CALENDAR OF EVENTS | Oct 2019-Jan 2020

A WORD FROM OUR NEW DIRECTORAlliance Française of Hyderabad has a long history of its own. The connection between France, the city and its adjoin-ing areas goes few centuries back and it is growing strong. Thanks to its wel-coming, competent and dedicated team, it also has a bright future.

Teaching French language to our stu-dents keeping up with the best inter-national standards is our first mission. Teachers in Hy-derabad has been constantly ensur-ing that the city re-mains a major cent-

er of Francophony. Thanks to Bordeaux Nouvelle Aquitaine, Hyderabad has also a direct connec-tion with one of the most dynamic and beautiful regions of France.

Alliance Françaises are platforms for artistic, cultural and intellectual dia-logues around the world. Along with our partners such as the Department of Language & Cul-ture of the Govern-ment of Telangana, Krishnakriti Founda-tion, the Goethe-Zentrum, Quadir Ali Baig Theatre Foun-dation, Phoenix Are-

na, the various art societies and all the artist community of Telangana, we are looking forward to exciting programs.Today’s world calls for a multidimen-sional understand-ing of society. While high technology is redefining many parameters of our lives, the prime and outmost importance of ecological bal-ance is coming back to the fore. Both call for a new look to cultural, and artistic forms. Let us explore the ways to be active players. Hyderabad is the right place!

Born and brought up in an urban conservative family, her works majorly depicted her relatives - cousins, nieces and her daughter. Therefore, humans predominate her visual vocabu-lary. Consequentially, human emotions are an integral aspect of the stories narrated upon her canvas. Gradually from very subjective themes she has gravitated toward objective sub-jects in her works. With the shift in location, from urban to rural, since three years there is a gradually shift which makes way for the rural in her current works : The green expanse of unpolluted nature and the rural folk glide into her vision. Es-pecially women make their presence felt as they approach her in the form of self-help groups.

Testimony #1 | Vaishnavi Korupuri

I’ve reached Toulouse on 4th September, 2019 and it’s been great so far. I love the city. It’s very peaceful around here.

The French I’ve learned from Alliance Francaise has been very helpful to communicate with locals regarding direc-tions and in supermarkets for prices and other basic stuff. The biggest advantage about studying in France is explor-ing different culture which also leads to different style of education as well. There are no question banks and important questions here, and the lecturers in France are genuinely interested in teaching. We can see how pas-sionate they are about their job.

I will surely recommend people to study in France. The education here isn’t just budget friendly but also worth every penny we are paying.

All I would like to say is, France is a beautiful place with a lot of student benefits as well. Everyone, either a student or not, one should explore this place.

Have you ever lived in France?I lived with my family in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, a city close to Paris when I was 7 to 17 years old. I love France. I went back three times, and every time, I visited my house.

How have you learnt to speak French?I have learned in school in France. In 1974, I passed a certificate of French proficiency at the University of Mumbai.

When did you start teaching French?I started teaching French to Indian engineers who were going to France to work in a French company. Nobody could speak English in France at that time, in the 1960s. The story of my teaching started from there. In 1979, I did a 3-month teacher traineeship in Sèvres, France, thanks to a University Grants Com-mission scholarship. I have a PGTC, the Post-Grad-uate Teacher Certificate. When I came back to India in the mid-1960s, I started to teach at the Centre culturel français until it closed in 1969 and at Osma-nia University. Since the Alliance Française of Hyderabad was created in 1980, I have been working here. It will be 40 years next year.

How would you describe in few words your experience with AFH?Passion and enthusiasm for the French language and teaching.

Portrait #1 Meena Reddy

Created in 1980, the Alliance Française of Hyderabad boasts a large community of alumni, many of whom went to study or work in France or other French-speaking countries.

In 2020, the AFH will celebrate its 40th anniversary. For this occasion, the AFH has the ambition to gather its current and former students and to build a strong net-work of AFH members through the organisation of regular social events.

A portrait of an AFH Alumni member will be regularly presented. Below is the first portrait of Meena Reddy, professor at the AFH since its creation in 1980.

Our first Alumni event will be held on Saturday November 30 at AFH Auditorium.

Join the new Alliance Française of Hyderabad Alumni Facebook Group to be updated of the latest events and news.

It will be 40 years in 2020

that I have been working at the Alliance Française of Hyderabad.

An Organic Waste Composter was in-stalled at Alliance Francaise Cafeteria on 6th September, 2019 in association with Peepal Waste Managers, a pio-neer Waste Management Company in Hyderabad. The AFH team inaugu-rated the composter by adding the left over kitchen waste from the cafeteria. It is the first step illustrating the new ambition of the AFH to become more sustainable and reduce its ecological footprint in the future.
