The 21st JMG Career
Development Conference
(CDC) was a success!
Three hundred JMG
students attended the
conference held May 3th
and 4th at the Billings
Hotel & Convention Center
in Billings.
The competitive events are
the main focus of the CDC
with over 17 categories
that relate directly to
JMG’s curriculum. There
were 384 competitive
events entries. Great to
have so many students
competing!
The students also attended
career related workshops.
Calie Porter, Student As-
sistance Foundation, pre-
sented information on the
financial gains from a col-
lege education, basic finan-
cial literacy, credit ratings
and using credit wisely.
The Credit Jeopardy game
was fun and a hit.
Once again, Chet Leach
and his drumming work-
shop was a hit! Chet
shared his story of building
a career he was passionate
about by working smart
and from the heart. Chet
involves all the students in
drumming by supplying
drums for all to use. Chet
owns the Rhythms Drum &
Dance Store in Bozeman.
Need medical help? Call
an EMT such as Kenneth
Threet. Ken explained his
career path as an EMT and
highlighted the satisfaction
and demands that come
from a career in the EMT
field. Ken demonstrated
the work of an EMT with a
display of all the equip-
ment needed and had ac-
tivities in the workshop.
Cowboy poet, TJ Casey,
entertained the students
with his western poetry
and songs. He entertained
but he also highlighted the
opportunities for a career in
the field of western music
and poetry. TJ writes, re-
cords and has a number of
CDs. He gave the students
a look at life in the music
industry while still living in
Montana.
This year’s CDC also in-
cluded Coordinated Chaos
activity, an ice cream social,
Talent Show, swimming
and the Awards Luncheon
on Wednesday to recognize
the competitive events win-
ning students.
21TH ANNUAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
May 2011
COORDINATED CHAOS This opening activity is a great ice-breaker and pro-vides students the opportu-nity to meet and mingle with others from different schools from around the state.
Coordinated Chaos is certainly the right name for the crazy mixed up series of team activities that has become increas-ingly popular at CDC.
Students are divided into 32 teams that have students from all different schools. The students are to work together to complete activi-ties at 8 different stations within a 10 minute time limit. Activities included Wordles, Charades in Mo-tion, Scavenger Hunt, Pro-fessional Pictionary, JMG Challenge, Landing the Per-fect Job, The Climbing Wall, and Team Roping.
