MONEY
New shelter’s cost $20 million*Renovating old shelter $11 million*Sale price of 3.7 acres at old site $9 million*Hence new shelter costs the same as renovation.Irvine will be receiving over ½ Billion in 12 yrs.New Shelter is the smart way to go.
*Animal Arts Study commissioned by City of Irvine
Fact #1
• The Great Park is 1,357 Acres.• Over 200 acres are designated for a golf course.• Irvine already has 4 golf courses and only one small
outdated 30 year old shelter. • There are more pet owners in Irvine than golfers.• The estimated acreage for the Great Park Animal Eco
Center is 30 acres.• If you alter the proposed plan for a 27 hole golf course to
an 18 hole course, there is enough land for both the Eco Center and Golf Course.
Fact #2
Fact #3
THE ECO CENTER’S MAINTENANCE WILLCOST LESS THAN THE CURRENT FACILITY
FOR THESE REASONS:1. The shelter will be big enough to contract with other cities
who wish to be associated with a compassionate shelter.2. The shelter will be free to fundraise in cities it has contracts
with.3. A café will be on premises.4. A larger area for selling pet toys, food and supplies will bring
in funds.5. Energy and Water Efficiency will save funds.6. State of the Art Medical Facility will mean more in house
operations thus saving the cost of sending the animals to outside Veterinarian services.
“We will ensure… continual input by our community to create the best animal shelter in Irvine
and the county.”
Council Woman Christina Shea
