[email protected] Tech Teaching Moment: Content is Still King Much like spy vs. spy in MAD magazine, there are two schools of thought when it comes to Search EngineOptimization, "White Hat" and "Black Hat". The Black Hat mentality is aimed at trying to trick the searchengines into ranking them higher with subversive and typically misleading tactics. They are the reason you arriveat a website wholly different than what you expected when you click on a given link. White Hat SEO is focusedon building a website that serves the intended purpose and provides the visitor with the content they weresearching for in the first place. While there are certainly techniques that can and should be used to optimize your pages "behind the scenes",such as meta tags, inbound links and even cross-links, the content on the page itself carries a ton of weight.Making sure your website is filled with on-topic, keyword specific, compelling, quality and original contentshould be the primary objective on your SEO to-do list. Your visitors will appreciate it and the search engineswill reward you for it.

Thank you to all the lodging properties who have offered rooms andmeals for journalists visiting in November. The number of responses wehad from lodging far exceeded the number of media coming, but we nowhave a great list to call upon when additional media visit the Valley. I willbe contacting all lodging properties where media will be staying. If you donot hear that your property is hosting a journalist, please don't hold aroom. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Marti Mayne [email protected]. We hope you will keep your photos coming. Photos depicting snow andfoliage are used to update meteorologists on the changing weather in MtWashington Valley and help to promote the beauty of the Valley.Additionally, all photos sent to the chamber are posted on the MWVCC

Flickr page so potential visitors and media can discover the Valley well into the future. Photos are listed underCreative Commons licenses for unlimited commercial and personal use. We do this to help publicize the scenicbeauty and businesses in Mt Washington Valley. If, however, you or your business would like a more stringentuse license (limiting usage of the photo) we will simply assign a more stringent license to the photo(s). Pleasesimply let us know when photos are sent that you would prefer tighter usage of the photos. Click here to learnmore about the different attribution licenses on Flickr.

Media Coverage of Mt Washington Valley:Mark Butterfield's October 8th photos of snow atop Bretton Woods with foliage updates in Mt WashingtonValley were seen on Portland's WGME and WBZ plus NECN in Boston. A story about driving the Kanc was posted on BucketTripper.com by true supporters of MW Valley, Barbaraand Stillman Rogers. Driving on the Kanc is mentioned in this story about great fall foliage destinations on Huffington Post. Conway Scenic Railroad's photo highlighted a story about bargains during fall on SmarterTravel.com. EasternSlopes.com featured a number of college season pass deals from the Valley. Two Boston TV stations (WBZ and WHDH) included a photo of plowable snow on the Mt Washington AutoRoad on weather forecasts and then posted to Facebook and Twitter.
