Impressionist painter Lori Eubanks will be hostingan Art Show & Benet on Wednesday, November28th, 2012 from 5:30-9:00 p.m. at the Wood
Center located in the rear entrance to the CapitolTheater. The show will feature a variety of Eubankspaintings available for sale. A portion of theproceeds, the night of the sale, will be donated tothe Chambersburg Memorial YMCAs new FamilyProgram Center. Lori Eubanks was inspired by the impressionistsbut remained dedicated to her unique form. She
combines serene compositions with simply stated
themes, many with owers as a recurring favoritebackdrop. The artist travels extensively throughoutthe USA and Europe seeking new inspiration. Shehas painted in both Monets gardens and the Frenchcountryside. Her work has been exhibited in a showof American Artists at the Galerie Les Agapanthesin Giverny, France, along with countless shows
throughout the United States.

On September 28th, 2012, the Chambersburg MemorialYMCA celebrated yet another landmark occasion.Executive Director David Matthews Jr. was celebrated forhaving faithfully and passionately served the communityof Chambersburg, PA, for 40 years.
Matthews started with the Chambersburg YMCA as theYMCAs Physical Director in September of 1972. Overthe course of his forty year career he also served asthe YMCAs Program Director and Associate ExecutiveDirector, before becoming the Executive Director of theChambersburg YMCA in 1980.
As a result of four successful community capital fund-raising campaigns and numerouscommunity volunteers help, the YMCA has experienced tremendous growth over these fortyyears with the addition of a second swimming pool, two gymnasiums, three racquetball courts,adult locker rooms and a 7,000 square foot tness facility. Most recently, the YMCA completedthe renovation of the Coldbrook Elementary School into the William K Nitterhouse Family YMCAProgram Center with four child development class rooms, two aerobic studios, a wellness center,
an outdoor pavilion, playground equipment and organic gardens.5

Chargers West Shore

The Chambersburg Chargers com-peted in their rst swim meetof the season at the West ShoreYMCA Kickoff Classic at Cumber-land Valley High School. EightChargers attended the meet. Theyset a combined total of 26 per-sonal best times and shattered
seven Charger team records andve meet records.
Abby Stauffer set the rst teamrecord for the Chargers, loweringher personal best in the 400 IMby 6 seconds, breaking a 28 year
old Charger record in the process.Her time won her rst place andthe WSY Kickoff Classic MeetRecord. Stauffer nished fourthin the girls 100 freestyle andthird in the 200 IM, just behindPA High School State Champions
Meghan Raab and Emily Cameron.
Marget Shelly won the 11-12girls 400 IM shortly after, drop-ping 24 seconds from her lifetimebest. Shellys time was also a
Charger Record and a meet re-cord. Shelly followed her perfor-mance by winning the 11-12 200IM, 100 y and 100 free, break-ing three more meet and team
records in the process.
The most notable performance,along with Stauffers open IMrecord, came in the 11-12 girls500 freestyle. Shelly loweredher Charger record by 13 sec-onds, set a meet record, and setan open Charger girls team re-cord. As a 12 year old, Shelly isnow the fastest 500 swimmer inCharger history, lowering KristenMontellos previous mark by al-most 3 seconds.
Other notably impressive swim-mers are Danielle Pont, Chandler
Desotelle, Annabelle McCullough,
Elena Fierer, and Karlee and KyleeMetz. Aside from setting severalpersonal records each, most ofthem ranked in the top three oftheir age brackets in at least one
event.
The Chargers are looking forwardto a successful season. Theirrst meet in which the entireteam will be participating is onOctober 24. The team will host
its annual Pentathlon on Octo-ber 27. The Chargers are fastapproaching 100 swimmers onthe team and are still acceptingswimmers to ll their roster.

Please congratulate Greg Leevy in his supervisory promotion at the front desk. He
has been a faithful employee of the Chambersburg Memorial YMCA for eight years aslead desk attendant. Gregs title is now Front Desk Supervisor. His daughter Adalineworks part-time in the babysitting room throughout the week.
The Chambersburg Y would like to proudly welcome our newest full-time staff mem-ber, Terry Ellis. Terry is a decorated retired Navy man with 22 years of service to ourcountry. He is the recipient of two Iraq Freedom Medals, three Navy & Marine CorpsAchievement Medals, and ve Good Conduct Medals - just to mention a few distin-guished accomplishments as a member of the United States Navy.
Terrys ofcial title is Assistant Building and Grounds Superintendant, working closely
with Facility Manager Dave Manges. Terry comes to the YMCA with a variety of experi-ence in HVAC, electrical, plumbing and associated maintenance elds.
Nikki Velleman has been promoted to Youth Director at the Chambersburg YMCA. Shewill be in charge of the Sams and Achievers Programs, three school-age child care sites,and Sams Summer Camp. Miss Velleman has been working for our YMCA for two years ina variety of positions; most recently, she was made the head teacher in a class of three
to ve year-olds at the ARK Child Development Center since it opened this past June.Nikki graduated from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Science in Education.

SPRINT TRIATHLONThe 6th annual Chambersburg SprintTriathlon was held on Saturday, Sep-tember 29th with 52 local men andwomen. Well before sunrise, volunteers
were busy setting up the transitionarea, prepping informational race pack-ets. The race began at 8:00 a.m. andended just before noon. For many rac-ers, this was their rst triathlon.
At 8:00 on the dot, Head Timers Dave
Matthews and Adam Leeper began therace with a shrill whistle blast. Overthe next three-and-a-half hours, ath-letes ages 23 to 58 competed with in-tensity under the bright blue sky. Rac-ers swam 500 yards, biked 16 miles ofhilly country roads and ran over three
miles along McKinley Street and Stan-ley Avenue.
The overall male winner for this yearsevent was Y member Devin Rosen-crance with a time of 1:21:26. Secondplace male went to Victor Cretella in atime of 1:21:48. The rst place Mas-ters male was Gerry Perez with a time
of 1:23:23. The second place Mastersmale was Y member Dave Brosend in atime of 1:25:42.
For the women, this years overall win-
ner was Jenna Ekdahl with a winningtime of 1:31:05. Second place femaleoverall went to Debbie Connor with atime of 1:31:42. The female Masterswinner was Michelle Lachance with atime of 1:36:42. Desiree Oliveri-McEl-heny took second place in the female
Masters with a time of 1:45:21.
The Chambersburg Memorial YMCAwould like to thank its volunteers(numbering over 30), without whomthis triathlon would not have beenpossible. Volunteers set up bike racks,checked in racers, manned the bike andrun course, counted laps, compiled raceresults, operated rafe drawings, andhanded out awards. Thanks to each ofyou for your support of the YMCA andthese athletes, and congratulations tothe winners. Overall Mens Winner
