From the Desk of Eric……
Refuges are flooding Europe trying to escape the war in the Middle East. Russia is stirring the hornets’ nest in Syria and the Ukraine. Iran is about to obtain a nuclear weapon. ISIS is on the rise, and the world seems to be at war. Unless we have family in the military, we often read stories of these wars with concern, but at the same time, they are distant. We may have strong opinions about how to handle these conflicts, but how we react to them is far different than if we were personally in battle. I believe the same may be said for daily living. How would you approach each morning differently if you looked at each day as a battle with the evil one? As Christian’s, we read about spiritual battles. We understand that there are good and evil angels that are at battle all around us. Yet, these wars seem distant. While we have concern and strong opinions on how to approach these battles, our reaction to them is far different than we would react if we believed we were in the middle of the battle. But we are. Paul reminds the church in Ephesus… “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” Ephesians 6:10-12 Life is a battlefield and the fight is over your eternity. We often lack power in life both as individuals and as a church because we fail to daily prepare for the day ahead. The evil one and his minions are at war over your eternity. Are you prepared and living each day for the battle ahead? Over the month of October, we will be walking through Ephesians 6 and exploring the topic “This is War!” Our goal is to explore and learn how to live each day empowered and ready for the battle just ahead. I pray you will join us on this journey.
MISSION OUTREACHMISSION OUTREACHMISSION OUTREACHMISSION OUTREACH Our Mission statement: “It is the mission of the PVCC Missions Out-reach to show our love for God and others by using our time, talents, energy and financial resources in support of our global, national and
community missions.”
BARTON, MISSIONARY DAY OCTOBER 4 at 9:30 a.m. – Potluck lunch after worship, Meat provided/ some African menu foods.
All Sunday Bible Classes are also ask to meet in the Worship Center to hear Michael Barton share of their mission of translating the Bible for Bible less people. Can you image NOT having a Bible to read when you have heard there is a God? Just recently for the FIRST TIME in history, God’s message of salvation was made available in special languages printed because of the translations work that was accomplished by the Barton’s and the team they have formulated. National people in their community communicate the vision and mission to translate with good progress and clearness between translators and consultants. Both Michael and Megan are degree graduates in linguistics and will communicate to YOU their years of living and labor in Tanzania East Africa.

Pray Pray Pray I was just reflecting on our last sermon series as I was preparing to write this month’s newsletter. What a blessing! Many of you have been following a long in our “Love to Pray” devotional. I hope you have been blessed also. I have to be the first to admit that pray sometimes comes hard for me. I know it works because I have seen the power of it in so many situations and people’s lives. Yet it still comes hard. If I was to list all the times I have seen it work there would not be enough pages to put it all on. I have been to prayer meetings when it felt like God was right next to me . There are other times He seems so far away and doesn’t hear my prayers. There are many scriptures (Old Testament and New) dealing with prayer and teaching us how to pray. We can use daily devotionals, prayer groups, all the tools set at our feet yet it still comes hard for me. I was sharing my prayer struggles once with a close friend. He laughed! It was the laugh you hear when someone else has shared the same struggles. He laughed because he thought he was the only one that felt that way. He told me what he found was just keeping it simple made praying much easier. He also challenged to picture myself setting in a boat in the middle of a lake. The boat was tied to a long rope anchored to an island. The vision he wanted me to see was God being the island and you the boat. Now imagine trying to pull the island to the boat. It is impossible. But I can pull the boat to the island. It suddenly made sense to me. My prayers shouldn’t be of trying to pull God to me but of me drawing closer to God. If you’re prayer life needs refocused let us help. Have one of the Ministers or elders show you the tools you can use to pull your boat to the island. Serving Him, Jeff

Student 411: Welcome to October, the first month of real fall. Sure Fall starts in September, but let’s be honest, October is when all the best fall things happen: Leaves change colors. It starts being cool enough to eat “cold weather” food which is the best food Hand soap and candles smell better with “fall” scents It becomes socially acceptable for me to like candles Football finds itself in full swing Fall Festivals Apple Cider But NOT Pumpkins….I mean seriously. What is the point of a pumpkin? This month the student ministry will be doing some very fall-like things. One, we will be having a 5th quarter for our High School students. Sorry Middle Schoolers…There has to be something to look forward to in life. It will be after the football game on October 9th. Stay tuned for more information.
