Bizarrely, this morning it appears that Santa Claus has crashed his sleigh into the school garden. It is believed he was practising his flight over Sheffield ready for Christmas Eve. He managed to walk away from the accident, leaving a trail of foot prints as he fled. His sleigh however, may have seen better days. Mr Owen, a local resident from Norris Road, was lucky enough to see Santa and check he was alright. Worryingly, he reported, ‘He seemed dazed and confused. I’m worried he may have lost his memory!’

Your child’s task will be to:

KS1- Write a explanation of what Santa needs to do before December 25th. This can include making the toys for children, looking after his reindeer, flying around the world and carefully delivering gifts to boys and girls.

In preparation for this BIG Write please discuss Santa’s list of jobs with your child. On the next pageis the ambitious vocabulary we would like the children to use and an example explanation text that you may want to read with your child to give them some ideas of the language they could use and how they could structure their writing.

We will be choosing one explanation from each year group to put on the school website and if your child is successful they will be presented with a certificate in

Firstly, you must make the toys for the boys and girls. Your army of small, helpful Elves with dark, green dungarees will help you by reading all of the letters. After you have wrapped all of these present carefully organise them onto the sleigh.

Your reindeers are very important! You must feed them three times a day for a week before you fly and remember that flying is extremely tiring so you must have regular breaks to drink water and eat carrots. Being organised it very important on Chrismas Eve. Carefully plan your route around the world and remember to look at the labels on each present so every child gets the correct gift. It is important to fly quickly and quietly and glide through the moonlit sky.

Finally, once you have delivered the last present you can head back home. After you have parked your bright red sleigh, you can relax in your comfy rocking chair with a hot drink and final mince pie.
