Fellow Members, We are half way through the Elk year, and the lodge has been ex-

tremely busy since the start, which makes the time just cruise right on by. Sep-tember was certainly no exception. For the community, the Lodge handed over a $500.00 check to Peggy Gray for the Panhandle Butterfly House approved by the lodge. $250.00 was given to the Lodges’ Major Project; the “Food for the Hungry” Program chaired by our own Lecturing Knight, Lyle Cater and his wife Sarah.

Congratulations go out to Linda Griner, our ENF Chairperson for hard charging the Grand Lodge per capita (member) goal of $4.60. Thanks to her, the Lodge exceeded the goal, and makes the lodge eligible to receive the $2000.00 Gratitude Grant; which is used to support the Billory Baptist Church’s “Food for the Hungry” program.

This month has been really busy with activities around the Lodge. We just had our annual Oktoberfest. And those of you who missed it, you truly missed out; it was another great success. Special Thanks to Bill Adair and Rick Rheaume for chairing this fun filled event. Bill also donated a print of the Elk painting displayed at the entrance of the Lodge was raffled off the night of Ok-toberfest to a very lucky winner. I and all our Oktoberfest committee wants to send out a great big thanks and great appreciation goes out to Jim Fix for sup-plying the beer. Thanks Jim, and great Job! And a great thanks to all those who helped put this together; supplying, and cooking the food. It was definitely a team effort, and look forward to another successful event next year. Dart Night has been huge fun since it started back up early September. The PER Shrimp boil was awesome and a great job by Allen, Bill, Rick, and Toby for putting on a great event. Over 60 members and guests were served the best boiled shrimp in town; with Jimmy Dale Peacock supplying the entertainment.

The annual District Deputy Visitation was a great time had by District and State Officers, Members, and Guests. Our District Deputy and NW District Vice President were both very pleased with the inspection of the Lodge, and Dinner. I thank each and every Officer, Committee Chairperson, and Dedicated Member for doing such an outstanding Job. Your dedication has truly been unmatched. I salute all of you.

I hope you all are taking the time to read over the Bulletin and seeing what wonderful things your lodge has been doing. Our community is definitely seeing the Elks’ great work around town, from the Food Shelf to the Butterfly house. We are truly making our mark this year. We are also reaching out to our local Veterans and Active Duty Military with many plans ahead; with our Veterans Services Chairperson Kris Kane leading the Charge. Our new Hoop Shoot Chairman, Stacy Annese has taken the reins and recruiting kids for the Local Hoop Shoot Contest. You will be notified of the time and date of the contest. Hans Offenborn and Joanne Connor are leading the Americanism Es-say Contest. This year’s theme is “What does Veterans Day Mean to you”.

Lastly, I would like you all to know, though the end of the Elk year is still six months away, there is only 4 months left for nominations and elections of officers. Now would be a good time for New and Veteran Members alike to start thinking about taking an Officer Chair; handing over the operation of the lodge to another generation of Officers. Remember, if there are no Officers, there is no Lodge to continue to do great things for our Community, Children, and Veterans. We need you to help keep it going.

Elk Membership

Fellow Elks, we are about 6 months into our Elk year and we have added

11 new members as of September. Our current membership stands at

203. But, we also need new members because some of our members will

lapse every year due to illness, death, moving, or other circumstances.

Our membership goal this year is 28 new members to keep our lodge vi-

able and growing. Any Elk can sponsor a new member. Invite your

friends, relatives, and acquaintances to join the Elks and become a mem-

ber of the Holley-Navarre Elks Lodge. If you know of a former member

who has lapsed in previous years, urge them to reinstate their member-

ship—once an Elk, always an Elk, so it is very easy to reinstate. Call me

or any Lodge officer if you have questions about reinstatement or recruit-

ing new members or if a prospective member needs assistance in submit-

ting the application form.

We currently have 27 delinquent members who have not yet paid their

dues for this year. We hope you will continue as an Elk, participate in

lodge fraternal activities and help support our efforts for community

charities, needy children, veterans, and other worthy projects. If you

have forgotten, just remit your dues—there is no late penalty! For your

convenience, we can also accept dues with a credit card at the Club. If

you have reservations about continuing your Elk membership, I urge you

to contact me, the Exalted Ruler or any other Elk to help resolve any mis-

understanding or solve any problems you may have encountered in your

Elk membership.

On 14 September the Holley/Navarre PERs had a shrimp boil with live country music from Peacock and

college football games on TV.

There was a great turnout of people. We sold over sixty dinners and raised over $600.

The food was delicious, the entertainment was great and my college football team won, go NOLES.

The bar also had a great day with lots of customers.

We could not have asked for a better day.

I would like to thank all the PERs (Allen VanDyk, Bill White, Toby Griner and even Rick Mase) that

put this on and their spouses (Mary and Linda) that helped. I would also thank the ER (Tom Stevens)

and his wife (Robin) for their help. I think we may have found a new celebrity bartender, Mary Van-

Dyk. She sort of helped Lynn Glossop with the bar.

Tuesday, October 1st @ 6:00pm: Activities Meeting – Come join in on the fun with Robin Stevens, our Ac-

tivities Chairperson and committee members, planning future Lodge Events.

Wednesday October 9th @ 6:00pm: Southern Night – Come on out y’all, and bring your best dish represent-ing’ the South. This will be a great time to showcase “What’cha got cookin.” Cost is $7.00 per person.

Friday and Saturday October 11th and 12th: State President’s Visit – Florida State Elks Association Presi-dent Brian T. Burns and his Wife Mary Kay along with their Delegation will be visiting our Great Northwest

District. Crestview Lodge # 2624 will be hosting their visit. Several Activities are in store. There is a sign-up sheet at the Lodge if you plan on attending his visitation. Sign up prior to October 5th for a good head count.

October 16th @ 6:00pm: Chili Cook-off – It’s that time of year again to show off your best Chili at the

Lodge’s annual Chili Cook-off. This is always a blast taste testing and voting for your favorite Chili. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. Cost is $5.00 to enter. If not entering, the Cost is $5.00 to taste test and eat

all the Chili you can endure. See you there!

Thursday, October 30th @ 6:00pm: Taco Night – $1.00 tacos and $3.00 taco salads will be served along with all the fixins.

Every Thursday Night: Our Thursday Night Inter Lodge Co-ed Dart League is back. Come out and show off your aiming skills, and have a great time to boot. The Dart League is open to all Members and Guests.

Every Friday Night: Bingo starts at 6:00pm, with a maximum payout of $250.00 and a winner take all game. Burgers and Hotdogs will be served as well. Cooks are always needed, so break out your tongs and apron.

You can sign up to cook as you walk in the lounge on the wall to the right.

Remember, Every Wednesday at 7pm is Queen of Hearts Night! Come on out and try and find that evasive Queen and win the Jackpot. Lots of Fun!

I would like to thank everyone who helped with all of the activities we had in the month of September.

We had a very successful DD Visitation. I would like to especially thank Ray, Amy, Jody, Mary, Kathy,

Linda, and Bill for your outstanding support. Our Annual Oktoberfest Event was a huge success thanks

to Bill Adair and Rick Rheaume, and all of those who worked so hard to make it happen. A special

thanks also goes out to Jim Fix for his support as well. Also, thanks to those of you participating in the

planning of events. I couldn’t do it without you!

October is ENF Month

Our Lodge builds stronger communities using Elks National Foundation programs all year. Let’s take

time during ENF Month this October to celebrate those successes! Lodges across the country will honor

the good works Elks accomplish through ENF programs and will raise support through ENF fundrais-

ers. What can our Lodge do to celebrate this October and build even stronger communities throughout

the year?

The mission of the Elks National Foundation is to help Elks build stronger communities. The ENF ful-

fills this pledge by investing in communities where Elks live and work. We provide tomorrow's leaders,

our youth, with lifelong skills; honor the Elks pledge to never forget our veterans; help the state Elks

associations accomplish their charitable objectives and fund projects that improve the quality of life in

local Elks communities.

Like all Elks, the Foundation values the belief that charity is the greatest of all virtues and that by shar-

ing and giving we have the power to replace sorrow and despair with hope and confidence. Donations to

the Foundation help us fund programs that match our cornerstone values of knowledge, integrity and

community.

I would like to thank everyone that came out for our Elks National Foundation dinner. The dinner was

a great success because we made $320.00. Congratulations to Robert Harlow, the winner of the ENF

basket of cheer. We made over $300.00 from the tickets we sold for the basket of cheer. All monies are

being donated to ENF. If you purchased a meal, the money will be donated in your name to ENF.

Elk or Treat!

When Elks are trick-or-treating during ENF month this October, they will come home with the best treat of all—stronger communities. Throughout October, Lodges celebrate their sweet success in using Elks National Founda-

tion programs to serve others. Here’s a few ways Elks promote ENF programs during ENF month.

· Lodges hold ENF fundraisers to help meet the GER’s per-member-giving goal to be eligible for a Com-

munity Investments Program Gratitude Grant. The month ends with the announcement of Lodges who will serve their communities with 2014 Impact Grants of up to $10,000.

· Elks engage with ENF scholarship recipients by inviting local Elks scholars to the Lodge to speak and

connect with members. · Local Hoop Shoot competitions continue, encouraging youth to be active and get involved in their com-

munities.

· As a part of the Drug Awareness Program, Lodges observe Red Ribbon Week by encouraging a drug-free lifestyle.

· Elks gear up to celebrate our nation’s heroes during Veterans’ month this November.

#2787, presents a check for the Panhandle Butterfly House

(PBH) to PBH Treasurer Peggy Gray. "The Elks mission is

to be involved with and support our local community. As an

education and entertainment venue for the youth of our area,

tourists, and local adults, its award winning ‘Kiderpillar’

classes, beautiful butterfly gardens, and vivarium with living

examples of local butterflies, the butterfly house is in total

harmony with that mission. We are proud to support such an

outstanding local attraction!" Tom explained.

Peggy commented "The PBH is an all volunteer 501(c)3

charitable organization. It is through the support of folks in

our community like the Holley-Navarre Elks Lodge and our

visitors that we can offer our various programs and sustain

our gardens and butterfly vivarium."

Army of Hope Picnic

Thanks to everyone who helped with this year’s Florida Northwest District Army of Hope picnic. Our

lodge had a good turnout for volunteer workers and overall attendance – 14 Lodge #2787 Elks if I

counted correctly. Despite threatening storms early on, good weather prevailed and a fun time was had

by all. Event proceeds for the Elks Army of Hope Fund, which supports our Iraq and Afghanistan war

veterans, totaled $3,705.39. I appreciate your commitment to serving our nation’s veterans and look

forward to working future Veterans Services Committee projects.

The House is open from mid April through the Saturday before Labor Day each year and then again in

October for Monarch Madness in celebration of the Monarch butterfly’s long annual journey. "This

year we are pleased to have the Holley-Navarre Elks Lodge join us at Monarch Madness with a food

concession selling cold drinks, water, hotdogs, hamburgers, trimmings and snacks in support of their

other local area charities.” Peggy stated.

Monarch Madness will be open to the public on October 4th & 5th from 10 AM to 3PM on the butterfly

house grounds and in their parking lot at Navarre Park at the foot of the Navarre Beach Bridge. The

Panhandle Butterfly House is a venue of Santa Rosa County's Beaches to Woodlands Tour. Everyone is

invited to attend. Admission to Monarch Madness is always free but donations in support of the PBH

are encouraged and greatly appreciated.
