Have you volunteered for years out of duty? When you return from working in a ministry, do

you find yourself wondering if your efforts made a difference?

If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions then plan to attend the next

Called & Gifted Workshop

Saturday, November 13 | 9 AM – 4 PM By attending, you will learn much about your spiritual giftedness, and how God has best equipped you to fulfill His mission to love others. Please contact the Church Office today to register – 260-489-3537 ext. 3 or visit the parish website at saintv.org/called-gifted.

There is such a spirit of gratitude that needs to be expressed, in our parish, our lives, and our faith. We’ve been listening in Mark’s gospel to some hard truths the past couple of weeks; the importance of marriage, raising children in the faith, the value of the family, and what it takes to inherit eternal life.

The direction Jesus provides is said clearly, methodically, and with love. “Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him...” It would be good to remember the way that the Lord gazes on us and responds to our desires. The response is not always what we may want to hear, but it is what we need. Since Jesus loves us, He tells us hard things. He also gives us steps to go deeper into

our faith and never stops reminding us that to follow Him will be difficult and challenging, but the payoff is well worth it.

With the Annual Bishops Appeal upon us I would like to highlight again the immense gratitude I have for all of you at St. Vincent de Paul and how we are called to be a Witness to Hope. It is more than just money, there is a personal witness and testimony that each person offers in the outpouring of their faith. It is the prayer, the intentionality, as well as the seeking and striving to find the lost and wandering sheep. Our parish, let alone our diocese, would not be the same without each of you, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

From the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,

Fr. Jay Horning

2 | OCTOBER 10, 2021 • TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

PERPETUAL ADORATION AT

ST. VINCENT’S Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Oratory of St. Mary Magdalene is continuous with the exception of Mass at 5:30 pm on Fridays.

Our adoration software allows us to sign up for monthly and biweekly commitments! Visit www.saintv.org/adoration and click "sign up for an hour." On our "We Adore Him" homepage, click "log in" and then "create one now" in the pop-up box to open your account. Enter your contact information and if you'd like to be notified of sub requests, click the hours that you are available on a daily basis; otherwise, unclick "notify me of sub requests." Click "create account" at the bottom of the box. The adoration schedule for this week will open for you; click the hour you'd like to adore, enter the frequency (weekly, biweekly, monthly) and whether or not you'd like a reminder message, then click "sign up."

To request a substitute, you may enter the site through our homepage or visit saintv.weadorehim.com. Click "login", enter your name and password, then "my dashboard" from the "We Adore Him" homepage. Click "request substitute" next to the date you need a sub. Names of adorers during your hour, as well as before and after, will appear. Contact them for coverage in an emergency; our software will not accept a sub request with less than 6 hours until the commitment. Otherwise, proceed to complete the request. It will be sent when the date is one week away, and you will receive a notification when it has been accepted. You may visit your dashboard to make sure that you've sent the request and see when it has been accepted.

Until further notice, the section of pews near the confessionals will have every other pew roped off to provide social distancing during ALL weekend Masses EXCEPT the 11 AM. Anyone sitting in this section must wear a mask when the ropes are on the pews. This section will be open during the 11 AM Mass.

If you have health concerns, you are encouraged to sit in this section. The rest of the Church will remain open, and you may choose to wear a mask or not.

We are implementing this change as a true sacrificial act of charity for our brothers and sisters who have health concerns. If you are not concerned about social distancing or choose to not wear a mask, please find another place in the Church to accommodate those in this section.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH | 3

Hello everyone! Our goal is always the love of Jesus. Heaven is seeing God and everyone through the look of Love. This was the same look that he gave the man from the Gospel and even each of us. Most of the issues we struggle with in the interior life is understanding the look of Love from Jesus and allowing that love to determine our ability to follow Jesus.

SAINTV.ORG/HIGHSCHOOL

Fellow Parishioners, 10/10/21

Greetings in Christ! I continue to focus on how our parish/school can be conduits of God’s grace. I had a moment in the Oratory the other week that was particularly powerful.

One of our school moms was there with her son. They didn’t see me come in or know I was there. They were praying together, which of course is a beautiful gift and a privilege to witness in the first place. I want to be vague deliberately so as not to embarrass anyone, but her son, while not one of our oldest students, is also not in our youngest grades. There was a moment when they had sat down after kneeling and mom did what likely any loving mom would do – she put her arm around her son. Perhaps unknowingly really. He did what likely every mom might hope their son would do – but something probably increasingly rare as sons grow – he leaned into that embrace. Also, perhaps unknowingly.

I wouldn’t write about this if they’d known I was there. I actually was relatively focused on my own prayer with the Lord in that time, but I couldn’t help but notice these moments. I think the Lord actually intended them to be a part of my experience with Him in the moment because they were that pure, good, and innocent.

Some would criticize me for overselling this moment – but to me the purity and goodness of this was a brief window into the Kingdom of God. A window into the love of a parent, given freely, fully, faithfully, and fruitfully, just as our Father gives to us. A window into the love of a son in return.

If there is anything that makes our school truly and deeply excellent, it is this possibility for all in our community. Our academic achievement is in fact exceptional – our test scores speak to this. Our staff is exceptional – their daily love and ministry shows me this. Our sports programs, our technology, our cafeteria, etc. – all truly are excellent and deserving of recognition.

Yet, in the end, our school is here to deepen the love of Jesus – to make His love more visible/real to all we encounter and especially to our children. This moment was a deeply beautiful one – obviously one for a mom and her son, but one that the Lord allowed me to witness to remind me of His goodness in that love. Thank you, Lord.

This week, if we’re in need of a beautiful moment (and probably since COVID began, who isn’t in need of this?) – may I suggest our Oratory as a place to look. I don’t know if God will honor that on your first visit, but I do know that He will honor it. God always fulfills His promises.

In Faith,

November 15 Eucharistic Miracles (with Tim Francis)

Coming Soon at St. Vincent’s:

6 | OCTOBER 10, 2021 • TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

You are invited to experience how several well-documented miracles stand up to scientific investigation and discover what implications these miracles have for you!

Monday, November 15 6:30 - 9:00 pm | Church

(same presentation on Wednesday, November 17, 6:30 pm at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church)

From altar boy to party boy; from non-denominational mega church back to the Roman Catholic Church. Tim Francis shares with us his quest for truth. This is a LIVE presentation hosted by Tim Francis. Here are a few things you will hear and see:

• A statue of Christ weeping human tears and bleeding human blood

• Multiple communion hosts tested by science that transformed into human heart

• Lady being filmed and tested before, during and after Stigmata

• Much more: The meaning of suffering. Why be Catholic after all the corruption? Are all Religions the same? Why confess to a man when he might be just as sinful? ….

Tim has since conducted over 500 parish missions conveying the meaning of the miracles with results similar to the following:

from a fallen away son who returned after his mother dragged him to presentation: “I wanted to thank you for changing my life. My mom went to day 1 of the 3-day mission… she got me to attend the second day… I was an occasional Mass attendee, mostly holidays. After your talk I made a good confession and now attend Mass DAILY…” from a fallen away Catholic turned Protestant Pastor: “Without hesitation, nor exaggeration, I can say it was this presentation that was the pinnacle of my return to the Catholic Church…. “ from a 36-year-old fallen away Catholic son whose mother prayed for years for his return to the Church: “Seeing the miracles that no science can refute, and the people personally touched by Jesus and Mary forever changed the direction of my life and the makeup of my heart… I felt the power of Jesus and for me that could only have happened by seeing what Tim presented. Since that day in May I have not missed a Mass.”

Tim explains what this is all about on a short video at

www.ScienceTestsFaith.com/Catholic

KENTUCKY KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

MISSION COLLECTION With your help, Knights of Columbus St. Joseph Hessen Cassel Council #12379 from Kentucky were able to collect enough to fill a 16’ rental truck for the St. Paul Catholic Mission at McKee, Kentucky. They are preparing for the last trip of 2021. Winter clothing, new or used coats in good condition, hats, gloves, toys, household items, towels, and bedding are needed. Often in the wintertime as families try to keep their homes warm, they experience fires, so the Mission tries to keep on hand the necessary items to help a family recover from a disaster. If you are able to donate anything to this vital Catholic Mission in Eastern Kentucky it is greatly appreciated. Contact LeeAnn at 260-602-6499 by Wednesday, October 13.

Second Annual Kingdom Builders Conference! The second annual Kingdom Builders Conference will be on Saturday, October 16, from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm at the Memorial Coliseum. Amazing speakers, breakfast, lunch, drinks, Reconciliation, Adoration, Praise and Worship, Mass with Bishop Rhoades and more! By giving to the Annual Appeal today, you answer God's call to discipleship by supporting His work throughout our diocese. Your gift has a two‑fold effect: it supports the work of diocesan services, ministries and programs, and offsets our parish goal. Any overage will stay in the parish to fund parish needs. Please complete a pledge card this weekend, or go online to make a gift. Thank you for your prayerful and generous response.

Attendance at two Baptismal Preparation Sessions is required before your child is baptized. You may attend Session II before Session I, if necessary. Each session will begin at 7:00 pm. It is recommended that both parents attend before the birth of your child so that there will be no delay in setting a date for the baptism once the baby is born. Godparents, too, are welcome. At least one parent must be Catholic and at least one Godparent must be a practicing Catholic. Parents must be registered in the Parish. Please call the Church Office (489-3537 ext. 3) or register online at saintv.org/Baptism.
