“God’s plan to redeem the world”, is the theme for this
year’s conference. We will be challenged from God’s
Word and from the African concept of group effort re-
ferred to as “Ubuntu” to work together as men and
women, youth, professionals, non-professionals, citi-
zens of one global village, one body, one spirit, one
hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and
Father of all.
ICOM - International Conference on Missions - is in
Peoria this November 16-19, 2017. Best of all, You
do NOT have to be a missionary to attend, to be
blessed and to bless others! BCC has paid a
church/college-wide registration fee so all you must
do is register! A specific code is needed to register
online (which will be emailed to the congregation very
soon). Why should you go? Here are a few highlights:
Free programming for infants -5th grade.
SICOM - specifically focused on 6th-12th graders
will learn about & pray with missionaries, build walls
for disaster relief, package meals for the hungry, a
time to talk with & learn about many faith-based col-
lege options available.
6 main sessions that include worship, powerful testi-
monies & messages from hand-picked speakers by
2017 President Enoch Nyador.
140+ workshop topics centering around missions
and topics that come from what’s going on now in
America & around the world.
Experience an exhibit hall filled with organizations
serving all over the globe. 575 booths waiting for
you to visit, to find a specific organization, become
a prayer warrior or just learn about global missions.
Please consider attending! You won’t be disappoint-
ed. More info available in the fellowship hall.
During the month of
October, take time to
tell our staff how much
you appreciate them -
send a card, give a

Yes, it’s October. Yes, we are
thinking about Christmas. WHY?
The Kiddos will present
their Christmas program on Sunday, Decem-
ber 10 during the Sunday School hour. That
means…..it’s time to practice!
Practices will be after church Oct. 22-Dec. 3.
Lunch will be provided for the kids and kids will
be returned to Carthage by 1 p.m. where par-
ents are asked to meet them at the DQ.
All kids 4 yrs - 5th grade are encouraged to be a part of this Christmas presentation. Ques-tions? Ask Ms. Rachael.
For the month of October, CDK will be meeting after school to 5 p.m. on Thursdays at the Car-thage Baptist Church gym. This is for K-5th graders. Transportation provided from the ele-mentary school. Adults, helpers are still need-ed! If you would enjoy being a part of this minis-try to take Jesus to the community of kids, con-tact Rachael ASAP. Recent years have seen about 100 kids per meeting and they are learn-ing about Jesus!
October 2017
As a parent, I sometimes question
whether I am, exposing my children
enough to God’s word. After browsing
through an article from the Children’s
Ministry Magazine, I came across an
article that gave age-appropriate indi-
cators for biblical literacy. I thought it may be helpful to you
as parents also. Here are their recommendations which
were adapted from Deb Hetherington, resource developer
for Augsburg Fortress.
Ages 3 to 5 Children can become familiar with Bible passag-
es such as Noah’s Ark and understand the event’s very
basic meaning (Noah obeyed God). Preschoolers can start
to relate to people in the bible and put themselves into the
action.
Ages 6 to 9 Kids begin to comprehend biblical events, identi-
fy with the people, and apply a lesson or Bible point to their
lives. Later, kids begin to understand the structure of the
bible and navigate it to find passages they know or want to
explore.
Ages 10 to 12 Kids begin to know the Bible well enough to
further explore passages. They begin to interpret and deter-
mine ways to apply and compare Scripture with their person-
al situations.
After reading their recommendations, are we making the
grade or missing the mark? We live in a culture full of dis-
tractions and self-seeking pleasure. I would encourage you
to faithfully pray for a month for God to reveal what direction
you can go as a family to incorporate more of God’s word
into your routine. Next month, I will give more specific goals
for each age group to use as an age appropriate guide to
keep kids on track and challenge them in their growing faith.
Page 3
Color My World will be the
theme of the October 4th meeting of
Sisters-in-Christ. Kathryn Marlin, an
illustrator and former employee of
Good Apple, and Liz Barker of BarMac Farm
will present the program. These Keokuk gals
will show you how to lessen stress through col-
oring. Please bring your own pens and/or col-
ored pencils to use in a personal project. A dis-
play using the colored pages in various crea-
tions will be available. Diana McClintock &
Brenda Youngmeyer are co-hostesses with
Natalie Lionberger presenting a devotion.
All ladies of the church are invited to come and
discover how to brighten the area around
them. 6:30 p.m. @ BCC.

I lift my eyes unto the hills Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord The maker of heaven and earth I lift my eyes unto the hills Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord The maker of heaven and earth And I'll praise you in this storm And I will lift my hands That you are who you are No matter where I am And every tear I've cried You hold in your hand You never left my side And though my heart is torn I will praise you in this storm And though my heart is torn I will praise you in this storm [Authors Bernie Herms and Mark Hall. © 2005 Word Music, LLC, My Refuge Music, Be Essential Songs, BanaHama Tunes. If you have ever listened to K-LOVE radio then you've heard the song "I'll Praise You In This Storm" by Casting Crowns. This was one of the songs that was sung at my, Seth, sister's funeral several years ago. I grow tired of most of the songs on K-LOVE radio as I've heard most of them years on end; I don’t grow tired of this one though. As we see sickness, death, natural disasters and manmade chaos all around - never forget where hope remains. He, God, is worthy of praise in good times and in the harder times. "I'll Praise You In This Storm" Casting Crowns I was sure by now, God you would have reached down And wiped our tears away, Stepped in and saved the day. But once again, I say amen That it's still raining As the thunder rolls I barely hear your whisper through the rain I'm with you And as your mercy falls I raise my hands and praise The God who gives and takes away And I'll praise you in this storm And I will lift my hands That you are who you are No matter where I am And every tear I've cried You hold in your hand You never left my side And though my heart is torn I will praise you in this storm I remember when I stumbled in the wind You heard my cry to you raised me up again My strength is almost gone how can I carry on If I can't find you As the thunder rolls I barely hear you whisper through the rain I'm with you And as your mercy falls I raise my hands and praise The God who gives and takes away

The Hutchins family wants to thank the Burnside
Christian Church family for all your prayers and acts
of kindness shown to us over the years, especially
during the last seven months of Hollie’s life. Your
prayers were essential to our well being. The many
cards with biblical verses she received brightened
her days; she read each one several times. Your
helping hands at the hospital and at our home
providing meals and other care were a blessing.
Your sincere friendship and emotional support got
us through these last troubling times. So we can’t
thank you enough.
I want to express my thanks for all your prayers per-
taining to my eye surgery and recovery. I deeply
appreciate your support during a trying time.
Thank you all, Gary Stiller

Internships are available - [1] a semester-long ex-perience that allows you to be a part of a new church for 5 months. [2] one that can last for 1-2 years.
How can you be involved? Financially of course. And join in personal partnership with a church planter and his family by “adopting” them for the purpose of prayer, encouragement, and the meet-ing of specific needs. Most have moved miles from family, friends, and the familiar to live the vision in New England. This support of others who willingly commit to them personally can protect from discouragement, isolation and weariness. Important yet practical ways to express this part-nership: pray regularly; read communications from the church planter to stay current with their ministry & personal situations; provide housing &/or transportation during travels; remember them during holidays, birthdays & anniversaries; join them on Facebook; tell others about this ministry; plan a visit to see them & their world; organize a group to assist with key projects.
To expand on this information please go to their website www.rhmnewengland.org
Dear Church Family,
Thank you all for your support, financially and
prayerfully, as I have embarked on a new jour-
ney. My church family will always hold a special
place in my heart, and I know that you all will
continue to be supportive while I am away.

Restoration House Ministries Inc. plant churches in New England (northeast USA). Why? The U.S. is currently the third largest unchurched nation in the world. Sociological trends indicate: [1] declining percentages of Americans who call themselves Christians [2] declining memberships within tradi-tional denominations [3] increasing percentages within religious minorities such as Muslim, Wicca, and paganism [4] increasing numbers of Americans who describe themselves as atheist, agnostic, or having “no” religion. One third of those who leave organized religion continue to actively seek a faith that better reflects their beliefs and needs, which church planting provides. New churches tend to be evangelistically effective. Church planting is often the most cost effective form of evangelism.
Since 1999 Restoration House Ministries has been privileged to assist in the birth of 16 new churches. The New England region includes three of the four most densely populated states in the US: Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. If New England were one state, its population would rank 5th in the nation behind Florida.
Southern New England forms an integral part of the Boston-Washington megalopolis, a conglomeration of urban centers that spans from Boston, MA to Washington DC. The Northeast has surpassed the Pacific Northwest as the least religious region of the US according the American Religious Identifi-cation Survey 2008. The ration of independent Christian churches in New England is 1 per
876,390 people as compared to 1 per 50,000 in other areas of the US. Over 260 colleges and uni-versities including Ivy League institutions such as Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard, and Yale exert global influence in the educational, financial, and political arenas. Ethnic diversity and international student populations provide opportunities for global impact.
Danny Clymer is the Executive Director in Man-chester, NH. Originally from Illinois, he holds de-grees from Lincoln Christian College & Seminary, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in MA, Uni-versity of Aberdeen, Scotland with additional clas-ses at other universities. In July of 1996 Dan moved his family to Manchester, NH. Mike Shryock joined staff in 1999 as Director of New Church Ad-ministration. Bob & Carol Miller began serving on staff in January 2009 as Directors of Pastoral Care. Ed and Sheri Plumier moved in 2012 to minister through RHM as the Director of Church Mobiliza-tion.
A week in the summer is identified as “Disciple Days”. This week 12 of the top young leaders from God’s church across America come to learn about church planting, church leadership and world views that may help them anticipate how God can use them in church plants once they have graduated from college or determined the area of service where God is leading them. Experienced leaders teach and model what God is currently doing in church planting and church health so as to make this experience both practical and educational.
