“To the First U.M. Church Body: A rainy Sunday afternoon certainly didn’t stop Mark and Connie Goldner from adding lots of sunshine to my day by delivering one of the beautiful Sunday Altar flower bouquets to me. . . flowers which were presented to the Glory of God by Ted and Dot Ristoff in celebration of their 54 years of marriage! What a blessed reminder of God’s love! I have a hot pad on my kitchen counter which has the following stitching-“Friends are like flowers-they brighten your day!” When one is blessed with both friends AND flowers, that truly is a double blessing! Such is what I’ve received from all of your love caring and prayers during my surgery recovery time! THANK YOU dear church family and friends!”

Gratefully and in His love, Yvonne Becker Psalm 115:15

Soup, Salad, & Stories Study Join us on Thurs, Oct 17, for the first session of Soup, Salad, and Stories this fall in the Social Room, 11:30am-1:30pm. Soup, Salad, & Stories is an experience of spiritual growth combined with fellowship and fun over lunch. We will be studying/discussing a video curriculum entitled “Twelve Women of the Bible-Life Changing Stories for Women Today”. In this study, by Lysa Terkeurst and five additional authors, you will study stories of twelve women in the Bible. By looking at the triumphs and failures of Mary Magdalene, Rebekeh, Hannah, and nine other women, you will discover new insights and be challenged, encouraged, and empowered to face trials in your own life by drawing closer to God. A brief video introduction begins the time together and digging deeper discussion follows lunch. Participants sign up to help provide food and a freewill donation is also available for those not signed up. All women are invited to this once a month study held on the 3rd Thursday of the month. Books maybe picked up and purchased in the church office. Questions? Contact: Mary Deem, 339-5227.

FISH-ing Fact # 527 During the first nine months of 2013, FISH has helped a total of 527 households in the communities of Casstown, Troy, and Pleasant Hill, our service areas. Of those 527 households, 287 have asked FISH for assistance to stop a utility disconnect. During that same time, 120 families have needed the last $100 for a rent payment. As you see, the majority of FISH's dollars are spent for utility disconnects and rent----83%. The balance of help is for prescriptions, clothing, and gasoline. There are many around us who live on the very edge to survive. Lend a hand. Go FISH-ing. Use the envelope provided today to assist.

You may choose one of the following:

Choral Anthem “Open My Eyes, Spirit Divine” Text by: Clara H. Scott Music by: James Koerts

Open my eyes, that I may see Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me; Place in my hands the wonderful key That shall unclasp and set me free.

Refrain: Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready my God, Thy will to see, Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine.

Open my ears, that I may hear Voices of truth Thou sendest clear; And while the scriptures fall on my ear, Everything false will disappear.

Refrain:

Open my mouth, and let me bear, Gladly the warm truth everywhere; Open my heart and let me prepare Love with Thy children thus to share.

Refrain:

The Altar flowers are presented to the Glory of God by Dottie Gentle, in memory of Robert Gentle.
