Merit Scholarship

Semifinalists Announced

Greeting Parents, Students, Teachers, Staff, and all other

members of the Dulaney community.

Many of you know about our organization, Friends of

Dulaney. Friends of Dulaney is a very loosely organized group that was formed in December to advocate for a re-

placement or full renovation of our school building.

The 1964 school building is inadequate in many ways to

meet the needs of our students and the curriculum. In addition to the undrinkable, often-brown water and the

absence of air conditioning in most of the building, there are school wide problems with climate control (rooms

much too hot or cold), security problems (e.g. many first-floor windows routinely left open due to heat), safety (e.g.

steam pipes that burst and scalding water into class-

rooms), and failure of our aging facilities to even perform as they were originally designed – such as the gym divider

that has not worked in years – much less to meet the needs of modern educational programs like Project Lead

The Way.

If you still have any doubt about the need to replace or

renovate our aged and outdated building, please join us on a tour of the building so that you can see the situation for

yourself. We hope to offer at least one tour in the next

month; if you would like to be notified when we schedule it, please email Sue Battle-McDonald

at [email protected].

Meanwhile, we very much need your help. Our small group of active participants, backed by many of you on

Facebook, has made significant progress, but we need

more people on the team at this point. Our next meeting is October 3 at 10am at a member's home on St. Francis

Road in Towson. Email Sue for details, and please join us if you can!

After that, the next opportunity to support Friends of Dulaney is to attend the October 6 Board of Education

meeting. It's at 7pm in Towson, and speakers are always needed, though non-speaking attendees also help our

cause. If you're willing to consider speaking, we can draft

comments that you can simply read at the meeting; get in touch with Sue if you can help then, or can attend future

Board meetings:

October 20th at 6:30 p.m.

November 3rd at 7:00 p.m.

If you can't make those meetings, or for more information,

please email Sue or watch our Facebook page to learn how

you can help. Together, we'll get there, but we need you on board!
