear tales of Washington Irving, author of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” and Revolutionary War veterans, wealthy industrialists, and others. Here, we can appreciate the remarkable cemetery art, architecture, and symbols on the cemetery grounds, and step into the cemetery’s 113 year-old underground receiving vault! Then enjoy viewing many of the attractions linked to Ichabod Crane and Sleepy Hollow as we are transported to sites such as: The Van Tassel Homestead where Schoolmaster Ichabod Crane began his famous flight from the headless horseman, Patriots Park and the André Captors’ Monument, where Ichabod first encountered the headless horseman, and Philipsburg Manor, a 17th century Dutch manor where Ichabod strolled with the local girls. Later, it’s on to the Legend behind the “Legend,” for a visit to Sunnyside, Washington Irving’s fascinating home. Filled with a colorful blend of architectural styles, it showcases many fascinating objects related to Irving’s famous stories and tales. We are treated to a tour of Lyndhurst Castle which is beautifully adorned for the fall season. Here we will discover how our current fascination with macabre developed out of customs that originated in the 19th century. After this evening’s delightful dinner, you will be amazed as you experience the area’s biggest Halloween event, the wildly popular Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze! This event features over 6,000 hand-carved, illuminated pumpkins set against the mysterious backdrop of Van Cortland Manor’s 18th century buildings and riverside landscape. This elaborate walkthrough experience, perfect for the Halloween season, will truly amaze! (Breakfast, Dinner)
