LINCOLN — Charlene F. Bertram, 75, Lincoln, formerly of Stanford, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday (June 15, 2010) at her home.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Stanford Church of God, Stanford, with the Rev. Joe Magner officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home,

Atlanta. Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of the service Friday at the church. Burial will be in Brooks Grove Cemetery, rural Stanford.

Charlene Faye Bertram was born Sept. 23, 1934, in Heyworth, the daughter of Edgar and Lois Bishop Deatrick. She married Joel Thomas “J.T.” Bertram on Nov. 20, 1960. He preceded her in

death Feb. 16, 1988.

Surviving are her children, Audrey (Jim) Bertram, (Chasity, Emily Faye, Ashley, Ethan), Lincoln; Joel (Terry) Bertram (J.J., Maria), Paw Paw; and Pat (Chris) Lawyer (Donald, Katelyn),

Roachdale, Ind.; nephews, Jimmie Deatrick and Johnnie Deatrick; four brothers, Donald Deatrick, Heyworth; Paul Deatrick, Wapella; Roger Deatrick, LeRoy; and Delmar Deatrick,

Bloomington; and one sister, Margaret Spaulding, McLean. Also surviving are many more adopted grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

She was a member of the Stanford Church of God.

She loved all of her animals very much. The family wishes a special thank you to her best friend, Vicki.

James B. Bridgewater

STANFORD James B. Bridgewater, 69, of Stanford died at 7:54 a.m. Saturday (July 21, 2007) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

Jim was born Jan. 26, 1938, in Lincoln to Arnold and Mina Sloan Bridgewater.

He married Sandra Owen on Oct. 11, 1958, in Minier. She preceded him in death on April 6, 1994. Also preceding him in death was his father; one sister, Sheila; and one son-in-law, Mike

Bell.

Jim married Alma "Jean" Noble on May 3, 1996, in Bloomington. She survives. Also surviving is his mother, Mina Bridgewater of Lincoln; four daughters, Susie Bell of Stanford, Lisa (Bill)

Burger of Stanford, Jennifer Bridgewater of Bloomington, and Jody (John) Gaston of Waynesville; one son, Jimmy Bridgewater of Stanford; one stepson, Don (Kristin) Gamble of Normal; one

stepdaughter, Teresa (John) Fletcher of Normal; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie Bridgewater of Lincoln, and Nancy (Royce) Scales) of New Holland; one

brother, Arnold Bridgewater of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was a lineman for IBEW Local 51 for over 20 years. He later was a truck driver for Sloan Excavating for over 10 years. He was a member of the Stanford Sportsmen's Club, Minier Lions

Club, past director of Stanford ESDA and a part time police officer of Stanford.

His service will be at noon Wednesday at Davis-Haensel Funeral Home in Minier. The Rev. James Gilroy will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to service Wednesday at the funeral

home. Burial will be in Brooks Grove Cemetery in Stanford. Memorials may be made to Allin Township Rescue Squad.

He hascarvings on display in NationalWoodcarvers Museum in Colorado.

NORMAL - Bill E. Comerford, 64, of 2014 N. Lambert, Normal, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday (Feb. 8, 2008) at his residence.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home. The Rev. Carl King will officiate. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford. Visitation will be from

9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the memorial home. Kibler-Smith Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bill was born July 16, 1943, in Springfield, the Son of Lawrence Comerford and Geraldine King Comerford. He married Kaye Mowery Hollonbeck, Dec. 18, 1989, in Bloomington.

Bill is survived by wife, Kaye Comerford, Normal; daughter, Jill Franklin, Springfield; son, James (Michelle) Comerford, Parker, Colo.; stepsons, Chris (Stacey) Hollonbeck, Bloomington;

and David (Pam) Crain, Kentucky; a stepdaughter, Kathy (Jack) Overfelt, Bloomington; grandchildren, Cameron and Lilly Franklin, Elizabeth and Claire Commerford, Ashlyn and Meagan

Hollonbeck, Jenny and Kaylyn Nank, Bradyon and Alexis Overfelt, Tyler McWorter and Daniel Crain; a sister, Jerry Lynn (Charlie) Abbott, Dawson; sisters-in-Law, Marlene (Ken) Walker,

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Bill graduated from Griffin/Cathedral High School, Springfied, in 1961, Lincoln Land Community College, Springfield, in 1971, and Sangamon State University, Springfield, in 1974 with a BA

degree in economics.

He had worked as an agent for Prudential Insurance Co. and later did janitorial work at Eastland Mall, Bloomington. He was a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Springfield.

Bill was U.S. Marine veteran, serving from 1960 to 1963.

Paul W. Davis

ROANOKE - Paul W. Davis, 85, of 505 W. Prairie, Roanoke, died at 11:05 p.m. Sunday (July 15, 2007) at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke.

He was born Oct. 19, 1921, to George and Flo Dildine Davis in Douglas County, Illinois. He married Geneva Matthews on Feb. 21, 1940, in Bloomington. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sherry (Gary) Garber, Metamora, and Connie (John) Nafziger, Gahanna, Ohio; two sons, Danny (Diana) Davis, Roanoke, and Ron (Christa) Davis, LaMoille;

adopted children, Trudy Davis, Texas; Jeffery Davis, Eureka; and Matthew Davis, Roanoke; foster children, David and Debbie Leonard; two sisters, Thelma Becker, Stanford, and Virginia

Bonzer, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mildred Downing and Shirley Davis; and two brothers, Forrest Davis and Gerald Davis.

Paul was engaged in farming for a short time earlier in life. He served his country in during World War II by working in a defense, ammunition plant. In 1946, he purchased then operated

Wiley-Evans grocery in Stanford. He later designed and operated a feed mill and store. He operated that agri-business until 1968. Paul then worked as a district salesman for Honeggers feed

company for the next 11 years in Iowa and Michigan. In 1980, the Davis' returned to Illinois and made their home in Mason City where Paul established a woodworking shop. His

woodworking developed into specially designed furniture pieces. Paul retired in 2000 and moved to Roanoke.

Paul attended the Eureka Bible Church, where his funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Tom Swanson will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

Wednesday, both at the Eureka Bible Church. A 2 p.m. graveside service will be held in Allin Township Cemetery in Stanford. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke is in charge of

arrangements.

MINIER - Alta Leola Dickson, 93, Minier, died at 9:12 p.m. Wednesday (April 2, 2008) at Pekin Manor in Pekin.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Davis-Haensel Funeral Home, Minier. The Rev. Norv Condy will officiate. Burial will be in Brooks Grove Cemetery, rural Stanford.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Minier Christian Church or Minier Rescue Squad.

She was born April 16, 1914, in Stanford, daughter of James A. and Annis V. Webb Mallory. She married Raymond E. Dickson on Jan. 8, 1934, at Stanford. He died July 31, 1989.

Surviving are two sons, Earl (Sue) Dickson, Lillian, Ala., and Darrell E. (Helen McFeron) Dickson, Tremont; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Dickson was a homemaker and was head cook for the Armington school system for many years. She was a member of Minier Christian Church.

Florence I. Dickson

BLOOMINGTON - Florence I. Dickson, 79, of Alamo, Texas, formally of Bloomington, died Sept. 11, 2006, at Life Care Hospital, McAllen, Texas.

She was born in Doniphan, Neb., April 25, 1927, to Lewis Jacob Cole and Myrtle Olive Stamper Cole. She married William G. Dickson Sr. on Sept. 30, 1944.

Surviving are her husband; a sister, Irene Dyer, Granbury, Texas; children, Betty (Jerry) Glenn, St. Charles, Mo.; William-;G. Dickson Jr., El Paso; and Judy (Larry) Cawthon, Bloomington;

nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

She worked as a cook at Stanford Community Grade School for 10 years and Eureka Williams for 22 years. She enjoyed playing cards and singing.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 14 at Brooks Grove Cemetery in Stanford. Stanford Church of God will provide a meal for family and friends at the church following the service.

Family and friends then will gather at Judy's home.

Jacob H. Folkers

GRIDLEY - Jacob H. Folkers, 86, El Paso, formerly of Stanford, and Gridley, died at 5:38 p.m. Monday (March 17, 2008) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, El Paso.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, El Paso, with the Rev. Tim Smith officiating.

Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford, following the service.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.

Jake was born on July 29, 1921, in Minonk to Gehert and Elma Brucker Folkers. He married Thelma Brurer in 1946. He married Katherine Mowery in 1979. She died Jan. 10, 2000.

Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Folkers, El Paso; two grandsons, Michael Folkers, Roanoke, and Timm Folkers, Washburn; two great-grandsons, Tony and Taylor Folkers; and two

stepgrandchildren, Alycia and Jordan Stalter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert; and one daughter, Beverly.

Jake was a farmer. He enjoyed woodworking and working outdoors. He worked for Hohulin Fence Factory for a number of years before he retired.

STANFORD — JoAnn D. Foulk, 74, Stanford, died at 1:16 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 19, 2010) at her daughter Nancy’s residence in Bloomington.

A graveside inurnment service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford, with the Rev. Jim Gilroy officiating. There will be no visitation. Calvert & Metzler Memorial

Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF Hospice.

She was born May 17, 1936, at St. Paul, Minn., daughter of Frederick and Minnie Wilke Rambaum. She married Loren Foulk on May 19, 1956, at St. Paul, Minn. He died Jan. 13, 1991.

Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Foulk, Stanford; and Nancy (Ed) Fleming and Debbie (Rick) Fairand, both of Bloomington; six grandchildren, Cory Foulk, Justin Evans, Amber and

Ashley Fleming, and Lauren and Melissa Fairand; great-grandson, Bryce Fleming; and a sister, Marcella Rambaum, West St. Paul, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and five sisters.

Mrs. Foulk was of the Lutheran faith.

She had worked at Eureka-Williams Co., Bloomington, for 33 years prior to retirement.

The family would like to thank Ann Foulk, Delmar and Shirley Deterts and Norma and Fred Lind for all the love and support we have received.

A special thank you to Ed Fleming for everything you have done and also thank you to Dr. Sawicki, the OSF Hospice nurses and aides for all of your loving care and support through this

NORMAL - Claire Mae Frahm, 98, of McLean County Nursing Home, formerly of Stanford, died at 3:02 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 28, 2006) at McLean County Nursing Home in Normal.

A graveside service for family only will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford, with the Rev. James Gilroy officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford.

There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McLean County Nursing Home or Stanford Rescue Squad. Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of

arrangements.

She was born March 22, 1907, in Stanford, to Shelby and Harriet Jones Brown. She married Robert Foulk on Sept. 23, 1926. He is deceased. She later married to Henry Frahm on Dec. 23,

1984. He is also deceased. He is survived by Dayton (Marg) Frahm, Imogene (Willie) Foreman, Edith Baylis and Ila Lorenz.

Also surviving are two daughters, Norma (Fred) Lind, Bloomington and Shirley (Delmer) Deterts, Stanford; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Loren Foulk and Lloyd Foulk; one daughter, Evelyn Joyce Foulk; one brother; and three sisters.

She was affiliated with Church of God in Stanford.

She was employed by Morton Pottery in Morton.

Claire showed compassion, extreme love and a never ending patience to all of her children, grandchildren and extended family.

Carroll Gee Sr.

ARMINGTON — Carroll E. Gee Sr., 78, rural Armington, formerly of Bloomington, died at 12:15 p.m. Monday (June 14, 2010) at his residence of 40 years.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Stanford Church of God, Stanford, with the Rev. Joe Magner officiating. Burial will follow at Brooks Grove Cemetery, Stanford. Visitation will

be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with Masonic funeral rites at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Stanford Church of God.

Carroll was born Nov. 19, 1931, at Makanda, a son of Orlan and Grace Reams Gee. He married Betty Jane Lovins of Holder on Oct. 7, 1951, at Osceola, Ark. Betty Jane survives.

Also surviving are his children, E. Janette (Larry) Moore, Stanford; Carroll E. “Chris” Gee Jr., Shawnee; Diann (Ron) Knipp, Bloomington; and Krystal (Chris) Prince, Stanford; six

grandchildren, Angie (fiance Forrest Havron) Gaddy, Amanda (Scott) Utley, Charles “Chip” (Jenny) Denham Jr., Chad (Gie) Denham, Jennifer Shay and Christopher (Amanda) Prince; 12

great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Gee, Buncombe; a sister, Ruth Lipe, Carbondale; many nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.

His parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

Carroll was a member and formerly served on the board of the Stanford Church of God. He was a member and past master of Heyworth Lodge 215 AF&AM. He served as master of the lodge

five times and was currently junior warden. He was also a member of the Bloomington Scottish Rite Bodies and Stanford Sportsman Club.

He formerly worked for Capodice Produce Co., Bloomington, for 14 years; as a security guard for Bridgestone Firestone in Normal for three years; and most recently for the Bloomington-

Normal Water Reclamation District for 28 years, retiring in 1991.

Carroll’s hobbies included fishing, gardening and doing anything Betty Jane wanted him to do. He dearly loved his family and never met a stranger.

He also enjoyed bluegrass and country music events and was known as a prankster and big tease.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Davis-Haensel Funeral Home, Minier. The Rev. Joe Mamenga will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Mount

Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford.

Memorials may be made to Shirley Christian Church Building Fund.

Hester was born Nov. 26, 1917, in Stanford, to James and Kate Helton Reubin. She married Miley Michael Gilroy. He preceded her in death. She later married Fred Norman. He preceded her

in death. She then married Burl K. Thompson. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Hester is survived by one son, M. James (Awanda) Gilroy, Stanford; two grandchildren, Brian (Becky) Gilroy and Becky (Brett) Knisley; and six great-grandchildren, Ori, Zane, Kheelyn,

Raiden, Noah and RuthAnne.

Hester was the village clerk in Stanford for 33 years. She was the Pantagraph reporter in Stanford and the treasurer at the Stanford Christian Church, of which she remained a member until her

death.

Eva Henderson

MINIER — Eva Aileen Henderson, 93, of Minier died Saturday (March 13, 2010) at Hopedale Nursing Home.

Her funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minier Christian Church, with the Rev. Norv Condy officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford. Visitation will be from 10

to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the church. Davis-Haensel Funeral Home, Minier, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Minier Rescue Squad or Minier Christian Church.

She was born Oct. 7, 1916, in Heyworth, to Jesse and Ferne D. Hougham Perry. She married James Newell Henderson on Dec. 21, 1941, in Chenoa. He preceded her in death April 2, 2005.

Survivors include one daughter, Juanita (Harvey) Petty, Goodfield; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; four great-great-

grandchildren; and one sister, Cleo (Bill) Leggett, Clinton.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Helen; and one brother, Edwin.

Eva graduated from Illinois State Normal University in 1937. She then taught in rural schools in McLean County.

She attended Minier Christian Church.

Her funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Mickey Fuson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at the memorial home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Humane Society of Central Illinois in memory of Minnie and her

She was born March 23, 1932, in Stanford, a daughter of Charlie and Cleo Hulvey Allen. She married Donald R. Hurst on Oct. 28, 1977, in Twin Grove. He died Nov. 11, 1997.

She is survived by a son, Fred (Alice) Alsene, Bloomington; daughter, Sherry (Steven) Mitoraj, Channahon; three grandchildren, Bill (Elizabeth) Alsene, Scott Alsene and Jeremy (Ann)

Mitoraj; and one sister, Mabel (Wally) Crouch, Normal.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

BLOOMINGTON - Kenneth R. Imig, 94, Bloomington, died at 12:28 p.m. Tuesday (July 3, 2007) at Martin Health Center, Bloomington.

His funeral and Masonic service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Roane Deckert officiating. Burial will be in Mount

Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kemmerer Village or Shriner's Children's Hospital.

Kenneth was born Jan. 30, 1913, in Stanford, to the late Otto and Emma Habecker Imig. He was raised on his parents' farm and graduated from Stanford High School in 1930. He attended the

University of Illinois, graduating in 1936, and married Ruth Oehler, also of Stanford, on July 15 of that same year.

Mr. Imig taught grade school in Stanford from 1933 to 1935. He taught vocational agriculture in Scottland, Ill.; Kansas, Ill.; and Danvers from 1936 until 1943, when he and Ruth moved to

Watseka, and where he became the assistant farm advisor for Iroquois County.

In 1945 he was named Iroquois County farm advisor, at that time the youngest person ever selected as a farm advisor in Illinois. He retained that position, which included one year as president

of the Illinois Farm Advisors Association, until his retirement in 1972.

He was instrumental in founding the Watseka First National Bank, as well as the Thomas Jefferson Life Insurance Co. in Champaign and served on their boards of directors for many years.

While in Watseka, Kenneth and Ruth were members of First Presbyterian Church. Kenneth was also a 50-year Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Watseka Kiwanis Club and a member of the

University of Illinois' President's Council.

In Bloomington, he was affiliated with Second Presbyterian Church. His hobbies included photography and traveling with Ruth, who passed away in 1998.

Kenneth is survived by his son, Bruce (Susan), Springfield; four grandchildren, Stacie (Kevin) Kloosterman, Sycamore; Eric (Tami) Roeder, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Benjamin (Ann) Imig,

Madison, Wis.; and Joshua (Monica) Imig, Port Orange, Fla.; and six great-grandchildren, Anna, Tommy, John, Zachary, Elliott and Max. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter,

Jane Balvin; and his brother, Dayton.

NORMAL - Rose M. Jepsen, 95, Normal, formerly of Bloomington and Stanford, died at 1:05 p.m. Sunday (June 7, 2009) at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, with interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford, with Father Julius Turya Torauwa officiating. Visitation will

be two hours prior to the service. Memorial gifts may be made to Epiphany Catholic Church or McLean County Nursing Home.

She was born March 27, 1914, in Chicago, a daughter of Peter Fillippone and Catherine Perri Fillippone. She married William Jepsen Sr. on Aug. 4, 1934, in Bloomington. He died July 19,

1989.

She is survived by four children, William Jepsen Jr., Lexington; Marilyn Ehrlich, West Lafayette, Ind.; Betty (Frank) Franklin, Chatsworth; and Bob Jepsen, Downs; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-

grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

She attended Epiphany Catholic Church in Normal.

Rose retired from Deluxe Check Printers in 1988. She also worked for GE in the cafeteria for 18 years and was a cook for several years at a fraternity.

Rose enjoyed cooking, playing bingo and visiting with her family. She will be sadly missed by all her family.

STANFORD - Matthew James Masters, 31, of Stanford, died at 6:31 a.m. Friday (Nov. 9, 2007) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

He was born Sept. 25, 1976, in Bloomington to Lyle and Mary Faye Wilson Masters.

Survivors include the love of his life, Brianne Crawford, Minier; his mother, Mary Faye Masters, Stanford; his father and stepmother, Lyle and Cindy Masters, Stanford; two sons, Aiden

Matthew and Logan James Masters, and their mother, Michelle Bethel, all of Heyworth; five brothers, Jeff (Julie) Gaither, Stanford; Tom (Denise) Gaither, Woodlawn; Joe (Becky) Gaither,

Stanford; John (Shannon) Masters, Bloomington; and Joe Skelley, Olympia, Wash.; three sisters, Molly (Chris) Alexander, Mount Prospect, Natalie Chambers, San Angelo, Texas; and Katie

Chambers, Stanford; his grandparents, Lois Wilson, Minier; and Dorlores Smith and Louis Masters, both of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather.

Matthew was employed by Stanford Grain Co., where he enjoyed working with fellow employees and farmers. He loved singing karaoke, writing poetry, cooking and fishing. His sons were

the light of his life and he was a wonderful father, son, brother, friend and companion. He loved life, lived it to the fullest, and will be greatly missed.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Minier Christian Church. The Rev. Norv Condy and the Rev. Andy Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church.

Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford.

MINIER - Charles H. Meridith Jr., 85, of Minier died at 9:05 a.m. Saturday (May 19, 2007) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

Charles was born March 3, 1922, in Maynard, Ark., to Charles and Lena Mae Sammons Meridith Sr. He married Wilma E. Marlett on Jan. 8, 1946, in Corning, Ark. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Dale (Pat) Meridith of Danvers, Lynn Meridith of Minier, and Michael (Lois) Meridith of McLean; two daughters, Connie Meridith of Bloomington, and Bonnie

(Cal) Williams of Hopedale; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn Meridith and Norman (Carolyn) Meridith, both of Maynard, Ark.; five sisters, Velma Marlett of

Bloomington, Leola Bland, Glenna (Dean) Cox and Erma (Ervin) McDougle of Maynard, Ark., and Gana (Carl) Frier of Pocahontas, Ark.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Charles was a farmer. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was a member of the Minier American Legion Post 448.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Davis-Haensel Funeral Home in Minier. The Rev. John Horner will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial

STANFORD — George A. Middleton, 57, of Stanford died Thursday (June 24, 2010) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

George was born May 17, 1953, in Bloomington to George G. and Ruth D. Cochran Middleton. George was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Alfred; and his grandparents, Albert

and Ruth Cochran of Minier and Luther and Maydell Middleton of Cave City, Ky.

George is survived by his mother, Ruth D. Babbs, and stepfather, Robert of Stanford; two brothers, Robert and Larry Middleton, both of Stanford; three sisters, Nancy Middleton of Stanford,

Karla Hedrick of Minier and Tricia Middleton of Danvers; six nieces and nephews, Gloria, Zachary, Jessica, Jessie, David and his favorite niece and buddy, Miranda Knops; and one

stepsister, Lori Babbs of Georgia.

George was an Army veteran, serving in Vietnam. He was a member of Minier American Legion Post 448 and Disabled American Veterans.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Davis-Haensel Funeral Home in Minier. The Rev. Joe Magner will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.

On Monday evening, June 21, 2010, George miraculously gave his heart and soul over to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Afterwards he expressed his longing to see Granny and “Uncle”

Eddie Smith. He’s now safe at our heavenly home visiting with Granny and perhaps “going fishing” with “Uncle Ed.”

NORMAL - Alice L. Miller, 89, of Normal, died at 4:15 a.m. Sunday (April 1, 2007) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal. Her family was present.

Alice was born July 23, 1917, in Kinmundy, a daughter of John M. Bass and Arad "Raddie" Howell Bass. She married Lee L. Miller on Sept. 4, 1937, in Williamsport, Ind. He survives.

Also surviving are one son, Donald L. (Carol) Miller, Lexington; one daughter, Doris E. Miller, Normal; two granddaughters, Amy L. (Thom) Jones, Downs, and Penny J. Miller, Towanda;

one great-grandson, Seaman Jason J. Repaal; and one great-great-grandson, Adam J. Repaal, both of Michigan.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond M. Bass; and three sisters, Helen O. Brooks, Dorothy P. Price and Clella Bass.

Alice was a member of University Christian Church, Normal, and was one of their first female elders. She was also a member of the church choir and a deaconess; CWF; Church Women

United; Normal Homemakers Extension; and the Normal Women's Improvement League.

She will always be remembered for her quick wit and for the love she had for her family. Alice will be deeply missed by those who loved her.

MORTON - Doris Virginia Miller, 91, of Morton, formerly of Pekin and Stanford, passed away at 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 17, 2006) at Apostolic Christian Restmor at Morton.

NORMAL — Lee L. Miller, 96, Normal, passed away at 1:27 p.m. on Wednesday (March 10, 2010) at Meadows Mennonite Home in Chenoa, with his family at his side.

A private family service will be held with burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Renucci Hospitality House, Helen Devos Children’s

Hospital, 100 Michigan St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503, in his memory. Kibler-Smith Memorial Home, Bloomington, handled arrangements.

Lee was born May 22, 1913, at Advance, Mo., a son of Jasper Lewis Miller and Martha Louise Griffith Miller. He married Alice L. Bass on Sept. 4, 1937, at Williamsport, Ind. She preceded

him in death on April 1, 2007, after 69 years of marriage.

Lee worked at Williams Oil-A-Matic and Illinois Power Co. for 36 years as a service man and lineman, retiring in 1976. He belonged to the Bloomington Township Fire Department as a

volunteer and was a member of the Illinois Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; the former University Christian Church for over 50 years; and Centennial Christian Church in Bloomington.

Surviving are two children, a son, Donald L. (Carol A.) Miller, Lexington, and a daughter, Doris E. Miller, Normal; two grandchildren, Amy Lou (Thom) Jones, Bloomington, and Penny Jane

Miller, Towanda; a great-grandson, Jason J. (Ashley) Repaal, Michigan; and a great-great-grandson, Adam J. Repaal. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and an

infant sister.

Lee loved to hunt pheasants and deer; fish with friends; and talk about his boyhood in southern Illinois and Missouri and living through the Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression. He was

one of the best, uncomplaining, good natured father, grandfather, great- and great-great-grandfathers and will be dearly missed by all of those who loved him and were privileged to know him.

She was a member of of Stanford Church of God. She was one of the founding board members of the MCEOC, also known as Community Action; Union steward for AFSCME Local 1110 ISU

Employee Union; an officer for the AFSCME Retiree Program Sub Chapter 79; and the Red Hat Society.

She liked to knit and crochet. She was an avid reader and loved the outdoors. She loved music, attending the Gospel Opera, and genealogy.

Pauline lived for her kids and grandkids, and will be missed by many.

WASHINGTON - Dorothy Jane Miner, 97, Washington, and formerly of Des Plaines, died at 2:10 a.m. Monday (Sept. 17, 2007) at Washington Christian Village, Washington.

Born Aug. 10, 1910, in Stanford, daughter of Walter Grant and Mary Francis Britch Trott, she married Roy Edwin Miner on Nov. 20, 1932. He died July 18, 1954, in Syracuse, Neb.

Surviving are one son, Richard (Sue) Miner, Washington; three grandchildren, Roy Edwin Miner, Washington; Robin (Doug) Wort, Bloomington; and Rhonda (Dave) Gile, Raleigh, N.C.; and

five great-grandchildren, Cale, Crayton, Carlyne, Jacquelyn and Justine.

She was preceded in death by four sisters.

She was a secretary for Precision Instrument, a division of Snap-on Tools, in Des Plaines, for over 25 years.

She was a member of the Methodist church and the Home Sweet Home Mission in Bloomington.

Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Deiters Funeral Home, Washington. The Rev. Jim Gorby will officiate. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford.

NORMAL — Esther A. Morton, 73, of Normal passed away Saturday (June 19, 2010) at Heritage Manor, Bloomington, after a nine-year battle with polycystic kidney disease.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home, Bloomington. Her funeral will be at noon Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kathy Otto officiating.

Interment will be in Brooks Grove Cemetery, Stanford. Memorials may be made to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation or to Faith In Action. Kibler-Smith Memorial Home handled

arrangements.

Esther was born Sept. 27, 1936, in Sherrodsville, Ohio, a daughter of David and Velma Cattrell Gamble. She was a 1954 graduate of the former Sherrodsville High School, Ohio. Esther

retired from Eurest Bloomington in 2001 after 15 years of service. She was awarded Employee of the Year twice while employed at Eurest. Prior to working for Eurest, Esther worked for

Illinois State University Food Service for 10 years.

While her children were young and growing up, Esther devoted her time to raising her family and working as a homemaker. She was an avid reader and loved novels by Louis La’Mour,

Dorothy Garlock and James Herriot. Esther enjoyed watching westerns on TV, especially John Wayne movies. She also enjoyed “The Food Network.” Esther loved to go out to eat and a “real”

cup of coffee with cream was her favorite drink. Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. Esther was the best mother and grandmother that anyone could ever have and we will

miss her always. She was a fighter, a hard worker and a great person.

Esther is survived by two children, David (Kendra) Morton, Stanford, and Debbie (Ron) DeMont, Normal; three grandchildren, Alex DeMont and Chloe and McKenna Morton; a half-sister,

Sue Hodge, Bolivar, Ohio; a half-brother, David Gamble, Dellroy, Ohio; and one sister, Donna (Louis) Hodge, Hudson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Virginia Imes and Isabelle Elliot; and one brother, Donald Gamble.

His funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Stanford, with the Rev. Dave Jassman officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford, with military

honors by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion honor guard. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Stanford Fire and Rescue Squad, the American Parkinson Disease Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Marion was born May 5, 1947, at Bloomington, the son of Carol S. and Bernice Ackerson Nafziger. He married Cindy R. Thompson on March 18, 1972, at Stanford. Cindy survives.

Also surviving are his children, Matthew (Kiana) Nafziger, Mackinaw; Mark (Kari) Nafziger, Rochester; Emily Nafziger, Champaign; and Martin Nafziger, Stanford; grandchildren, Shelby,

Jacob and Jadon Nafziger, and Ryan and Lauren Nafziger; and a cousin, considered a “brother,” Bart (Ginny) Needles, McLean.

His parents preceded him in death.

Marion was a member of First Christian Church, Stanford, the McLean County Antique Car Club, Twin City Cruisers, Heart of Illinois GTO Club and Kickapoo Muzzleloaders. He formerly

served on the Allin Township board of trustees, Allin Township Fire and Rescue Department and Allin Township Cemetery District board. He was Stanford historian

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

Marion worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. in East Peoria for 32 years prior to retirement.

STANFORD — Norlan P. Nafziger, 88, formerly of Stanford, more recently of Normal, died at 3:29 p.m. Friday (June 18, 2010) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.

A private family graveside service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford. There will be no visitation. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of

arrangements.

He was born June 18, 1922, in Stanford, a son of Christian Pierce and Mabel Murphy Nafziger. He married Phyllis Elaine Henderson on Dec. 12, 1953, in Stanford. She died Sept. 1, 2007.

Surviving are his children, Bruce (Becky) Nafziger, Normal; Diane Nafziger, Indianapolis; Linda (O.C.) Ferrell, Albuquerque, N.M.; Craig (Lisa) Nafziger, Stanford; Karen Nafziger, Normal;

Mark Nafziger, Springfield; Keith (Sherilyn) Nafziger, Hesston, Kan.; and Brett Nafziger, Bloomington; a granddaughter, Kirsten Nafziger; two sisters, Zoe Iutzi, Normal, and Eda Willis,

Tulsa, Okla.; and a brother, Kenneth Nafziger, Hopedale.

Norlan farmed in the Stanford area during his working years.

STANFORD - Phyllis Elaine Nafziger, 79, of Stanford, died 3:35 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 1, 2007) at ManorCare Health Services, Normal.

Private family burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford. There will be no visitation. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis was born Nov. 30, 1927, in Stanford, a daughter of Lee R. and Nellie Griesemer Henderson. She married Norlan P. Nafziger on Dec. 12, 1953 in Stanford. He survives.

COVELL - Sarah G. Nichols, 90, of Covell died at 6:02 a.m. Friday (March 30, 2007) at Hopedale Hospital.

Sarah was born Aug. 31, 1916, in Waynesville to William and Grace Hayen Williams. She married Edward E. Nichols on April 15, 1935, in Dewitt County. He preceded her in death. Also

preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Sarah is survived by one daughter, Lenora (Raymond) Glenn of Mission, Texas; two sons, Alan (Elsie) Nichols of Morton and Richard (Kay) Nichols of Shirley; eight grandchildren; 19 great-

grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Sarah had worked as a file clerk at State Farm, retiring in 1981. She was a member of First Christian Church in Stanford and had been a member of McLean County HCE.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Stanford. Pastor Dave Jassman will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Davis-Haensel Funeral Home

in Minier. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Stanford.

SHIRLEY - Judith J. "Judy" Niepagen, 66, Shirley, died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday (April 16, 2006) at ManorCare Health Services, Normal.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home, Bloomington. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pastor James Gilroy of the Shirley

Christian Church will officiate. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford. Those desiring may make memorials to the family in Judy's memory.

Judy was born Sept. 20, 1939, in Bloomington, a daughter of Arthur and Vera Larison Schreiber. She was a lifelong resident of the Bloomington-Normal and Shirley area. Judy was a member

of the Shirley Christian Church, a country music fan and enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Judy is survived by three children, Lori (Kevin) Bryant, Shirley; Stanley Niepagen, Kankakee; and Lisa Niepagen, Bloomington; mother, Vera Thiebaud, Shirley; sister, Jeri (George) McGee,

Shirley; brother, Steven (Miriam) Schreiber, Bloomington; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Her family would also like to recognize and thank their dear friends and Judy's caregivers, Chris and Dawn Harris, who gave freely of themselves in caring for and loving Judy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Schreiber; a daughter, Linda Rash; and a grandson, James G. Rash II.

MINIER — Melvin “Junior” Owen Jr., 75, Minier, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2011) at Asta Care Center, Bloomington.

His graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Brooks Grove Cemetery, Stanford. The Rev. Norv Condy will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Haensel Funeral Home, Minier. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be

made in memory of Junior to Minier Rescue Squad.

Junior was born Dec. 19, 1935, in Minier, son of Melvin and Esther Dellit Owen Sr. They preceded him in death.

Junior is survived by five sisters, Wanda Owen, Minier; Sue (Doug) Merritt, Palm Springs, Fla.; Dora (Don) Helms, Zelwood, Fla.;

Mary (Bob) Graber, Minier; and Vicki (Bill) Wilken, Bloomington; one brother, Bill (Karen) Owen, Bloomington; and several

nieces and nephews.

Junior was a member of Stanford Sportsman Club. His favorite pastime was fishing. Junior never met a stranger. He had worked for

several farmers in the Minier area.

NORMAL - Thelma E. Petersen, 88, of 901 N. Main St., Normal, formerly of Bloomington, died 3:02 a.m. Friday (May 25, 2007) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Thelma was born June 10, 1918, in Gentryville, Ind., the daughter of Jesse Clinton Ellis and Stella Malinda Brown Ellis. She married Everett "Pete" Petersen on June 27, 1937, in Carlock. He

died Jan. 2, 2001.

Thelma is survived by two daughters, Kay (Joe) Knuth, Park Rapids, Minn., and Sue (Steve) Koppenhoefer, Seneca; seven grandchildren, Melinda Brouillette, Bloomington; Lisa

Koppenhoefer, Naperville; Joel Koppenhoefer, Mark Koppenhoefer and Megan Koppenhoefer, all of Chicago; Krista (Paul) Grethey, Morton; and Ben Koppenhoefer, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.;

and six great-grandchildren, Sheena McCuiston; Cote, Sheree and Dakota Brouillette; and Chase and Jake Grethey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Delmar Ellis; and one sister, Bette Crutchley.

She graduated from Wapella High School in 1937.

She retired from Chadbands Jewelry Store after working their for 40 years as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Bloomington; member of the Charter Chapter

of American Business Women's Association; and was a former ABWA Business Woman of the Year.

Duane Lee Sampen

DELAVAN - Duane Lee Sampen, 72, of Delavan, passed away at 4:08 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 4, 2009) at his home.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Delavan United Methodist Church. The Rev. Larry Moreau will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Stanford where military

rites will be conducted by his legion post. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, also at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Delavan

United Methodist Church.

He was born on Aug. 25, 1936, in Lincoln, to Hiram and Edna Klockenga Sampen. He married Eleanor Howe on Aug. 5, 1956, in Delavan, and she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Beth (Doug) Zimmer, Delavan; one son, Phillip Sampen, both of Delavan; three grandchildren, Jordan, Brady and Maddison Zimmer, all of Delavan; one

sister-in-law, Mary (Jerry) Howard, Delavan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He moved from Emden to Delavan in 1941. He graduated from Delavan High School in 1954 and from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1959. Duane was drafted into the U.S. Army in October

1959. He served in Korea from 1960- 1961 and returned to the states, serving at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., until he was discharged in 1962.

He was employed at the Tazewell County National Bank in Delavan, retiring as CEO in 1993. He was presently involved with Minier Community Bank, a division of Morton Community Bank,

and worked part time at the Davis Mortuary in Delavan. He was a member of the Delavan United Methodist Church, Delavan American Legion Post 382, Delavan Masonic Lodge 156, Delavan

Historical Society and was a past member of the Delavan Rotary Club.

He was an avid Cardinals fan and liked to play cards. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in various sporting events. He and his wife also escorted bank bus trips and

cruises across the United States.

NORMAL - Katheryn Maxine Schulte, 79, Meadows Mennonite Nursing Home, Meadows, formerly of Normal, passed away at 9:50 a.m. Monday (Dec. 22, 2008) at BroMenn Regional

Medical Center, Normal.

Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Dennis Pritchard officiating. She was cremated. A graveside

service will be at noon Saturday in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's

Association.

Katheryn was born July 14, 1929, in Monmouth, the daughter of Henry and Katheryn Watson Adams. She married George Robert "Bob" Bishop in Monmouth in December 1946. She later

married Herman "Sandy" Schulte on Nov. 4, 1954.

She is survived by her daughter, Terrial "Terry" (Jonathan) Schulte Hulvey, Atlanta; two grandchildren, Tammy (Valerie) Peasley, Normal, and Billee (Larry) Garland; one great-grandson,

Dakota Garland, McLean; one sister, Alice Brakeville; nephew, Jim (Luanne) Brakeville and family; one niece, Lucinda Brakeville, all of Monmouth.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother-in-law, Truman Brakeville.

Katheryn graduated from Monmouth High School in 1947. She then graduated from LPN nurses training in June 1965. She worked at BroMenn Regional Medical Center as a surgical nurse and

helped the E.N.T. doctors as their nurse. Katheryn retired from BroMenn after 39 years in 2003. She was a member of Centennial Christian Church, Bloomington.

Katheryn will be greatly missed by her family and always in their hearts.

Alice Eileen Sequeira

BLOOMINGTON — Alice Eileen Sequeira, 83, of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully at 5 a.m. on Tuesday (Aug. 22, 2006).

She was born on Aug. 9, 1923, on the family farm near Covell to John Leo and Lola Mae Otto Morris. She grew up on the farm with her twin sister, Elaine, and her brother, George. After the

death of her father in 1935, the family moved to Bloomington, where she graduated from Bloomington High School and attended Illinois State Normal University. She married Leforne Sequeira

Sept. 1, 1946, at Bloomington. Eileen was a wonderful mother and devoted wife. She was a member of First Church of Christ Science, Bloomington.

She is survived by her husband, Leforne; her sister, Mary Elaine Moreland of St. Louis, Mo.; her children, Margaret (Drake) Whitchurch of Inverness, Fla.; Laura (Bill Eisentraut) Sequeira of

Madison, Wis.; and Marc (Carolyn) Sequeira of Marion; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and one grandchild.

Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, Pastor Jim Smiley officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford. Visitation will be 9 to

10:30 a.m. Saturday at the memorial home.

STANFORD - Robert E. "Eddie" Smith, 83, of Stanford, died at 7 p.m. Sunday (April 5, 2009) at Asta Care Center of Bloomington.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford, Pastor Larry Cravens officiating. Military honors will be given by Carl S. Martin Post 635 Honor

Guard, Normal, American Legion. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's or Illinois Heart and Lung Association.

He was born April 25, 1925, at Mackinaw, to Charlie and Stella Miller Smith. He married Hallie D. Bratcher Phelps in in Bloomington. She passed away July 14, 1986.

Surviving are his children, Douglas E. (Patricia) Smith and Gregory C. (Jo Beth) Smith, both of Stanford; and Judith C. (Dennis) Dougherty, Bloomington; stepchildren, LaVonne (Stan)

McCombs, Pekin, and Roger (Doris) Phelps, Sun City, Ariz.; brother, Vernon (Margie) Smith, East Moline; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one stepson, eight brothers, two sisters and one grandson.

He served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a laborer for Local Labor Hall 362.

Eddie was a member of the American Legion in Stanford and Bloomington. He was a Golden Gloves Boxer in the Navy. He enjoyed watching boxing and basketball and doing yard work.

Eddie will be missed by his many friends and family. The family would also like to invite his friends and family to a celebration of life luncheon following the service at the Stanford Township

Hall.

Beatrice Sumner

STANFORD - Beatrice Sumner, 98, of Stanford passed away at 3:40 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 18, 2008) at her residence.

She was born Oct. 15, 1910, in Nancy, Ky., to Virgil and Doretta Morris Doss. She married Caleb Sumner in 1928 in Illinois. He passed away in June of 1992 in Bloomington. She was also

preceded in death by three sons, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include one daughter, Christine Smith of Stanford; three grandsons, P. Jack Smith of Stanford, James D. Sumner of Stanford, and Jeffrey D. Sumner of Peoria; eight great-

grandchildren, Caleb, Charlie, Alexis, Josh, Cole, Taryn, Jessie and Emily; and two sisters, Dorothy Valandingham of LeRoy, and Edith Weaver of Van Buren, Ark.

Beatrice was a homemaker, and devoted her entire life to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her entire family.

Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation or services. Private burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Stanford, at a later date. East Lawn Funeral Home in

Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.

STANFORD - Merlin Eugene "Gene" Tyner, 85, of 3354 E 800 North Road, Stanford, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2008) at his residence.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, rural McLean, with the Rev. Rob Roy and Larry Riddle officiating. Inurnment with military honors

will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.

Memorials may be made to the Allin Township Rescue Squad or Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

He was born Jan. 3, 1923, at Bloomington, son of Ora Thomas and Alma Otto Tyner. He married Frances Bain on June 9, 1946, at Bloomington. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Martha Tyner, Stanford, and Mary Lou Lael, Ashland; a daughter-in-law, Deborah (Denny) Deterding, Bloomington; a grandson, Joe Tyner, Bloomington; a

granddaughter-in-law, Tracy Tyner, Bloomington; and great-grandchildren, Coty and Taylor Tyner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas E. Tyner; and son-in-law, John Lael.

Gene was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, being stationed in England. He was an airplane engine mechanic crew chief, and attained the rank of staff sergeant.

Gene spent his lifetime farming in the Stanford area on ground his family has owned since 1861. He served as swine superintendent at the McLean County Fair for 10 years and was a charter

member of the Illinois Paint Horse Association.

He was a leader, among others, in starting the Allin Township Rescue Squad and served his community for many years as an election judge, Allin Township clerk and was an active member in

the Stanford Lions Club.

For 20 years he owned and operated the Minier Econ-O-Wash and participated in the Minier Businessmen's Association, serving many years as marshall of their Christmas parade.

Gene was devoted to his family and many friends. The Tyner home was always open and friends were counted as members of the family.

She was born Oct. 8, 1914, in Stanford to Harry Kampf and Beulah Wright Murphy. She married George W. White on Nov. 26, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1984.

Survivors include a son, Tom W. (Jane) White of New Berlin, Wis.; two grandsons, Dr. Douglas W. White of Webster Groves, Mo., and Gregory C. White of Dousman, Wis.; two

step-grandsons; one step-granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Naomi Botts.

She was a teacher and homemaker and was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Stanford and Sullivan. She taught business at Lexington and Sullivan High Schools and English

at Sullivan Junior High School. She was a member of the Sullivan Jr. Women's Club, the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Sullivan Country Club. She was an active bridge

player and belonged to several such clubs.

BLOOMINGTON — Esther J. Wirrick, 93, Bloomington, died at 8:18 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 5, 2010) at Heritage Manor, Bloomington.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Richard Gray officiating. Private family interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in

Stanford. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Bloomington.

She was born May 2, 1917, at Peoria, daughter of William H. and Hilda Chandler Allen. She married John K. Wirrick on May 25, 1955, at Pekin. John passed away Feb. 3, 1980.

Surviving are daughter, Delores (James) Benjey, Bloomington; son, William E. (Betty) Dodge, Stanford; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Her parents, two grandsons, one great-grandson, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death.

Esther was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Bloomington. She worked as a clerk at Pantagraph Printing for 27 years, retiring in 1974.

There will be no services. Cremation rites were accorded, with inurnment to be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stanford. Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her children, Barbara Jo Mounts, La Mesa, Calif.; Beverly B. Zurkammer, Atlanta; and David L. Wirrick, Hastings, Neb. Also surviving are six grandchildren and 15 great-

grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Wirrick, of 47 years; their daughter, Nancy L. Wirrick; and her brother, James D. Sykes.

She was born July 20, 1926, in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of James W. Sykes and Vivian Miller Sykes.

She was a past member of American Business Women’s Association and current member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She also volunteered at various organizations in

Bloomington.
