Show and Go - Sunday December 6, 2015 Our third "Show & Go" was held Sunday and by all accounts it was a big success. We had over 40 individ-ual runs and the most participants ever!! This event is definitely a work in progress, and we are learning from our mistakes; or more kindly missteps. We will be making some minor changes for the January "Show & Go" (be forewarned we are anticipating record participation) which is being held January 10th, just weeks prior to the OTCPBC Trial. The registration form will be going out later this week and because we may be forced to restrict the number of entries, please forward your information as soon as possible. It would be a shame not to take advantage of the ring time. They say it takes a Village, and if that's true the Mayor of our little Village was without a doubt Page Athen, our Judge. Page arrived early and was one of the last to leave. It was indeed not a sprint but a mara-thon! Many, many thanks. Big thanks to Celeste Platte and Sherry Cooper for literally spending the whole day with us and kindly readying the ring first thing in the morning. Also many thanks to Donna Kornmeyer for helping break down the rings for the cleaning crew Monday morning. It was nice to see both Karen Jones and Betty Gansky. They'd both been missed. Lastly, a very special tank you from Miss Erica Guiejka, Tracey's daughter, to Sherry Cooper for being a GREAT Steward instructress. Erica is really looking forward to perfecting her skills! See you all in January. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!! Nancy Honchar, Maryanne Lannon, Tracey Guiejka **********************************************************************************************

Next Show and go - Sunday, January 3 The next Show and Go will be held Sunday, January 3rd. This show and go will be PRE REGISTATION ONLY. NO DAY OF EVENT WALK INS. OTC’s trial is coming up on January 16 and 17. We expect a lot of people to come and practice. The running order will be Utility to Novice. Second runs will be done AFTER all the first runs are com-pleted.

I'd like to give Marti a BIG thank you for overcoming unimaginable obstacles running these trials! Betty ********************************************************************************************* From Marti Hohmann

I'd like to thank everyone who helped with our Thanksgiving Day weekend Barn Hunt trial. We took on an ambitious project - 6 trials in 3 days. I was proud to be part of this project, and thrilled for the dogs who got the chance to amaze us with their prowess. We had many Senior and Master dogs competing, and it was exciting to watch these great scent work dogs getting the job done. Kathy Kent handled a dog (Fame) who earned the prestigious RATCHX, of-fered when a dog completes 25 qualifying Master runs, and her RATCH dogs Ditto and Gaiter were also there. Sever-al club members' dogs distinguished themselves, some in an extraordinary way -- I'll let their owners brag in Lead Lines or our FB page. Deep gratitude to Kathy Kent for offering us her time, materials, and expertise. Kathy also spent hours practicing with us on Wednesday after set up so we could prepare our dogs for the weekend to come. She, Kathy Albasini, and I moved 40 bales of hay by ourselves on Friday night, and neither she nor Kathy are club members. Kathy (Kent) also kept me on track and pointed me in the right direction countless times over the weekend. Grateful appreciation to Lori Patterson for devoting her weekend to us and serving as Trial Secretary. I greatly value her patience, accuracy, and attention to detail. Thanks to Traci Murdock of Austin, TX for serving as judge in spite of a wicked head and chest cold that I hope is better by now. Many thanks to Betty and Jeff Gansky and Sue Carlson for being the lone brave souls from OTC who came to help with set up on Wednesday. Trial Workers: Sincere appreciation to Maite Dezendorf, Wayne and Sandy Papciak, Kathy Albasini, Natalie Roth-man, Kay Wheeler, Angel Andrews, Judy Leitzsch, Holly Ellington, Susan Howard, Kim Carey, Joanna Broussell, Melanie Bryson, Stacey Curcio, Steve Campbell, Page Athan, Shanda Drawdy, Carol Ann Klein, Karen and John Lewis, Christina Gengko, Janis Neff, Tracey Guziejka, Mary Phillips, Sandy DeGraff, and John Gorbas for serving as rat wranglers, scribe, gate steward, leash runner, and blind steward. You were incredibly dedicated and kept us mov-ing, and I so appreciate your willingness to help regardless of club affiliation. OTC members among the group, thank you. You were terrific. Some of you had no dog entered -- you just wanted to represent your club and do the right thing. Tailwaggers and Hollywood club members, a special thank you. I am so moved by how you stepped up and offered to do just about anything at any time to make the trial successful, and I pledge to do the same at your first re-quest. Just ask. Several people deserve special commendation for going above and beyond in trial assistance. Wayne and Sandy Pap-ciak, Karen and John Lewis, Kathy Albasini, Kim Carey, Steve Campbell, and Carol Ann Klein: You worked for 10+ hours (sometimes for more than one day), and some of you from the beginning of the day to its close. I am so grate-ful. Heartfelt thanks to our Trial Breakdown and Cleanup Warriors: Bob Millar, John Gorbas, Angel Andrews, Mary Phillips, and Steve Campbell. You were organized and efficient -- we had the building clear in one hour. Steve and Angel had already worked the entire day, and Mary came back after her runs to help. This was her first barn hunt. Thank you. Thanks to Page Athan and Maite Dezendorf for sharing their fluency in Spanish to translate the rules of barn hunt and the judge's requirements to the workers from El Sol who help us move hay and also served as rat wranglers and gate steward. The El Sol workers deserve special thanks, too. They were on their feet for 13 hours per day and helped with physical labor at the front and back end of the trial. We couldn't have set up or broken down without them. They also managed to reconfigure more than 2000 pounds of sand into airtight sandbags so the building could be kept safe dur-ing next year's hurricane season. Betty Gansky, Joan Bruno, and Rita Medwid prepared or brought food, and we ate a lot of it. It was delicious, and I thank you. Christina Gengko prepared plates on Sunday when we decided to work straight through. Betty Gansky really saved us on Saturday with a delicious lunch just when our spirits were low. Those of you who know me know that cooking is not my strong suit, so I am very grateful that others can stand in my stead in this regard.

Thanks to Jeff Gansky for making 12 PVC "legs" for the ring that somehow went missing between our last trial and this one. We would have had no ring if you hadn't stepped up. Thanks to Sue Carlson who designed a poster for our trial. Thanks also to Lindsey Smith for serving as trial photogra-pher and presenting me with a beautiful photo of Prue in action. Sincere appreciation to Barbara Zaniewski for preparing the ribbons ahead of time and to John Gorbas for completing the inventory afterwards. Thanks to Mary Macchia for helping with worker raffle baskets, and for donating two of them. I appreciate your gen-erosity. Betty Gansky and Page Athan donated toys and treats for the baskets -- thank you. Thanks to Judy McPartland who apprenticed as BH trial secretary -- I appreciate the long hours spent staring at a computer screen and learning the ins and outs of the TS software. I can't wait to see the photos and hear the brags from successful club members and others. My own Fizz earned his Novice title and worked with his usual gusto. The delight he takes in this new sport makes it all worthwhile. It fills me with joy when he drags me into the ring because he can't wait to get to work. That passion is precious, and thank you again to everyone who made it happen for all of us.

********************************************************************************************* For those of you that are not familiar with El Sol, the following is a brief description from their website . Ed

“El Sol’s core service is operating our Labor Center, which is open daily. Workers register with the Labor Center and show up on all days that they are available for work. Contractors and homeowners needing workers come to El Sol and within minutes are matched with workers who have the skills needed for the work requested..”

To: El Sol From: Marti Hohmann Subject: Thank you from Obedience Training Club of Palm Beach County I wanted to thank you on behalf of Obedience Training Club of Palm Beach County for the assistance several El Sol workers provided to our dog training club last weekend. We are an AKC dog obedience club located at 1250 Gateway Road in Lake Park. We ran a 3-day trial that featured 50 dogs working scent discrimination exercises for more than 12 hours per day. It was important that the course be maintained and the dogs allowed to work quickly and efficiently. Fernando, Gerbacio, Julio, and Fredy helped us set up the ring, lay out the tarp, and move bales of hay. They also helped in key positions in the ring, assisting the judge while each exhibitor showed her dog. After the trial was over, they helped clean up and restore the building to its original condition. None of these gentlemen had ever worked at a dog show before, and I believe our work was different from what they are usually asked to do. However, they were terrific. They were incredibly flexible, hard-working, and professional. On behalf of the Board of Directors, and the entire membership of our organization, thank you. *******************************************************************************************************

Thank You for having all the trials. I only did Fri due to obedience offered in Davie but wish I had done all Barn Hunt. I hope your club does this again soon, I really enjoyed it, as did my dogs Reba & Chelsea. Was very nice of you to have nice prizes for the workers.

Thanks again, Janis Neff

Thank you for coming and your wonderful courses ! Thanks also to OTCPBC for having a terrific building and to all the Club members for doing such a great job hosting. So thrilled the cute little black dig went 4 for 4 and got his Novice title in his debut. Can't wait for the next trial

Stacy Carpentier Santarone ************************************************************************************** Thanks to Obedience Training Club of Palm Beach County for hosting a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend of Barn Hunt! It was a pleasure to judge and meet so many great people and dogs - there was some amaz-ing teamwork going on! I enjoyed watching the dogs and handlers make progress over the course of the three days and there were many WOW moments. There were many individual successes and Qs - lots of new title ribbons were given out. Thanks to Kathy Kent and Marti Hohmann for all the prep work and organization necessary to make a trial run well - definitely could not have done it without you working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure everything ran smoothly and Lori Patterson did a great job as Trial Secretary. Thanks to all the volunteers and members that welcomed me - at a safe distance ;) - to Florida and helped both in the ring and out. We never had to search to fill positions - all the competitors and club members really stepped up to help. Lunch was great - loved the barbeque chicken and homemade potato salad and deviled eggs! Until I see you again - Keep Calm and Find Rats! Traci Murdock ************************************************************************************** Buzz Taylor’s Happy

Fizz earned his Novice title at our Barn Hunt trial Thanksgiving Day week-end. He placed first, second, and third in the three qualifying classes. He also won High in Class Large. We both had a blast! Thanks to Holly Ellington for taking this photograph of us in action.

Chance Zaniewski got his Senior Title in Barn Hunt

Barbara Zaniewski

******************************************************************************************

Suzi Carlson's English Cocker, Pendleton, is mighty proud of himself. At the club's Barn Hunt Extravaganza in November, he found 19 rats! He received his Open title, Senior title and one leg in Masters, plus three High in Class ribbons.

Suzi Carlson

***************************************************************************************************************************** *************

Trooper earned his instinct test for Barn Hunt in 11 secs. He went on to earn his Novice title with his first leg in 38 secs . That was enough to give him a first place and High in Class. Then another first place and lastly a second place. We had a wonderful week end. It was so much fun to see him succeed.

Target received his first leg in Senior with a forth place. He did so well, but just could not find the forth rat. I guess I was spoiled. He earned his Novice in 3 tries, his Open in 4 tries. Joanna Brousell
