Ocean Zones
• Sunlit Zone: Top layer, nearest the surface. Enough light to support photosynthesis.
• Twilight Zone: Small amount of light penetrates the water. Water becomes deeper, and pressure increase, too. Plants do not grow here. Only animals that have adapted to little light survive.

• Midnight Zone: 90% of the ocean is in the midnight zone. Entirely dark. Water pressure is extreme. Temperature is near freezing.
• Special forms of bacteria use hydrogen sulfide to make food. All other living things in this zone eat the bacteria.
