MIKE’S MUSINGS BY: MIKE WILSON, DIRECTOR

Over the past month we have been quite busy at SCOPE

boxing up all of the Warren Center material and files in order

to move into the Warren YWCA building. I want to offer a

personal thank you to our SCOPE staff and volunteers for

their efforts to make this move as smooth as possible.  A

tough task when you move 17 offices worth of furniture,

computers, dozens of tables and hundreds of chairs four

blocks to our new site.

The SCOPE Warren Center is now located at the Warren YWCA at 375 N. Park

Ave. Warren, Ohio 44481.  This was the original location of SCOPE some 55 years

ago, so we are going back home to where it all started.

This all happened when the city was able to provide properties to the Port

Authority who could sell up to seven parcels including our SCOPE building. Our

property sold fast to the Downtown Development Group who also purchased the

YWCA building and is being very generous to support and house SCOPE for the

duration of our lease we had with the city.

The Board of the YWCA along with their Director Kenya Roberts‐Howard has

been great to work with as they downsize their operation and welcome us to

make their building into a multigenerational style center. SCOPE will acquire al‐

most 9,000 square feet of space along with some additional shared space with the

YWCA including a very large community room, gymnasium, computer lab and ac‐

cessible restrooms.

SCOPE will still be able to host various programs such as the Elderly Affairs

nutritional $2 lunch, dance, and fitness classes including adding a new

SilverSneakers FLEX program, socialization activities such as BINGO, mahjongg,

bridge, Bible study, book clubs, and cards will be offered. Plus we will continue to

provide art classes, sewing classes, quilting classes, and computer classes. The

Model Railroad club comes with us and will move its tracks and displays into a

large room in the basement. Yes we have an elevator to assist our members with

entering the three floors we will use for SCOPE activities.

We will even be able to develop some new programs and activities during the

day and into the evenings and weekends. We can also look forward to partnering

with the YWCA on some of their programs for youth and adults.

It is hard to explain everything about our new location, so come on out and

visit where SCOPE began at the Warren YWCA building at 375 N. Park Ave. SCOPE

is going back home !!

SCOPE IS GOING BACK HOME

Antique Show and Tell How many years does it take to make it an "Antique"? Google said 100 years.

There were many items at the Antique Show and Tell day at the Champion

SCOPE. We had a baby book from our member that just

turned 94 years young. That member was Marilyn Wag‐

ner. Happy belated Birthday to you. We had a baby crib

brought in by a non‐member. So many great items from

dishes to walking cane, furniture and pictures. We plan on

doing it again next year so if you missed this one, please

plan on attending the next one.

Calling all volunteers! We need volunteers. Did you know that volunteering can be extremely rewarding

for you? What you will get out of volunteering is more than words can say. You will grow bonds like no other. You will gain so many grandmas and grandpas and special friends that you will not want to go home. And you really can make a difference in the lives you touch and relationships you make.

We are looking for our volunteers to answer phones and

other office duties, help with a craft project, assist with bingo, serve food, attend a seminar to pass out flyers, possible light cleaning. Decorating for the season, decoration bulletin boards.

Due to life circumstance, volunteering might not be for

you, bet I’ll bet you know someone that needs to get out of the house. Someone that needs to do something while others are working. That person can be of any age, we need to interact with all ages to learn something new.

Won't you join us? You may contact any center we all need you. Sincerely, From all your center managers.
