What is OBI Apps

• Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) Applications are complete, prebuilt BI solutions.

• Deliver intuitive, role-based intelligence throughout an organization. • Enable organizations to gain more insight and greater value from a range

of data sources and applications including Oracle E Business Suite, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, Siebel, and third party systems such as SAP.

• Oracle BI Applications are built on the Oracle BI Suite Enterprise Edition, a comprehensive and market leading BI platform and a Common Enterprise Information Model.

Page 4: OBIEE 11g Tech_Architecture

Why OBI Apps?• Enables Organizations to implement and integrate quickly with less risk

and at a fraction of cost required to build an end-to-end BI Solution.• Lot of Development time saved and the customers can focus more on the

Business Decisions rather than spending time on the Development Phase.• OOTB Reports/Dashboards readily available for better organizational

decisions .• Gain a single, consistent view of Enterprise information across functional

areas and source systems.

OBIA Delivered Repositories

• A fully developed RPD (OracleBIAnalyticsApps.rpd) consisting of number of metrics for different subject area contents ready to be used for reporting.

• Informatica Repository (Oracle_BI_DW_Base.rep) with pre-built ETL logic to extract data from source systems to the Oracle Business Analytic Warehouse

• DAC Repository (export.zip) Metadata to orchestrate ETL and creating/maintaining the Warehouse

• Packaged WebCat consisting of OOTB Metrics, Dashboards, Reports etc

Page 8: OBIEE 11g Tech_Architecture

Role of OBIEE Developer in OBIA

• OBIA installation comes with an RPD which consists of fully developed Physical, Business Mapping Model and Presentation Layers on the OBI Warehouse and a Web Cat with a set of Dashboards, Reports etc for each of the Subject Areas.

• This OOTB rpd has number of metrics defined for each of the subject areas and helps the customer to do an insight into their warehouse.

• This RPD can be further enhanced with the customer requirements.• New customer Dashboards, Reports etc can be added to the existing

webcat.

profitability. – Oracle Financial Analytics helps front-line managers improve financial

performance with complete, up-to-the-minute information on their departments' expenses and revenue contributions.

– Hundreds of key performance indicators and more than 200 reports enable financial managers to improve cash flow, lower costs, and increase profitability while maintaining more accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting.

Page 11: OBIEE 11g Tech_Architecture

Benefits of Financial Analytics

• Assess cash management and monitor operational effectiveness of the payables department to ensure lowest transaction costs

• Monitor DSOs and cash cycles to manage working capital, manage collections, and control receivables risk

• Manage financial performance across locations, customers, products, and territories, and receive real-time alerts on events that may impact financial condition

• Identify most profitable customers, products, and channels and understand profitability drivers across regions, divisions, and profit centers

Page 12: OBIEE 11g Tech_Architecture

OBIA Human Resources Analytics

• Human Resource Analytics– Talent management is about providing workforce information to

business leaders so they can attract, develop, and retain the best people.

– With more than 300 metrics and 600 dimensional attributes, Oracle Human Resources Analytics provides the workforce information your human resources (HR) professionals and front-line managers need to analyze workforce staffing and productivity, and to better design compensation that rewards performance.

– Oracle Human Resources Analytics integrates data from a wide array of functional areas in HR and Finance, presenting the best tools available to better source high quality applicants, and to reduce employee retention and absence costs.

Page 13: OBIEE 11g Tech_Architecture

Benefits of HR Analytics

• Monitor workforce demographics in line with your recruitment and retention objectives.

• Analyze efficiency of the entire recruitment process lifecycle, understand and prevent the drivers of employee turnover.

• Gain insight into the movement of top and bottom performers in the organization to engage and develop internal talent.

• Gain insight into learning demand by analyzing course enrollments by job, delivery methods, and organizations.

• Understand how compensation impacts performance, ensure compensation is equitable and consistent across roles, and align variable compensation with your organization's objectives and goals.

• Assess HR's overall performance and employee productivity using industry benchmarks such as revenue per employee, contribution per headcount, and return on human capital.

Oracle BI Apps Security• Oracle BI Applications integrates tightly with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, as well as the security model of the operational source system, to allow the right content to be shown to the right user.

• You should be thoroughly familiar with the security features of Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition before you begin working with Oracle BI Applications.

•Oracle BI Applications has many options that an administrator can use to authenticate and show critical business data to the right people.

Page 17: OBIEE 11g Tech_Architecture

Oracle BI Apps Security TypesSecurity in Oracle BI Applications can be classified broadly into three different categories:Data securityData security controls the visibility of data (content rendered in subject areas, dashboards, Oracle BI Answers, and so on) based on the user's association to data in the transactional system.

Object securityObject security controls the visibility to business logical objects based on a user’s role. You can set up object-level security for metadata repository objects, such as subject areas and presentation tables, and for Web objects, such as dashboard objects, defined in the Presentation Catalog.

User security (authentication of users)User security refers to authentication and confirmation of the identity of a user based on the credentials provided.

Page 18: OBIEE 11g Tech_Architecture

•Object-level and data-level security are implemented in Oracle BI Applications using application roles. •Application roles define a set of permissions granted to a user or group. Application roles are defined in the policy store using Oracle Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control, and are composed of groups and users defined in LDAP. •Application roles are typically related to either data or objects. For example, the Oracle BI Applications repository (OracleBIAnalyticsApps.rpd) uses the following application roles:

•The HR Org-based Security application role is used to control access to human resources data at the data security level.•The Human Resources Analyst application role is used to control Presentation layer object visibility for the Human Resources Analyst role at the object security level

Page 19: OBIEE 11g Tech_Architecture

Role of OBIEE In OBIA SecuritySecurity settings for Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition are made in the following Oracle Business Intelligence components:

Oracle BI Administration ToolYou can use the Oracle BI Administration Tool to perform

tasks such as setting permissions for business models, tables, columns, and subject areas; specifying filters to limit data accessibility; and setting authentication options.

Oracle BI Presentation Services AdministrationYou can use Oracle BI Presentation Services Administration

to perform tasks such as setting permissions to Presentation Catalog objects, including dashboards and dashboard pages.

Page 20: OBIEE 11g Tech_Architecture

Role of OBIEE In OBIA SecurityOracle Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control(New 11g Feature)

You can use Fusion Middleware Control to manage the policy store, application roles, and permissions for determining functional access.

Oracle WebLogic Server Administration Console(New 11g Feature)You can use the Weblogic Administration Console to

manage users and groups in the embedded Oracle WebLogic Server LDAP. You can also use the Administration Console to manage security realms, and to configure alternative authentication providers.

Informatica in OBI Applications

• Used in OBI Applications as Data Integration & ETL Tool• Has the following Adaptor folders

– SDE (Source Dependent Extract , 1 for each ERP/source)– SIL(Source Independent Load)– PLP (Post Load Process)– Universal (For any other/legacy sources)

• Mappings are prepackaged for individual Subj. Areas

• Mappings are Executed/Orchestrated from DAC tool
