Last year, the young couple accepted Christ through the evangelistic outreach of one of OCI’s member ministries in Tanzania, Eden Valley Foster Care Mission. Shortly after their baptism, a Christian acquaintance passed away; Brenda decided to attend the funeral, too. fear the spirits that she decided to learn more about the Seventh-day Adventist faith; after taking Bible studies, Brenda was baptized and now attends church.

“I am always so impressed when an older person gives their heart to Jesus, since they have lived their whole life a different way,” says Janet Fournier, director of the ministry.

In addition to community outreach, the ministry has an educational program designed to equip young people with practical skills.

In June, more than 100 people attended a nightly, two-week evangelistic series. At its conclusion, 16 students and three villagers were baptized.

Seeking to improve the program and campus, this year the team constructed new staff housing, storage buildings, and a cafeteria kitchen. With limited resources, they continue to move forward by God’s grace to meet local needs. p

Vows for ChangeWill had a special reason for letting

his lengthy locks grow. Last year he took a Nazirite vow (Numbers 6:1-21), which includes abstaining from alcoholic beverages.

After several months, Will was ready to end the vow and make a lifelong heart commitment to keep his body pure, but he wanted a “God place” to do it.

This summer Will, along with a group of other young volunteers, came to Cave Springs Home in Tennessee to participate in a weeklong work camp. For the past three years, Cave Springs’ small team and residents have had the opportunity to connect with youth through these camps.

During the week, Will enjoyed working, as well as listening to the worship thoughts shared each day. On Wednesday he saw one of the administrators, Joyce Barnes, cutting residents’ hair. Will shared that he had

been looking for a place to end his vow and had decided this was it. After cutting his hair, Joyce gave him two books to help him deal with some issues he was struggling with.

The Cave Springs team was happy to be a part of Will’s spiritual growth and continues to seek ways to help visitors, as well as its residents, to gain a clearer picture of God.p

Black Hills Health & Education Center, USA: This summer the ministry made a new connection with its community. For the second year, the team participated in community-supported agriculture (a program where locals pay an initial fee and then receive a box of fresh vegetables each week). Black Hills produced 33 boxes for 15 weeks. The tasty organic veggies were also a welcome addition to guests’ plates at the ministry’s lifestyle center.
