CLEGHORN TRAIL SEPTEMBER 28, 2019 TRIP REPORT By: NOEL PARK

We met at the Cleghorn Road offramp from I-15 at 9:00 on Saturday morning. Everyone was on time. There were 9 rigs, 6 Jeeps, 2 Toyota Tacomas and one Chevy full-size pickup.

Participants were (apologies if I mangle your name. I'm reading from the sign up sheet and some of the names are a bit hard to decipher):

John Fyfe and Jill Makasako - Curt Chapin - Jason Williams - Cole Walton - Dale Rice - Steve Telenko Alan Thomen - B.S. Townsend - Nick "full-size" and Brodie Townsend - Stan Lykins

After a short driver's meeting, Wagonmaster Telenko led us up the road. Cleghorn Road is a well maintained fire road but, as Steve said, there are side Jeep trails almost it's full length. Steve knew them all!

The weather was chilly, in the lower 50s most of the day. Plus quite strong wind and heavy fog/low cloud cover. It was something to see the clouds come blowing over us on the ridge line.

The trails were challenging enough to hold drivers interest and require 4wd most of the way. There were quite a few pretty challenging obstacles, but everybody got through them fine until right near the end.

It was interesting to see a brand new Gladiator Rubicon which traveled along with us for a while. Stan and others spotted him through a couple of rough places.

Towards the end of the day, Steve went up probably the most difficult climb of the day. "full-size" followed him. He had open diff's and lost traction about half way up. Despite heroic and determined attacks, he couldn't negotiate the climb. Finally his front driveshaft popped out of the slip joint. Others went to help and removed the driveshaft. He was then able to back down. We all then headed back to the highway with the pickup in 2wd.

There were some pretty good obstacles on the way. The 2wd pickup got stuck twice. It was winched out with minimum drama by Dale who as following him.

A big thank you to Steve for leading a fun run through beautiful scenery and adventuresome weather. A shout out to Stan as well. As always, he was one of the first to jump out and spot or help with challenges.

Respectfully submitted, Noel Park

Happy Halloween!
