Student Council

By Chloee Kuk

I am pretty positive that most people know that Bradley Central has a Student Council. Eleven people from each grade have been elected. But let’s not forget about our officers who were elected last year. I would like you to give yourself a pat on the back because you are the ones that voted for these excellent leaders. I interviewed one of those leaders you picked. Maybe you want to know what she likes to do in her free time. The student I interviewed was 8th grader, Brianna Clingan, the Student Council President. Yes, she is the voice of the shy girl you hear on the announcements, but out of school, she is a funny eighth grader who participates in many activities. She was on the school softball team and has been since she was in 6th grade. She is on the 8th grade basketball team, the volleyball team, and has also been in student council for three years.

What has been happening in Libya

By Madeline Ellexson

What has been happening in Libya lately? Let me tell you, it’s not the best news. Recently there has been a deadly assault on a United States consulate in Libya. It is said to be a reaction to an anti-Muslim video. This attack killed the United States ambassador, Chris Stevens, and three other U.S Americans. They were killed on the 11th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. The Libyan president, Mohammed El Megarif, says that this was a very well planned attack. These were some of the latest attacks in a week-long wave of violence started by a very low budget film. There have also been many protestors who are demonstrating against the anti-Muslim film. They have set a Press Club and a Government Building in Pakistan on fire. They have also had clashes with the police leaving at least one person dead. The protestors have targeted many United States diplomatic posts in the Muslim world, forcing our government in Washington to bring more security into some select countries.

The Chicago Teacher Union Members Strike

By Phillip Koerner

The shutdown of the nations third-largest school district on September 11 happened just days after 350,000 students had returned from summer vacation. The walkout was the first in Chicago in 25 years. Some of the reasons for the strike included the following: -Fair wages (even though the average salary of $76,000 makes the Chicago teachers among the highest paid in the nation) -Fair evaluations and job security -A policy to give laid off teachers first dibs on open jobs in the district After days of negotiating a new contract with the school board and Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the schools opened back up on Wednesday, September 18. Hopefully a strike like this will not happen again in the future.

Jupiter to the Rescue

By Noah Garrett

On the early hours of Sept. 10, 2012 an astronomer detected an explosion on the gas giant Jupiter. It was an asteroid that drifted off its orbit from the asteroid belt. Since Jupiter has the strongest gravity in the solar system, the asteroid was no match for Jupiter’s gravitational pull.

If you don’t know a lot about Jupiter, it is the largest planet in the solar system and has 400 volcanoes. It is completely engulfed in gas and other poisonous substances that can kill a human within the first seconds of inhaling its gasses. A US space probe called Juno is headed towards Jupiter to study the planet’s moon and surface. It was launched on Aug. 5th, 2012 and is scheduled to arrive on July 2016. Maybe it will reveal new facts about the gas giant.

Mrs. Grasse

By Hannah Kegg

Mrs. Grasse has been a teacher on and off for nineteen years, but this is her first year at Bradley Central. Her favorite subject to teach is Language Arts, but teaching computers is still a close second. She loves the college basketball team, The Dukes. She loves the warm wind of summer and the fascinating colors of fall. She favors dogs over cats, but still has room in her heart for horses. Pink catches her eye and graciously matches her favorite hobby of shopping. She loves the sound of the 80s and the piano.

Her two boys are thirteen and eight and one girl is eleven. She is fun and silly, goofy and spirited, and strives for organization. She’s young and exciting! If you have her for computers, language arts, or if you don’t have her at all, Mrs. Grasse is ready to lend a hand or be a friend!

The Titans By Tyler Best

I’m going to tell you a story about the Titans if not given away by the title. I will tell you this story through the six issues of the newspaper. First, I am going to tell you who the Titans are. The mom and dad of the titans are Gaia, the goddess of personification of earth and Ouranos, the God of the sky, or “Father Sky”. The first of the kids was Kronos or Cronos the Lord of time. Okeanos is the ocean stream by the equator. Tethys is the mother of chief rivers. Prometheus is the one who made man from clay. Rhea is the earth goddess and mother of the Olympians. Atlas is the one who holds the sky away from the earth and carries the burden of the sky. Themis is the titan of divine law and custom. Phoebe is the grandmother or Appollo and Artemis and is associated with the moon. Lapetus is the titan of mortal life. Theia is the goddess of brightness. Crius is the father of Perses and grandfather of Hekate. Coeus is the titan that is an axis that the heavens revolve. Hyperios was the lord of light and the titan of the east. He is said to be associated with Helios but nobody really knows. Minemosyne is the mom of the nine masses. That is all I can tell you and will continue with more in the next issue of the school newspaper.

Ever wonder what's going on with the celebs.? Well if you watched the VMAs (Video Music Awards) you would have seen the big reveal of Miley Cirus. The newly engaged star revealed a new haircut, a bleached shaved sides with a bob. Miley's fans are not loving the new do. She continues to post & tweet pics saying that she loves it and doesn't regret it at all. Another shocking hair do is Willow Smith's. She is the daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith. The soon to be 11 year old has outgrown the braids she had at the red carpet to the video "Whip My Hair" and "21 Century Girl". The lovely braids have gone to almost bald & dyeing it various colors from pink to blue and the latest color, green. But she is still smiling with pride .

Lego Batman 2 By: Logan Harrington

This game just came out this summer about the same time The Dark Knight Rises movie came out. This game has about twenty different levels, which to some, are really easy or really hard. Some characters in the game are Batman, Superman, Lex Luthor, Green Lantern, The Joker, and many more amazing characters. This is the very first Lego game that has talking characters in the story before, after, and sometimes during the levels. The story of the game is that Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor are competing in a campaign for a big title in society. During the campaign Batman and Superman team up against Lex and the Gotham City foes. I liked playing as the characters that could fly because you could go places Batman and Robin can’t. I beat this entire game in only two days this summer. This game is available for Xbox 360, Wii, Playstation 3, and the 3DS.

Calling All Directioners

By Sophia Steelman-Teach

The band, One Direction, premiered their song “Live While We’re Young” four days early. It is the #1 song from their upcoming album Take Me Home. The new album hits stores on November 13th. So go to your nearest Walmart, Target, etc. before all the “directioners” buy them before you!

Inkheart By Cornelia Funke

Review by Samuel Clarence Golwitzer Inkheart is a fantasy story that grabs your attention almost instantly. One night, Mo read aloud from a book called Inkheart. Three of the main characters from the book, Basta, Dustfinger, and Capricorn, suddenly appeared in Mo’s living room. Mo’s wife, Theresa, mysteriously vanished. Meggie, Mo’s daughter, was only three years old. Nine years later Dustfinger appears on Mo’s front lawn warning them that Capricorn and Basta are coming. “Beguiling…skillful…the story…seems to have been sprinkled with some magical fairy dust.” -The New York Times Book Review Inkheart is a magical story and is a great book. It tells a wonderful tale about Mo and Meggie. It is a long book but it is definitely worth reading.

Here are some questions to Answer after reading the book 1. What kind of job does Mo have? 2. Who did Mo bring out of Tales of the Arabian Nights? 3. Who has a gigantic library in his/her house?
