Digital Photography I- Skyline High School Object Photography Project http://skylinehsdigitalphotography1.blogspot.com/p/lesson-8-working-with-objects.html Now that you are comfortable with your camera and seeing composition like a photographer, it’s time to narrow your focus. That is, focus on a single object. Using point-of-view and the zoom feature of your camera, explore a single object visually. Think abstraction. In viewing your photos, we should still be able to recognize the object. However, surprise us with that different vantage point or ultra-closeup. To have a successful Project follow these guidelines: 1) Choose a single object or 2 different objects. Study it from all angles as if circling a sculpture. Examine things about it such as, the shape/form, surface textures, the character of light on its surface, its shadow – basically every detail you can see. Reflective objects have great variety in their surface quality. 2) You need to see the object. Make us see what you see. If you take a picture and it is not conveying what you want to show you may need to move away, angle differently or do another angle and come back. 3) Now study the object through your camera lens. How does the viewfinder crop the image of the object? Is it balanced symmetrically or asymmetrically? How does the Rule of Thirds apply? What happens when you zoom in or out? What is the background like and how does it affect the overall image? What happens to the image when you move up, down, left or right? You may shot them in color and/or black and white. 4) As you make your exposures, think about what you choose to have in or out of focus, how will colors translate into black, white & grays, how shadows and highlights affect the image. Will you focus on details? Will you focus on form? Will you focus on texture? Play with composition. Visually explore the object. 5) You need a total of 20 photos of which 10 are edited and 3 are dropped per approval. Save all 20 to your Objects Folder. Make sure to edit in iPhoto (adjust- definition, sharpness and or denoise). DUE DATE to be determined. Post top 3 to your Weebly. Please see Object Checklist and Artist Statement and turn in with the Digital Photography I Project Rubric and make sure to fill out Self Evaluation.
