In Family Services, we know that parents and family are the most important people in a child’s life. Our job is, for a time, to provide support, advocacy and share knowledge with families and caregivers in their journey of raising a child. Our goal is for families to be confident, involved, successful and empowered as parents and caregivers”.

Board of Directors Leadership Team 2011-2012

The Fraser Valley Child Development Centre has a strong commitment to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of it’s services and supports to children, families and community partners. On an annual basis FVCDC reviews it’s performance and develops goals and measurements in the areas of efficiency , effectiveness, accessibility, satisfaction, governance and business performance. A corresponding business plan with actions to achieve the identified goals are developed, implemented and measured over time. This process has helped FVCDC make some significant changes in it’s approach to services delivery over the years. In past surveys many families indicated that they did not have one consistent person from FVCDC over time and sometimes received conflicting information from different team members serving their children. In 2004, in response to what we learned from families FVCDC embarked on a multi-year review of best practices for our early intervention services and creating a more family centered integrated team approach to delivering services to each individual child and their family. The resulting changes not only improved communication and consistency it also resulted in a significant change to the timeliness of service de-livery. Children went from waiting 6 to 18 months for service to a wait time of 1 to 3 months. Our vision in this ongoing process.

“A child, or a youth, and even the parent, ultimately enjoys the satisfaction of success when something such as a seemingly simple adjustment is made to the height of a door handle. Simplifying the every day activities for a child is imperative to opening a world of accessibility and accomplishment”.
