Welcome to Leigh PlaceWe would like to give a warm welcome to our new residents that have joined us at Leigh Place. On behalf of all staff we all greet you in good grace. We also hope that you are content and comfortable living at Leigh Place.
In September we had a number of celebrations from Father’s Day to German culture with Oktoberfest to Tongan culture with Tongan dancers to bird crazy fun with Kris’ Feathered Friends!
In October we have a jam packed month ahead! Kick starting with Oktoberfest Happy Hour – bring your new steins gentlemen! We will be hosting a special Halloween BBQ at the end of the month. We’ll also have the end of footy tipping and its subsequent celebrations as well as Sally and Greg visiting for a history and reminiscing morning tea!
Please refer to your activity calendar for times of all the wonderful activities we have planned!

Resident’s Fridges at Leigh PlaceAll residents should be aware that it is important for any old or stale food to be cleaned out of your fridge. Leigh Place is not responsible for any food that is stored in your fridge past it’s use by date if it is consumed by you.
If when cleaning staff are doing routine fridge cleans and they find old, stale or mouldy products in the fridge they will inform you when they throw it out. Mouldy and old food can become a health risk for you and place you at risk of serious illness.
We are more than happy to support you in the monitoring and cleaning of your fridge, please inform care staff or cleaning staff and they will be more than happy to assist you.

Kris’ Feathered Friends
We had Kris come with her bright and colourful birds! She put on a wonderful show with a variety of silkie chickens, pigeons, lorikeets and a fluffy rabbit! The chicken was so comfortable and safe in Beryl’s lap she even laid an egg!

Resident’s Corner
This week we have Norma Hunter sharing her beautiful garden with us all. She will be sharing one of her many orchids with us. Norma has owned this particular cream orchid for 5 1/2 years and this is the first time it has flowered.
“I bought this orchid when I first moved into Leigh Place from a nursery. It cost me $47! It was only very small when I bought it and it was still on that piece of wood.
I have two orchids (one cream and one purple) which are a form of a rock orchid but they are different species. I only give them seasol as fertiliser and it very rarely gets watered. Betty’s daughter and Jake waters it for me.
The cream orchid has a very faint perfume and smells a bit like vanilla. The perfume of my upside down orchid I had was beautiful and you could smell them from inside my room.
The flower that has got the most perfume is the sweet pea. I used to grow them at home and they were so tall we had to get a ladder and cut them down.”
Norma is known at Leigh Place for her beautiful garden which she takes great pride in. Thank you Norma for sharing your beautiful garden with us all! 55

Father’s Day Morning Tea
We honoured all men this Father’s Day - uncles, care givers, friends and of course fathers. Everyone may have played a significant role in someone’s life as a father figure and we celebrated this with a morning tea and a presentation of gifts in the afternoon. We hope you enjoy your personalised stein and we would like to take the time to thank you for the never ending task of being a loving father/significant fatherly figure.
We also said a sad farewell to Michael our Hospitality Manager. We thanked Michael for his time at Leigh Place and for all his hard work.

My name is Vinh and I am volunteering at Leigh Place for my placement for TAFE.
I am 18 years old and the eldest child of three in my family. My hobbies include watching anime (Japanese style of cartoon) and playing video games. I also recently went to Vietnam to teach youth leadership skills.
I came to Leigh Place with very little expectation but was genuinely surprised at the professionalism of the staff and beautiful living environment.
Although I have mainly been working in house five, I have been in contact with many interesting and unique residents of Leigh Place through the different activities and programs that Leigh Place offers. I have also become good friends some of the residents too.
Even if I am inexperienced and young, I believe being exposed to this great facility has made me a better community service worker and better person.
Volunteer ProfileThis month we will be seeing some new faces around Leigh Place. We would like to introduce to you one of our new volunteers!
Leigh Place would like to formally introduce and welcome VINH to Leigh Place!!
