Doris Erickson, 87, went home to be with her Lord and SaviorMonday, December 29, 2014, at Kittson Memorial NursingHome, Hallock, Minn. Doris was born August 30, 1927, inDeerwood Township, Kittson County. She was the middlechild and only daughter of Andrew and Alida (Skarp) Olson.

She moved into Karlstad, Minn. at the age of 10 years old intoa home built by her dad for her grandparents. Her parents starteda dairy and milk route and her first experience driving was in a ModelT delivering milk. While living in town, Doris parents took in manykids who needed a place to stay so that they could attend highschool.

They would help out to pay for room and board. Doris said itdidnt matter how many we were, there was always room forone more. Through this arrangement, one of these children becamemore like a brother to Doris and was part of the family. Dorisbabysat and worked at the local bakery and at her uncle DavidSkarps grocery store. When she was 18, David took her withhis family to California, a trip that she was able to make againat the age of 84 with her youngest granddaughter, Haylie.

On October 23, 1947, she married Luverne Gjovik. They livedin Karlstad, as well as Reynolds and Hankinson, N.D. while Luvernewas working in road construction. In 1949, they moved to LakeBronson. Four of their five children were born while theylived there. In 1962, the family moved to Hallock and shortlythereafter their last child was born. Besides raising her fivechildren, Doris helped Luverne in the Gulf Station, pumpinggas, running for parts and doing bookwork. Luverne passed awaysuddenly on February 10, 1978. In July of 1979, Doris beganto work at the Senior Meal program in Hallock and also workedpart-time for Johnson Oil as bookkeeper. During this time,Doris decided to take classes to get her GED and was proudto graduate in the spring of 1980.

On April 2, 1983 she married Alvin Erickson, Lake Bronson andshe began to work for the Senior Meal Program there.

Together they traveled to Branson, MO; Banff, Canada;Arizona; Arkansas and enjoyed playing cards and visitingwith family and friends. Doris especially loved making pancakesfor her children and grandchildren and would fry until everyonewas full. She enjoyed baking and would gladly make your favoritewhenever you asked. Alvin passed away August 22, 2009

and Doris moved to Kennedy to live with her daughter beforeentering several nursing facilities, but was so glad to finallybe home at the Kittson Memorial Nursing Home, where the staffwas her extended family. While at the home, she enjoyed workingon puzzles, making greeting cards to give to everyone and visitingwith the other residents trying to cheer them up or make theirday a little better. She also loved all the staff that gave her hugsor would visit with her.

If you were a part of her life, you were dearly loved by her; butno one more so than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren,who were always remembered still on their birthday with a card.

Doris will be greatly missed by her five children, Linda andPaul Anderson, Hallock, Minn; Lorie and Tom Etter, Stillwater,Minn.; Richard and Peggy Gjovik, Hallock, Minn; Ronaldand Twyla Gjovik, Williams, Minn.; and Margie and Steve Holmgren,Kennedy, Minn.; her two step-children, Jan and Myron Sele,Appleton, Wisc.; Jim and Linda Erickson, Hot Springs Village,Ark.; 11 grandchildren, Brady and Ivy Anderson, Grand Forks,N.D.; Lindsay Anderson, Fargo, N.D.; Jonathan and ShelleyEtter, Prescott, Wisc.; Stacy and Jason Voegele, Bismarck, N.D.;Kevin and Gwen Gjovik, Oslo, Minn.; Conrad Gjovik, GrandForks, N.D.; Benjamin and Danielle Gjovik, St. Francis, Minn.;Matthew and Shawna Gjovik, Bemidji, Minn.; Andrew andAmy Gjovik; Springfield, Minn.; Sam Holmgren (Morgan Halvorson)Newfolden, Minn.; Haylie and Adam Anderson, Kennedy,Minn.; and five step-grandchildren, Jeff and Angela Sele, Champlin,Minn.; Julie Sele, San Jose, Calif; Kari Martinson, Alexandria,Minn.; David Zolondek, St. Thomas, N.D.; Melanie Zolondek,Minneapolis, Minn. and 27 great-grandchildren. Sheis also survived by two brothers, Lawrence Olson, Braham, Minn.and Leonard and Betty Olson, Bradenton, Fla.; a brother-in-love,Wilbur and Dorothy Madsen, Prince George, BC, Canada;a cousin and sister by choice, Lorraine Bostrom, Hughson, Calif.;two sisters-in-law, Elaine Olson and Nancy Olson; cousins, niecesand nephews, and lots of special friends. She was preceded indeath by her two husbands, Luverne Gjovik and Alvin Erickson,two brothers, Gordon and Reynold Olson; two sisters-in-law,Mildred and Blanche Olson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2015, 2p.m. at Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy, Minn. with KathyLevenhagen, SAM presiding; Jillayne Kraska, soloist.Doris casket bearers will be her grandchildren. Visitation will

be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the springat Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock, Minn.
