October 2018 FROM THE PRESIDENT Greetings, Another outdoor flying season is almost behind us. The day after our fun fly the weather changed to less desirable outdoor flying conditions. Fall is here and that means I am back to work. Harvest has begun and I am back to trucking fertilizer or corn. Our club Fun Fly was held September 15th. It was a huge success. We had 26 registered pilots and the flight line was full of airplanes. The weather was cooperative with around 75 degrees and a modest cross wind on the runway. There were 3 or 4 aircraft incidents out of at least 200 flights throughout the day. Our club chefs served up a fantastic lunch. The raffle was a fun time with many pilots going home with a prize. The top 3 winners were: F4U Corsair- Scott Genoch, Popwing- Andrew Ochoa, and Cordless Screwdriver- Bill Roberts. I would like to thank all the participants and club members for making this event a fun event. I would like to thank all the club members who helped with the field maintenance and the upgrades that took place this summer. Thank you to Chris and Jerry for help with the website. Without your willingness to help, it wouldn't have happened. Our next meeting is October 11th at the OLV gym at 7pm. We will also have the gym open on October 25th. For those not familiar, we fly the micro planes, quads, and helicopters along with running the electric trucks. The gym is open for activities from 6- 9pm. I look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting. Tom October 11 th Meeting @ the OLV gym Meeting @ 7:00. Notes from the September 13 th Meeting The September meeting of the Fergus Falls R.C. FAA Reauthorization Actof 2018 Signed

Dear Members,

President Trump today signed the FAA Reauthorizaton Act of 2018 into law, which contains several provisions relatng to our hobby. As we previously mentoned, AMA championed some of the provisions included in the bill on

behalf of our nearly 200,000 members. Other provisions will require closer dialogue and coordinaton with the FAA inthe months and years to come.

We wish to thank all of you for thecalls and emails to members of Congress over the past couple of weeks. Congress has heard your message loud and clear. There are few voices as efectve in Washington, DC as AMA members, and you should all be proud of the work we collectvely achieved as a community.

With your help, there are no changes that members need to follow immediately. AMA members should contnue to fy in accordance with AMA'ss safety guidelines as we have for decades. Existng agreements between AMA clubs and the FAA should be followed untl further notce.

AMA'ss leadership met with the FAA'ss leadership in Washington this week, and we are encouraged by the positve tone of the dialogue. The FAA recognizes AMA'ss commitment to safety and support of natonal security and has already initated steps to draw from our insttutonal knowledge and work collaboratvely, ensuring that our hobby can contnue to thrive for generatons to come.

We have established a working group with the FAA to cooperatvely address issues relatng to our hobby, a major achievement that gives AMA, and our members, an even stronger voice in Washington. Please contnue to monitor your emails, www.modelaircraf.org/gov, Model Aviaton magazine and social

media for the latest informaton as implementaton of this law is undertaken.

For our part, the passage of the FAA reauthorizaton bill marks a new chapter in our organizaton'ss history, and one that has many positve benefts. For the frst tme ever, AMA stands to gain official recogniton as a communityabased organizaton, including having our safety programming formally coordinated and recognized. Meanwhile, as a community, we now have an even larger role to play inlending our decades of expertse to the FAA, helping to educate the broader recreatonal community and working together with the FAA to promote and enhance safety and security in aviaton.

We will provide further updates aswe embark on this new chapter of cooperaton with the FAA and greater AMA leadership in Washington. Thank youfor your passion, engagement and supportfor our beloved hobby.

Thank you,AMA Government Relatons Team
