Dear Friends: Did you see Ben Joravsky’s arcle last week highlighng Dianne Daleiden’s race against Pat O’Connor, the City Council’s Floor Leader and Rahm’s right-hand man? “It looks as though this me around 40th Ward alderman Pat O’Connor—who’s been in office since the ice age—will at least have an opponent. Her name is Dianne Daleiden, and she even has a website. Here’s hoping she can survive the inevitable signature challenge from Alderman O’Connor’s elecon lawyers. OK, look, 40th Ward voters, I’m not telling you how to vote, but, think about this… Alderman O’Connor rounely champions the mayor’s ideas, like the parking meter deal, and Mayor Rahm’s sll done a terrible job of paving your streets. So it might be a good me to at least ask yourself what exactly you get out of the Emanuel/O’Connor polical arrangement.” Sweet. But Ben knows geng on the ballot isn’t about luck. It takes hundreds of us to collect 1000s of signatures so we BURY O’Connor’s lawyers. We NEED you October 4 to SWARM the ward to get Dianne Daleiden on the ballot! It’s an easy sell – can’t you give us 2-3 hours on Saturday morning? Why help Dianne? Because the 40th Ward is winnable! • 25% of the ward is new (2015 map) and 70% comes from Ameya Pawar’s 47th ward who like him and see him as a progressive. O’Connor, notsomuch. Plus, no one has run against him in 20 years – he’s forgoen how to ask for a vote. • People relate to Dianne because she’s one of them — lived in the ward for 30 years, mom, CPS teacher, business woman and community organizer. And she’s proven me and again she’s a progressive civic leader – from pushing out charter schools to demanding TIF transparency. • O’Connor’s dogged by ethics probe. A week aﬅer the Inspector General opened an ethics invesgaon on O’Connor that includes “solicing campaign contribuons, contract inducement, conflict of interest, improper influence and fiduciary duty.” O’Connor tries to remove the IG.
