Objectives:Mrs.

FillpotRm. 504

1. Recognize that inherited traits of individuals are governed in the genetic material found in the genes within chromosomes in the nucleus.

2. compare the results of uniform or diverse offspring from sexual reproduction or asexual reproduction.

Review Questions:Mrs.

FillpotRm. 504

Marissa said that the dragonfly with the genotype Ss would have a medium length abdomen.

What mistake did she make?

Page 11: Oct. 17 th 2011

Activity: Dragonfly Genetics, Assignment 42Mrs.

FillpotRm. 504

Procedure:

Analyze each chromosome, match it with its partner to determine the genotype for each trait.

Use the genotypes to determine the phenotypes.

You and your partner will use the data you collect to determine which dragonfly belongs with each set of chromosomes.

2011Conclusion Questions for Dragonfly Genetics

Conclusion questions for Dragonfly 10/17/11Genetics,

1. For which genes is baby 1 homozygous recessive?

2. For which genes is baby 2 heterozygous?3. For which genes is baby 3 homozygous

recessive?4. Is it possible for two organisms to have the

same phenotype but different genotypes? Explain using examples from the lab.

5. Dragonfly 1 mates with Dragonfly 2, predict the genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring for the hair trait. Be specific and explain how you arrived at your answer.

Mrs. Fillpot

504

The offspring produced from sexual reproduction show more variety in their genotypes and phenotypes. Why?

In sexual reproduction, the offspring get one allele from each parent for each trait. There are many more possibilities for genotypes and therefore phenotypes.

In asexual reproduction the DNA is exactly like the parent. There is no variation in genotype or phenotype.
