Our Covenant Since we have committed ourselves to Jesus Christ and have experienced the acceptance, forgiveness, and redemption of God our Father, we covenant together as members of this Church that with God’s help thought the guiding presence of His Spirit:

We walk together in brotherly love.

We will show loving care for one another and encourage, counsel, and admonish one another.

We will assemble faithfully for worship and fellowship, and will pray earnestly for others as well as for ourselves.

We will endeavor to bring up those under our care “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”

We will seek by Christian example and personal effort, to win others to Christ and to encourage their growth toward Christian maturity.

We will share one another’s joys and endeavor to bear on another’s burdens and sorrows.

We will oppose all conduct which compromises our Christian faith and will uphold high standards of Christian morality.

We will prove the reality of our conversion by living Godly, fruitful lives

We will maintain a faithful ministry of worship, witness, education, fellowship and service.

We will be faithful stewards of our resources and abilities in sharing the gospel with people of all nations.

As a result of this covenant relationship, we will seek earnestly to live to the glory of God who brought us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Pastoral Care Ministry—Pastor Appreciation Month. October is

Pastor Appreciation Month, a time to honor and say thank you to our Pastor, Dr.

Robert L Bryan, Jr., who has been charged with the responsibility to inspire us to

grow in our relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The writer of Hebrews

encourages us to recognize the ongoing sacrifice of Christian pastors, teachers, and

mentors in our lives: Appreciate your pastoral leaders who gave you the Word of God. Take a good look at the

way they live, and let their faithfulness instruct you , as well as their truthfulness. (Heb 13:7) There will be a box

located in the lobby to receive your gifts, cards, monetary gifts throughout the month of October for Pastor Bryan.

The presentation will be on Family & Friends Day, October 21. For more information, contact Sister Gloria Grant,

Monica Willis, Jane Richardson, Melissa Williams, Doris Mitchell.

Baptismal Service—Sunday, October 14: Baptism is an outward testi-

mony of what has occurred inwardly in the life of a believer. The action of being

immersed in the water symbolizes dying and being buried with Christ, while the

action of coming out of the water pictures Christ’s resurrection. It is also a step of

obedience because you are publicly declaring your faith in and your commitment to

Jesus Christ. If you are interested in becoming baptized or would like more infor-

mation, please see any of the Missionaries: Aliese Blunt, Crystal Floyd, Rose Christ-

mas, Debra Miller, Lenora Terrell, or Ruth Washington.

Hallelujah Night: A safe, fun alternative to Halloween. There will be fun,

games, and plenty of treats. This night of excitement will take place, Wednesday,

October 31st from 7pm—9pm in the classroom. Volunteers and candy donations

are needed to make this night a success. For more information, please contact

Sister Pearl Carr-Notice.

The Good Shepherd by Laura Smith (an excerpt from "A City Without Walls")

There once was a flock

That was lost and afraid It wandered around

Without direction for days

But the Lord looked down With compassion from above

And sent a good shepherd To lead them with love

The shepherd was kind

Loving and wise And he cherished his whole flock No matter the color or the size

Though the shepherd was quiet

Humble and meek Every ear listened

Whenever he would speak

He showed them the way To walk in the light

And he prayed every day For God to give them true sight

He taught them about The blood of the Lamb And about the creator

The great I AM

They flourished and they grew Through the knowledge they gained

About the Saviour from above Who lived without blemish or stain

The flock was so thankful

To the Lord up above For sending a wise leader Who was so full of love

He lead them with A strong and gentle good hand

And took the whole flock Safely into God's Promised Land

From Faith to Favor

Excerpt from Chapter 1

Have you ever noticed that there are some people who seem to catch all the breaks? Every

venture they undertake succeeds. Every investment they make brings a hundred-fold return.

Everything they touch turns to gold. “Once-in-a-lifetime” opportunities seem to come their

way every day. While everyone else is suffering and struggling, they continue to thrive. By all

appearances they can do no wrong. Even mistakes turn to their benefit in the long run. There

are many words to describe such people: lucky, fortunate, privileged, blessed, favored.

Whichever word we use, we acknowledge that these people appear to posses a component or

ingredient in their lives that other lack. This lead very naturally to the question, “Why?” Why

them and nobody else? Why do some people seem to live favored lives while others do not?

Too many people in our society today with its emphasis on equality, this seems grossly unfair.

Why should a “favored few” have it so easy while the vast majority of people struggle from day

to day? Why should they have much when so many others have so little. An even more

compelling question for our purposes is this: Why do so few Christian believers live favored

lives? If Christians are citizens and heirs of the kingdom of God, with its infinite wealth and

resources, then why do so many of us live as though we are destitute? If our heavenly Father

freely gives good gifts to His children (Matt 7:11), then why do so few of us show evidence of it.

Understanding Spiritual Warfare

Excerpt from Chapter 2

So many viewpoints vary on what spiritual warfare is and what it is not. Actually, the phrase

spiritual warfare is never mentioned in the Scriptures. However, the whole concept of war and

spiritual conflict is clearly seen throughout almost the entire Bible. In fact, the entire Bible can

be viewed as a Book that helps people overcome spiritual conflicts by accessing the power of

God. How we deal with our conflicts, or even whether we deal with them at all, is the center of

spiritual warfare. And what you choose to ignore now does not go away in time, as some

mistakenly believe. To the contrary, you must deal with it. After all, will cancer or AIDS

suddenly disappear simple because you deny that they exist? Of course not! That cancer or

AIDS will only get worse if left untreated or ignored. This is often the state of the body of

Christ. Although the body is very much alive and still accomplishing great things, it is very ill

with a malady that it refuses to openly or inwardly acknowledge. As a result, slow decay is

occurring. On the outside it may appear as if a particular church is thriving because it boasts

3,000 plus members. But that alone does not depict either its value or its present health

condition. It may appear that since a particular evangelist travels more than a quarter of a

million miles each year, everything is running smoothly in his or her ministry. But the reality

may be that while the evangelist’s ministry is effectively advancing the efforts to reach lost

souls, which is what everyone on the outside sees, on the inside the ministry is carrying ……...
