From the Pastor's Desk.... Last week I received a report from our parish accountant on the income and expenses for the fiscal year which ended on August 31, 2018. It revealed some interesting facts. I will publish a summary of the whole report in the coming weeks and answer any and all questions about it. However, I just want to point out a few items: Total income last year was $2,645,853. Mostly from the rent from our buildings. The total Sunday collection amount was $252,997. The total expenses came to $2,779,285 mostly from salaries, benefits and maintenance and repairs to our buildings. This resulted in a deficit of $133,432. This means that we began this September with this deficit. Keep in mind that we get money back when we pay our pledges to the Diocese. The Annual Catholic Appeal goal was $52,648 and only $42,277.50 was pledged or paid so far. The Generations of Faith campaign had a goal of $ 478,000. We have come nowhere near paying our pledges. Unless these are fully paid, the parish will be getting nothing back from these campaigns. In addition, we are slowly paying back a loan to the Diocese which was needed to pay for the costs of St. Joseph Chapel which is at $1,679,008. We pay $38,000 a month for this. I know that I don't usually discuss these things at Mass, but maybe I should begin to do so. We really need to know that the parish is in debt, and the income from you is not growing. For example, the Christmas and Easter collections combined were only $10,725! To be honest, we do very little fund raising here. One of our most important ones is the Christmas Tree and wreath donations. SO, please think about this and try your best to help us get out of the red and into a healthy financial state. Thank you for whatever you can do. Msgr. Ronald Marino

The Holy Father speaks… The mission to spread the Gospel, which Jesus commits to the Church, is literally unlimited. This seems particularly audacious when we look at the small band of disciples to whom Jesus entrusted that mission. But this helps us realize that the Church can fulfill her mission only with the strength that God Himself gives. Jesus tells the disciples, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. This mission has been carried on by their successors through the ages, and continues even today. It requires the collaboration of all of us.

Are You Considering Cremation? Many people are under the wrong impression that the Catholic Church prohibits cremation. In fact, it does not. What the Church forbids is anything which diminishes the dignity of the human body or reflects a disbelief in the Resurrection of our bodies which we believe will happen no matter where we are resting. Specifically, the Church prohibits the scattering of cremated remains into the air or the sea, the dividing of the remains among family and friends, keeping the remains at home or doing anything with the human remains of a loved one which lacks religious dignity. The Church requires that the cremated remains of a person be buried in a cemetery grave or kept in a place designed for this purpose – a Columbarium. At Regina Pacis Basilica we are blessed to have a Columbarium in St. Joseph Chapel in the lower level of our beautiful Basilica. “To bury the Deceased” has always been a Catholic work of mercy. We are happy to offer this dignified and beautiful Chapel to all.

We know the Rosary is a prayer that consists of many prayers.

It is a powerful prayer to God, through His mother, Mary. Why do Catholics pray the Rosary?

Praying the rosary has been a tradition in the Church for a long time. The rosary begins with the recitation of the Apostle's Creed, an Our Father, three Hail Mary's and a Glory Be. Then there are five decades which each begin and end with an Our Father and Glory Be, and have ten Hail Mary's in between.

When you pray the rosary, you meditate on the events in Jesus' life. There are the Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious mysteries.
