Minor lithology: Chert layers of very dark gray (2.5Y N3) dark greenish gray (5GY 4/1) occurin Section 1, 75 and 145 cm, and in Section 2 from 8-10 cm. respectively. Black (7.5YR N2)chert pebbles occur in the core catcher.

CHERT

The core is highly fractured.

Major lithology: CHERT, black (2.5Y 2/0, or N2) with some gray to light gray (2.5Y 6/0. and 7/0, or N6 and N7) chalcedony veins about 2 mm thick. Rare vugs are lined with white or blackquartz microcrystals. Chert piece at Section 2, 25 cm has an exposed vein surface coveredwith chalcopyrite.

Minor lithology: Limestone, light gray (5Y 6/1) in color. Horizontal streaks are secondarydissolution seams, not primary laminae.

LITHOLOGIC DESCRIPTION

LIMESTONE AND CHERT

The core is highly fragmented.

Major lithologies:a. LIMESTONE, gray (5Y 5/1) to olive (5Y 4/3) in color. The limestone is weakly laminatedand mottled. Microfaults, fractures, and calcite and silica-filled fractures are common inSection 1.b. CHERT, black (5Y 2.5/1, 5Y 2.5/2) is present in discrete layers. In Section 1 chert ispresent at 10-15, 65, and 128 cm. It appears as a biscuit, often with a limestone rind on oneside. In Section 2 chert is present from 0-3, 20-60, and 83-88 cm. Light gray (N7) chalcedonyveinlets are observed.
