OBJECTIVES OF COMMUNITY BASED REHABILITATION (CBR) AND NON

GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION (NGO)

Before reveal the objectives of CBR and NGO, it is better to look at the definition of these two

organization. According to World Health Organization (WHO), Community based rehabilitation

(CBR) can be defined as a strategy within community development for the rehabilitation,

equalization of opportunities and social integration of all people with disabilities, CBR is

implemented through the combined efforts of the disabled person themselves, their families and

communities, and the appropriate health education, vocational and social service. While a non-

governmental organization (NGO) is any non-profit, voluntary citizens' group which is organized

on a local, national or international level. Task-oriented and driven by people with a common

interest, NGOs perform a variety of service and humanitarian functions, bring citizen concerns to

Governments, advocate and monitor policies and encourage political participation through

provision of information. Some are organized around specific issues, such as human rights,

environment or health. Both of these organization can give benefits to disabled people. Generally

these organization can maximally increase the quality of life of disabled people . Even though

they are disabled, but they are still human who always want the best in their life and have the

right to have a better life. Other than that these organization make community realize that

disabled people needs help from them. Sometimes people in community wants to give their help

to disabled but they do not know the way to do that. With these organization ,people will know

how to help the disabled people. These organization also will form the committee in particular 

area which the members comes from the professional circle, disabled¶s family members,

volunteer and local community in order to organize programs for disabled people. These

program not just to collect the donation, but the most important thing is disabled people will

have fun and enjoy in the program. Other than that these organization decrease the discrepancy

between community and the disabled people. Disabled people will not isolated from the

community especially with all the program that organized by these organization that bring

community and disabled people work together. Last but not least, these organization give

opportunity to disabled person to develop their skills and abilities according to their own

potency. Disabled person just like us, they have their own skills and without these organization

they do not have opportunity to show their skills and contribute to the industrial development in

this country.
