2014 Diversity Benchmarking Report

The City Bar is pleased to release its 2014 Diversity Benchmarking Report, which notes gainsand losses for signatory firms. The report found that, despite growing support, New York Citylaw firms continue to experience high rates of attrition among minority and women attorneys.

To date, 118 New York City firms have signed the City Bar’s Statement of Diversity Principles,committing to working toward several goals focused on enhancing the diversity of the legalprofession from the pipeline to firm leadership. The data collected from signatory firms enablesthe legal community to track its progress in upholding the benchmarks set forth in theStatement of Principles, and also helps the City Bar identify key issues to address in theirprograms and reports.

The City Bar is currently seeking volunteer mentors for the CLICKS pipeline program. CLEOLegally Inspired College Kohorts of Students (CLICKS) is a pipeline partnership with theCouncil on Legal Education Opportunity which seeks to empower under­served high schoolstudents with an interest in sports, health, and entertainment through structured mentorship,pre­employment workshops, and co­curricular programming.

students, particularly men of color. To do so, the program will connect participants with lawyersand other professionals in the sports, health, and entertainment fields through a variety ofdifferent forums, including live Q&A sessions, tours of facilities and career building programs.

Participants will be matched with a mentor, and organized into three groups ­­ Sports, Health,and Entertainment ­­ and meet to read about, explore, debate, and present on legal careeropportunities in those fields. Experienced representatives from each field will facilitateworkshops and respond to students inquiries about their careers. All students will be requiredto complete a series of pre­professional workshops which include goal setting, resume writing,and interview skills. Additionally, students will attend monthly field trips tosports/entertainment venues, cultural institutions, and local universities to enhance their co­curricular understanding of diverse career opportunities in the legal profession.

In 2016 the Selection Committee will select three (3) Don H. Liu Scholars who have successfullycompleted one semester of law school and possess the qualities to succeed at a top law firm or aFortune 500 corporation. Each scholar will receive a scholarship in the amount of $15,000. The program will assist each Scholar’s development as a future private­sector leader of the legalprofession.
