CADENZAS
AANDHOLIKA
Aandholika is a talent hunt for the most versatile singer
among the participants. The event has singers rendering a
good mix of songs from various eras with live orchestration
by the Music Club.
Rules:
A maximum of 2 male and/or 2 female entries per college.
The event comprises Eliminations followed by Finals.
Eliminations:
The contestant will have to perform a Hindi song of his/her choice in the first round.
The contestants will also be tested on sense of scale and beat.
No accompanists are allowed. 3 male and 3 female contestants will be short listed
for the finals.
Judging in eliminations will be based on:
Quality of voice Sense of scale and beat Quality of rendition Improvisation
Finals:
A song bank will be made available to the finalists after the elimination round.
All songs in this stage must be from the song bank. The songs in final round will have to be sung on the
original scale. Live orchestration will be provided. Other details regarding the final rounds will also be
provided after the elimination round. Note: Participants are requested to carry an IPod, CD/MP3
player.
AXETACY A solo guitar competition. Rules: • It is a solo guitar event.

• Participants will not have more than 10 minutes each on stage, including tuning and sound check, etc. There is no restriction on the number of songs they can play. • A basic sound setup will be provided. Participants are required to get their own guitars and patches/pedals/processors for the event. However if a guitar can be provided to a participant on the spot, it will be. • A professional judge will be present.
FUSION Fusion, as the name suggests, is a harmony of Indian and Western styles of music. It is a self-composed instrumental piece supported by vocal queues like alaaps, harmonies (preferably without lyrics), a jugalbandi or any kind of musical composition comprising various genres. The musical piece may be a combination of eastern and western styles - electric, acoustic or mixed.
Rules:
One entry per college or band ‐ maximum of 10 members per entry.
Time limit: 12 minutes + 5 minutes setup time
2% of the marks will be deducted for every extra minute.
Judging will be based on:
Co‐ordination
Quality of orchestration
Improvisation and originality
Blending of genres
Overall impact and sound of the band
Connection with the audience
Note:
Drum kit, a keyboard, an electric guitar, tabla and a bass guitar will be provided.
Instrumentalists will not be provided.
OASIS UNPLUGGED Competitive event targeted at semi-professional musicians. Participants will play acoustic versions of English songs.

RULES: • Participants will play acoustic versions of English songs. • The participants will be provided with a drum kit. They should bring their own guitars. • The number of participants per group should not exceed 5. • The number of songs per group should not exceed 4.
SWARANJALI Swaranjali is a classical music contest. Participants trained in
the vocal and instrumental aspects of both Carnatic and
Hindustani styles are invited to compete. (Instruments:
Violin, Sitar, Veena, Flute, Hawaiin Guitar, Tabla,
Mridangam, Ghatam, Keyboard, Guitar, Harmonium,
Kanjira, Saarangi, Sarod).
RULES:
Individual participation.
Time duration: 5 minutes (minimum), 10 minutes
(maximum)
Contestants for instrumental music are expected to
bring their own accompaniments. They will be judged
based on performances in two categories:
1. String and wind instruments
2. Percussion
TARANG Tarang is an event dedicated to 'Indian Music’ that
showcases vocal and instrumental talent. The event hails
the best music band that recreates their favourite musical
numbers with superlative instrumental co‐ordination and
vocal harmony.
Rules:
One entry per college or band. A minimum of 3 and a maximum of 12 members per
entry allowed. Time limit: 15 minutes + 5 minutes setup time 2% of the total marks will be deducted for every extra
minute. The competition involves reproduction of Indian
Music in 2 modules: o Module 1: Vocals appropriately backed by
instruments.

o Module 2: A purely instrumental piece/ instrumental version of a song.
A performance that DOES NOT INCLUDE BOTH the above mentioned modules would be DISQUALIFIED.
Use of pre‐recorded music (e.g. sequences, keyboard rhythm, guitar loops) will result in disqualification.
A rendition may be a film song / album song / own composition.
Judging will be based on:

Note:
Only 3 microphones will be provided upfront and 2 for backing vocals.

WESTERN ACOUSTIC JAM
Western acoustic jam is an event that attracts lovers of
western music, both classical and pop. It is a non-
competitive event where participants are free to render
their favourite western numbers with their own
accompaniment, if necessary.
Rules:
No restriction on the number of entries from each college.
One keyboard (piano mode) and 3-piece drum-kit setup will be provided.
Participants have to bring their own acoustic guitars.

CYBERSPACE
1000 WORDS
“A photograph speaks a thousand words.” Every
photograph has a story of its own. Some describe the magic
of Mother Nature, others the incredibility of Indian streets.
Some photographs bring back nostalgic memories of college
days; others just portray the lives of the lifeless. Tell us the
story behind your photograph.
RULES:
This is an online event.
Participants must get registered on the OASIS (www.bits-oasis.org) website on the opening of the event, and must submit the finished photos and the write-up before the specified deadline.
The write-up can include the story that accompanies the photo or the description of the photograph.
The final entry must consist of one image, minimum resolution of 1200 * 1600 pixels. The snaps must be the original work of the participant.
There is no specific theme for this event.
The write-up should not exceed 200 words.
Entries can be sent to [email protected] with the subject “1000 Words”
Entries are to be submitted in the following format : Image: - Title_Name_College Name.jpeg. Write Up to be attached in .pdf or .doc format and mailed along with the photo.
CREATIVITY QUOTIENT TEST
An online quizzing event that tests every bit of your creativity!
HEAD-ON
A unique blend of blogging and debating Head-On is an
online debating competition open to all. This Oasis, the
whole of the internet will be the stage, and our blog will be
the podium. Get ready to witness the ultimate battle of
words and wits!
This is an online event where participants present their
points on the given topic on a blog. They will get to interject
the posts of opponents, as well as defend their points by

offering stinging replies to the torrents of comments on
their own post.
Get prepared to lock horns…head on!
RULES:
Participants are required to post their views and
opinions in their post on the blog. They will get only a
single shot at this.
The participants’ views will be commented upon and
criticized by others as well as the administrator.
The participant is allowed to offer replies to these
comments.
No participant is allowed to post 2 consecutive
comments on a post.
Judging will be based on the quality of arguments in
the posts as well as the comments posted on one’s
own as well as others’ posts.
Every post and comment will have a word limit,
whose violation would lead to disqualification
Note: Rules may be subject to change and the decision of
the event coordinator will be final.
LIMERICKS An online event that asks for the completion of funny little
five line verses.
Rules: Two lines will be given; participant has to complete
the limerick (A humorous verse form of 5 anapaestic lines
with a rhyme scheme aabba).
POSTERAMA Unleash your creative venom this Oasis to present a social
cause in an innovative and touching manner. Here is the
chance to pitch in with your ideas and show off your
exquisite technical skills. Channelize your zeal and energy
into making a poster that reflects your take on the
particular theme. This will be a one round competition and
the participants are supposed to design a poster according
to a given theme.
RULES:
Participants are supposed to submit their posters by
the deadline.

The work for the poster should be original, or the
entry in question will be cancelled.
Judging will be done on how effectively the theme is
depicted.
Participants can use any designing software like
photoshop etc, and should submit all the source files
along with their design.
Nirmaan may use the work of any of the participants
in any of its chapters. (With credits)
Note: Rules may be subject to change and the
decision of the event coordinator will be final.

FOURTH WALL
ACT AND REACT
Do you see characters in motion all around and think life is
scripted and staged? Ever envisaged some of the most
facetious and uncanny situations that life might
throw at you? Destiny beckons you to Act n React. All you
need is a copious amount of histrionic skill and talent,
blended perfectly with the ingredients of team – chemistry,
spontaneity and versatility – garnished with ample humour.
As you bring the actor in you to life, enthral the audience
and see them rise in echoing ovation.
RULES:
Only one entry per college. This number may be
increased on the spot, but it will be solely at the
discretion of the Coordinator, DoT.
Each team should have 4 participants.
Teams can act in Hindi or English.
Entries will be accepted on a first come first serve
basis.
All participants should be on stage for the whole act.
No entries or exits are allowed.
Total time on stage for each team is 10 minutes.
At least three situations will be given to each team to
enact.
Only the first situation will be revealed to the team in
advance. Two minutes will be given to prepare for
the first situation while the switch to the other
situation has to be spontaneous.
The situations to be enacted will be given by the
judges to the teams and they will also indicate the
moment a switch has to be made. The decision of the
judges is final and binding.
No props, indicative costumes, music or make up are
allowed. Violation will result in negative points.
Negative marking for vulgarity and it may lead to
disqualification as well.
Points will be awarded for creativity, humour and
spontaneity.
Teams should report 15 minutes before the event
begins.

Alert, O' mortals, behold thy slayers

RULES:
Only one entry per college.
Maximum of 12 participants on stage. However, all
participants need not be on stage at one time.
All teams will have an on-campus elimination round
during OASIS.
Teams need to submit a copy of the write-ups of
different rounds at the time of eliminations. The
write-up should be in printed form.
Time limit of 15 minutes (curtain to curtain). All
teams have to present their introduction, for which 5
extra minutes will be given. Points will be deducted
for exceeding the time limit.
Participants can follow any theme of their choice.
One round on the Oasis theme is compulsory.
On-stage practice slots will be provided for the short-
listed teams. Teams are expected to use them for
stage familiarization, finalizing light cues etc.
Emphasis will be given to clothing, portrayal and
originality.
Backstage helpers should not exceed 8. Two team
members must be present to provide cues for music
and lights.
Lighting of candles, matches or cigarettes on stage is
not allowed and will result in disqualification.
A T-shaped extension will be provided to the
auditorium stage. Both the stage and the extension
may be used as the walking ramp.
Teams are requested to confirm their participation in

Teams must report to the DoT room immediately
after registration at the Controlz booth.
Teams must bring 2 CDs and a pendrive containing
their sound track. One CD is to be submitted at the
time of eliminations. The soundtrack should be in
.mp3 format.
METAMORPHOSIS
It is not easy to create something beautiful; to create a work
of art so exquisite, everyone wants to look. It is even harder
to do that with a deadline sitting on your head...
So you think you have that extraordinary vision that can
transform vague, lifeless ideas into a masterful depiction of
creativity and emotion?
Believe in yourself! Give vent to your inner directorial
impulse!
We challenge you to create that which dreams are made of.
Metamorphosis is a two-round movie making competition.
1ST ROUND:
This is a Screening round. Teams will be shortlisted for the
second round.
No specific theme is required for the 1st round.
Entries should start with Title and College Name.
Videos shot using Digicams/Handycams/Mobile Phones are
all allowed.
2ND ROUND:
This will be a themed round.
The theme will be announced before Oasis.
The movies will be screened during the fest.
Videos shot using Digicams/Handy cams/Mobile Phones are
all allowed.
RULES AND REGULATIONS:
The maximum duration for an entry is 4 minutes.
The maximum number of members in a team is 4.
(Excluding the cast)
Each entry should bear an appropriate title.
All entries should be completely original and
independently produced.
Entries must reflect your direction and editing skills,
and should comprise of cinematography and editing
only.

Organizers solely reserve the right to screen the

Smoking, Obscenity, Pornography and Excessive

Life is a cycle, and mime is particularly suitable for showing
transformation and metamorphosis. Words can keep
people apart but mime can be a bridge between them! Just
like they say: ACTIONS speak louder than WORDS! MIME
requires participants to portray a play, pertaining to a
theme, through actions.
RULES:
Teams should give in their entries to the Coordinator,

There is no elimination round. Entries will be

instruments, recognizable words, indicative makeup,
indicative costumes or props are allowed. For
clarification, please contact the Coordinator, Dot.
Violation will result in negative points.
Mikes will be provided to the off stage members of
the team. Any sound produced must not be
recognizable as words.
Points will be deducted for vulgarity.
A short synopsis may be read out before the
performance which will not be included in the
writeup.

SPOOFOMANIA
Diversity in perspective renders any object, however trivial,
priceless. Going over to the funny side, we bring to you
thematic spoofs, where participants are required to present
an alternative, objective view of conventional cinema. We
take you to the world of recreating movies and revisiting
events in satirical ways and with sarcastic, witty cracks,
tickling the funny bones of all the ‘insomniacs’ out there.
RULES:
Maximum number of participants per entry is 6 on
stage and 2 off stage.
Teams can act in Hindi or English.
The team may choose any one movie from the given
list.
Synopsis of the script should be sent to the
Coordinator, DoT by 26th September for short listing

Synopsis may be handwritten/softcopy/photocopied.
Illegible scripts will be disqualified.

STAGE PLAYS
THESPO and OASIS present: Stage Plays.
Friends, Romans, Countrymen, Lend Me Your Ears...
As the curtains raise this OASIS, they shall unveil a
commitment to the art of theatre, to the cultural fabric of
the audience, bringing to them a wholesome feast of drama
to awaken and thrill the senses! Watch ingeniously written
scripts transform into enthralling plays, shining with the
talent and dexterity of actors guided by adept direction. A
show of expertise and professionalism will unfold, leaving
the audience in nothing short of a trance!
RULES:
Stage plays during OASIS 2010 will be judged by
members from the Thespo 11 screening panel.
The teams will also be screened for Thespo 11.
The screening panel’s decision to include a play at
Thespo will depend solely on the quality of the play.
Thus, the number of teams that may get selected is
not fixed.
The plays making it to Thespo will be announce on
26th October, by the Thespo 11 screening panel,
after the judges have evaluated all the plays.
Multiple entries per college, but each entry from a
college should be in a different language. For the final
stage plays only one script from each college will be
selected.

The play may be multi-lingual.
Maximum of six teams will be selected for the finals.
First stage of eliminations will be based on play
scripts.
All members putting up the play (with the exception
of the playwright) should be under the age of 25.
All play scripts should reach the Coordinator of DoT
by 26th September for short listing of

A list containing all props to be used during the play
should be sent along with the script.
Teams whose scripts are not received by the

during the performance. Any deviations without prior

up on the Oasis website.
Time limit: Minimum – 60 minutes; Maximum – 75
minutes (empty stage to empty stage).
For teams to be eligible for Thespo 11 screening, they
should have an “on-stage performance” of minimum
60 minutes.
Not adhering to the time limit will result in negative
points.
Approximate duration of the play should be specified
when the script is sent.
Backstage helpers should not exceed 6. Two team
members must be present to provide cues for music
and lights.
Points will be deducted for vulgarity. Thespo insists
on scripts avoiding abusive language.
Lighting of candles, matches or cigarettes on stage is
not allowed and will result in disqualification.
Mikes, lights will be provided.

Props may be provided but are subject to availability.
The teams are requested to send a list of props
required along with the script. Teams will be
intimated about the availability of the same. (For
definition of “prop” please refer to the note given
below).
Rehearsal slots will be provided for quick stage
familiarization
Note: Definition of “prop”: An item that is not a part of
clothing is a prop. Also, an item of clothing will be
considered a prop if it is moved from its initial position
during the performance.
STREET PLAYS
Oasis brings to you, right from the streets, a loud and larger
than life exchange of ideologies, with drama full of humour
and zeal. Street Plays aka Nukkad Natak, are carried out to
propagate social and political messages among the masses,
amidst the direct, intimate and effective means of theatre
by means of shouts, chants, drums and catchy songs.
RULES:
One entry per college.
The play may be in English or Hindi.
Time limit of 40 minutes. Negative points for
exceeding the time limit. An
introduction of participants is necessary after the
play but not included in
the time limit.
Teams are expected to mention approximate time for
their plays.
Elimination is based on play scripts.
All play scripts should reach the Coordinator of DoT
by 26th September for short listing of
finalists.(Contact: Shachi Agarwalla-09983123206,

Teams whose scripts are not received by the
specified time will not be considered.

MENTAL MATRIX
AUDIO VISUAL QUIZ
Come. See. Conquer. The AVQ adds all the glamour to the Oasis quizzing scenario replete with acoustics and imagery to spice up your evening. All questions take either of the above two approaches leaving the participants wanting for more.
RULES:
Teams of three will have to answer the written elimination.
Any number of teams from a college can participate.
The top six teams, selected on the basis of their scores in the elimination, will compete in the finals.
The quiz will consist of only audio-visual questions
DHAROHAR Come reconnect with the beauty of Indian culture, tradition, history, sports, movies and current affairs through a quiz that seeks to test the India Quotient within the participants.
RULES:
A written prelims round will be conducted on the day of finals (open to all) out of which 4 teams will be selected for the finals.
The finals will be an on-stage event comprising of traditional rounds of quizzing like Infinite Bounce, Connects, Rapid Fires, Jackpots, Audio Visual questions etc.
Participants may turn up for the event in groups of maximum 3.
The details of each round are subject to quizmaster’s discretion.
ENTERTAINMENT QUIZ
Had enough of monotonously difficult quizzes? Then EQ is your one stop solution! Music, movies, TV sitcoms, literature, sports...and more! The domain is huge and possibilities endless. However, fun is guaranteed. Always thought that this is your bastion? Prove it! Yet another quiz where the winners stand tall, while the losers look small.
Team size - Maximum two participants per team.

Rounds - Elimination round, followed by on-stage rounds.
Judging criteria - The team with the maximum points at the end of the final round will be declared winners.
FILM STRIP If you are totally into movies and music, this quiz is the place to be. After a written elimination round, teams pass through a series of rounds like rapid fire, situation round, audio and video rounds etc, to reach the final round. The finals will be a fast-paced stage event, with buzzer rounds as well. All questions will pertain in some way to the world of cinemas.
RULES:
Each team consists of two participants.
Elimination will be done through a written test.
Rounds can have negative marking as well.
Any number of teams from a college can participate.
FILMI MUQABLA
If you thought Bollywood was all about spicy gossip, we'll surely change that notion. With scintillating and sensational facts comes Filmi Muqabla, the only Bollywood Quiz of its kind!
RULES:
Questions asked will be only related to Bollywood.
Each team will consist of 2 members.
Teams have to qualify written elimination round first in which any number of teams can participate.
Based on the written elimination round, 6 teams will be chosen.They will compete for the title of “Filmi Sartaj” in the finals.
The finals will consist of 6 rounds.
Finals will consist of simple audio-visual rounds. In case of any discrepancies, the decision of judges will be final and binding.

MOVIE QUIZ The Movie Quiz will be a mixed bag of trivia, connects and workoutable questions, covering all genres of the world of cinema. Rules:
Maximum three members per team
A preliminary round will be conducted first, followed by a final round of shortlisted teams.
The decision of the quiz master shall be final and binding
OASIS QUIZ
The charmer among quizzes, OQ, as it is popularly termed, is a thorough crowd puller giving quizzers a pleasant nudge to their brain cells while entertaining the audience and keeping the spirit of oasis rolling. An exhilarating atmosphere dashed with a touch of trivia suits one just fine.
RULES:
Teams of three will have to answer the written elimination.
Any number of teams from a college can participate.
The top six teams, selected on the basis of their scores in the elimination, will compete in the finals.
The finals will have audio and visual rounds besides the regular oral rounds.
SOUND OUT
A quiz to test your poetry quotient. It’s time to squeeze out your knowledge of the magnificent realm of poetry.
Rules:
Participants are required to report in teams of not more than two.
The quiz consists of two rounds – elimination and final.
The questions will be mostly objective.
Teams have to qualify in the written elimination to move to final round.
The top six teams shall enter the final round.

SPEED SCRABBLE Event Details:

Rules:
All NSA Tournament Scrabble Rules apply, including loss of turn penalty for incorrect challenges. Winner\Qualifier to be decided by spread in case of a tie. Reduced time limit of 6 minutes per player.
Dictionary to be followed: SOWPODS and COLLINS OFFICIAL SCRABBLE DICTIONARY (computer versions of both).
Time Frame: A game is expected to last 15 minutes. On 10 boards 40 participants play head-to-head in two batches (time=90 min). Subsequent round played in similar fashion till we’re down to two finalists (time=45min). Final will be a full-length scrabble game (time=50min). Total time=3 hrs approximately.
WORDSTOCK
Think you can play with the English language? This event is sure to make you eat your words with a handful of crosswords, trixies and anagrams taking you to your wits' end. Crack 'em and be crowned the king of words.
Rules: • Teams of two. • No restriction on number of teams per college. • Prelims and finals will be conducted.

RHETORIC
BLAB
BLAB basically stands for BITS LANGUAGE APTITUDE BATTLE
The first round is a written round in which people collect forms and fill them in. It consists of questions and tests how witty you are and how well you can react to given situations or any sort of testing questions.
The second round is a preliminary round in which 36 people get selected. They are divided into six groups. There will be elimination rounds in which one person from each group will proceed to the finals.
The rounds of the final depend on the conductor
People are supposed to speak without any hesitation, slurs or grammatical errors.
At any such hesitation or error, the other participants can buzz and start speaking. The first person to buzz gets to speak
Every second you speak you get 1 point. For every correct interruption you get around 5 points (at the discretion of the conductor).
Every round goes on for around one minute: JAM (Just a Minute) sessions.
Judging criteria is very simple. Point system depending on the time one speaks and for the number of justified interruptions.
BLUFFMASTER
This game show exposes the ability of the players to cheat, lie and deceive in order to win lucrative prizes.
Before the game:
Answers to about 30 general questions would be obtained, completely based on a survey.
For a give question, the answers would be ranked based on how rare they are. The most common response will carry the least weightage and the rarest answer will have the highest weightage of points.
The Game:
The game would have n (n to be decided later) contestants in which n-1 would be honest and one will be pre-designated as a Bluff Master. Nobody

else, including the host, will know who the Bluff Master is.
For each question, the players must come up with one of the r (r, around 10) most popular responses for that question.
The Bluff Master can secretly see all the answers to the questions on the game show, thereby getting a huge edge over all other participants, without making any of the other players suspicious.
The contestants will vote every few rounds. If the Bluffmaster gets exposed by the voting, he will be out of the game and a new contestant will be made the Bluffmaster randomly. Otherwise, the Bluffmaster will vote out an honest player.
The process will continue till only two contestants are left.
In the last round, the audiences will be allowed to participate by voting for the person who they think is the bluff master (amongst the last 2 players).
If the polling fails to spot the Bluff Master, he/she will take home the entire prize. If not, then the last honest player will get the prize.
Apart from the winner, few of the top contestants voted out will be given prizes, directly related to their points obtained.
Team Limit: Maximum 2 members per team.
KSHANIKA
Step forward and prove that you are extremely creative and have good oratory skills, in this one-of-a kind Hindi JAM. RULES:
In the first round, each contestant will be given a topic on which he will get 10 seconds to think. The participant is supposed to speak as soon as the time ends. The time limit for any topic is 1 minute. At the time of objection, the clock will be stopped. Other contestants can make objections on the
following points –
Hesitation, Stammering, Laughter while speaking or change of pace

MOCK PARLIAMENT Live out your desire to personify/imitate the fountainheads of Indian politics in this fiery event. RULES:
Each team will consist of 2 members.
The topic of discussion will be disclosed 24 hrs before the event.
The usage of English language is permitted
All questions, answers and speech will be addressed to the Sabha Adhyaksh (Speaker).
There will be 3 rounds: In the first round, the team will be required to
present its views on the given topic. In the second round, the teams will cross
question each other over the topic. Each team can ask only one question to the other teams.
In the third round, the audience as well as the judges will cross question the teams.
Evaluation will depend on content, presentation and conduct of the team.
In case of any dispute, the decision of judges will be final and binding. Judges will award points on the basis of content, language and presentation.
Note: The detailed information of the rounds as well as their rules will be provided on the spot.

MR. AND MISS OASIS
Introducing Mister and Miss Oasis - a personality hunt that promises entertainment like never before, a quest to find the rightful Mr. And Miss Oasis. The participants will have to go through multiple rounds which would test their wit, gumption, composure and their ability to present themselves in an amicable way in all sorts of situations. Striking a chord with the Junta is vital because it is ultimately the decision of the masses which keeps you afloat or drowns you. This event will take its own special path this OASIS.
JUDGING CRITERIA: In the final round, the participants will be judged on the basis of wit, talent, humour and confidence. The initial selection will be based on a telephonic and in person interview of the participants. Team size - Individual event.
SPOTLIGHT
A monologue delivery competition
Rules:
Maximum number of participants per college is 3, with a maximum of 20 in the whole event. However this may be increased on the spot at the discretion of the Coordinator, EDC.
Each participant will be given a time slot of 5 min exceeding which will lead to negative marking. Minimum time on stage is 2 min.
Marks will be deducted for vulgarity.
Monologue could be self written or adapted (from a movie or some play).
Judging Criteria:
Participants will be judged on the basis of delivery, stage presence, stage utilization, expressions, voice modulation, enunciation and the monologue chosen.
THE BIG FIGHT
Show off your flair for creating something beautiful and more importantly, meaningful, out of a variety of stuff that

we give you. In short, make a collage, present it and FIGHT it out in a debate to make it BIG this Oasis!
The event consists of two rounds. The first round consists of presenting a collage followed by an appraisal by opponents. Shortlisted teams will participate in the final round where they debate on a given topic.
RULES:
Participants are required to come in teams of 4members
ROUND-1:- COLLAGE WORK
Participants are required to prepare a paste-up made by sticking together pieces of paper or photographs on a chart which depicts the given (on the spot) theme with a catchy title in the given 30 minutes time. (Inventory will be provided)
All teams will be divided randomly into pools, each containing 2 teams. Each team in a pool will be given a chance to appraise their work and defend it while the other team criticises it.
The top 2 teams will be selected for the 2nd round.
Evaluation will be done by the judges based on the collage work, praise and criticism by each team. Judge’s decision will be final.
ROUND-2:- DEBATE
Each team has to select one captain
A topic will be given (on the spot) for the debate and the teams are required to decide FOR or AGAINST.
The two teams will then go for a debate in a unique format which will be revealed on the spot.

THE OASIS DEBATE
The Oasis Debate is an annual 3-on-3 parliamentary style debating event conducted by the Debating Society, BITS Pilani. The only event that mirrors the 96-hour experience that is Oasis, it draws participants from reputed colleges across the country, who engage in a battle of intellectual

articulation, coveting the title of the Oasis Debate Champions.
Rules:
The competition shall be run in Three Main Phases:
• E– 1: Knock Out Round (16 teams will qualify).
• E–2: Round Robin Eliminations (1 round of randomly matched debates + 3 rounds of power-matched debates + 1 bubble round, 8 teams will break).
• F: Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals & Finals.
E – 1 is a knock out round conducted in 2 segments, with 16 teams participating in each segment. The best 16 will be selected on the basis of their scores for the next round.
E – 2 of the competition will incorporate four rounds of competitive debating, scored in the usual manner and tabulated. The tabulation system will be 'power-matched'. All debates will be matched and ranked based on this system.
The sequence determining match-ups is as follows:
• Win-Loss record.
• Point’s differential (all win/loss margins added together).
• Overall Points total (all total team points in each round added together).
• Head to Head Record (if teams have met during one or more of the preliminary rounds).
Any ties in win-loss between the break round qualifiers, with the least win-loss, will be broken by another round of debating, The Bubble Round.
Note: Only the above teams will participate in this round.
The final authority on all aspects relating to the debate vests with the Chief Adjudicator, and the Adjudication Core.
VOICE A VERSE Poem recitation in its simplest sense, here is the opportunity to cry out your passion for poetry and fulfil your insatiable poetic appetite.

Bring one of your favourite poems to recite for the elimination round. The participants will be given a selected poem to recite in the final round.
Both Hindi and English poems recitations will be conducted separately.

There will be 2 contestants in a team.
No song can be repeated in any round.
In case a team sings a song incorrectly, or is unable to complete the “mukhra”, or forgets a word of the song etc., the remaining teams can raise an objection to it.
Antakshari will be organized in 5 rounds, the rules of each rounds will be specified on the spot.
BAKWAAS BAND KAR
“Are you Crazy?”
Is that what people tell you? Ever wondered how will life be
if you were deaf, dumb or blind? Ever thought how life
would be with just 25 alphabets?
Shed all your inhibitions. Write a whole new script for, say,
“Sholay” and who knows, maybe tomorrow you can claim
for yourself, the highest bid in any auction. This can be the
right platform for you, and you are just the one we are
looking for.

PRELIMS:
1) Jack, Ass and JackAss
A situation to be acted out is given to a team. The
catch is: One member is blind, one is deaf and one
dumb.

2) Who am I
An identity crisis with a twist. A time bound ‘Guess
who?’ round.
Each participant is assigned a character which is
pinned on to his/her back. Each participant needs to
identify who he/she is with only the charades of the
team mates to guide them. The allotted time is 90
seconds and should be utilized by the participants to
identify all the 3 characters. The guesses should be
made only after the allotted time (2 guesses per
participant).
3) Whose Line is it anyway
A team is put in an awkward situation. For example a
father, his son and his lover - and the son and his
lover are trying to explain their relationship to
the father. The catch is that you have to replace all 'L'
sounds in their words with 'P'.

an item from the list. The other person will then try
to sell him in an auction which can include the
audience. The team making the greatest sales wins.
Yeh Kaisa FILM
A film clip is shown to individual participants. Now
the same clip is repeated with the sounds muted. The
participant will have to create an entirely different
situation by giving dialogues for the actors acting in
the video clip.

BEG, BORROW, STEAL
This OASIS, get ready to put all your resources and contacts
to a test to fetch the most radical and extraordinary things
in this epic race. The participants will be given a list of things
that they have to fetch with specific points allocated for
each. Everything is fair in this war. “Jugaad” is the key word.
For once, you won’t be ostracized for begging, despised for
borrowing or prosecuted for stealing. The team which earns
the maximum points in the least time will be declared
winners.
Team size - A maximum of 6 participants per team.
Judging criteria - The team that gets the maximum points in
the least possible time will be declared the winner.
‘CARV’ATURE This is a soap carving competition.
Participation – Teams of maximum 3 members.
Soaps and cutters will be provided to the
participating teams and they get to display their
carving skills!
Judging is on the basis of creativity and beauty.
EXPOSURE
Photography club organizes the “traditional” exhibition-cum-competition, for all the shutterbugs and photography enthusiasts out there, who wish to show off their clicking skills to everyone else, and win prizes at the same time. Apart from the rest of the exhibition, which consists of the exquisite and unique collection of snaps, clicked and selected by the club, there are separate panels for the display of non-competitive entries. Snaps can be given under the following categories – People, Nature, Monochrome and Colours of India

There are 4 categories under which entries can be given –
PEOPLE – (can include portraits, and people in general)

The photography club can get the pictures printed for you, if they are submitted at least 7 days before the beginning of the fest ( before 16th October 2010– 1159 hours), in the formats given below –

IMPROVISE
Improvise is an impromptu thespian event. One of the members of the team is asked to step outside the room. While the first member is outside, the second member is given a WANT*. After the want is clearly understood, the person outside is called inside and informed about his relationship with the second member and the location of the scene. The basic aim of the task is to achieve your want.
*WANT: A want is something that a person wants to extract out of the other person.

Example: One member of the team may be given the want to extract the information about his birth mother from his stepmother (second member).
Judging Criteria:
Participants will be judged on the basis of their chemistry, expressions, scene building, emoting and enunciation.
Points will be deducted for vulgarity and exceeding the time limit.
Bonus points will be given in case of exceptional entry/exit.
Rules:
Each team comprises of two members.
Maximum number of entries per college is three. However this may be increased on the spot at the discretion of the members of the English Drama Club, BITS Pilani.
Participation is on first come first basis.
Each team will be given 4 + 1 minutes to perform. A team gets disqualified if it makes an exit in less than 2 minutes.
The person with the want makes the entry/exit.
MEDIA MANIA
Media Mania attempts to find the hidden journalist inside the participants. In the event, participants are given situations on the spot and are asked to report on the same. Specific rules pertaining to the event details will be declared on the spot to maintain the surprise factor.
RULES:
There will be one elimination round in which the
basic reporting skills of the participants will be tested.
Then a limited number of teams will be selected.
The final will have four rounds of events, which will
test the analytical skills, wit, judgement and
perspective of the participating teams

Haven’t you always wanted to capture the most awesome moments of a fest?
All that’s needed is a digital camera and the desire to roam the campus, get a feel of the fest and portray it in your snaps. The photos can be anything related to the events, participants, or even the campus during the fest, which perfectly describes or depicts the given theme.
RULES:
Teams of maximum 2 people can participate in the event.
There can be at most 2 entries for the competition by a particular team.
Teams must get themselves registered any time after the opening of the event, and must submit the entries before the deadline.
Participants are required to bring their own digital cameras.
The photograph should be submitted with a suitable title.
Minimum size for the photograph is 1200 * 800 pixels. But, larger sizes are advisable.
The photograph should be original work of the participant.
The snaps must not be compiled altogether on Photoshop, but can be digitally enhanced by post-processing (only in terms of tweaking contrast, sharpness etc)
PICASSO'S PALETTE
This is a painting (canvas / paper) competition. Theme for the paintings will be given on spot
Participation – Individual participation
Inventory – All required inventory (paints, canvas, brushes etc.) will be provided, however the participants can get their own inventory if they wish to.
Each entry will be judged on the basis of creativity, skill and relevance to theme.

POEM A PIC We bring to you a chance to let loose the spontaneous poet within you. Convert the thoughts you have on watching the video we present to you into a mind-blowing piece of poetry.
Rules:
Participants are required to write a poem on a video we present at the beginning.
No teams are allowed. This is strictly an individual event.
A time of two hours will be given to complete the poem, during which the video will be continuously played on loop.
Participants are required to bring a pen along with them.
PROVE YOUR POINT
This is a creative writing competition, where the
contestants can express their ideas for or against a

The form of expression can be anything – stories,
paragraphs, poems, dialogues etc.

REVERTIGO
This event will have an assortment of known games as
various stages. The games will run in either the forward or
backward direction. One of the rounds in this event is Anti
quiz - the round in which the teams get to quiz a pre-
selected panel (of quizzers). Teams receive points for every
question which the panel is not able to answer.

Here’s an investigative journalism event that tests your
skills of
reasoning and judgement. The crime has been done and the
suspects are laid out. The solution to the mystery now lies
in your hands. A brief description of the crime scene and
the characters central to the plot will be given. A press
conference would be held subsequently where you can the
question the suspects. So go ahead and solve the crime.
Who Knows? You might be Sherlock Holmes in the making.
SPLASH
This is a face and hand painting event.
Participation – Teams of maximum 3 members
The event requires one of the participants face /
hand /or any other visible body part to be painted
and at the end of the competition each team has to
present and explain their idea and work to a panel of
judges. Time for this presentation is 1 min per team.
Inventory – All the required inventory will be
provided.
Judgment will be based on creativity, beauty and the
final presentation.

This is a competition that would test the participants’ knowledge of the world of advertisements. After a written elimination round, the finals would consist of various rounds which would primarily test the teams on ad-related trivia, and also their creativity and innovation.

Over the years, the Informalz Treasure Hunt has drawn
immense footfall from the outstation candidates and
BITSian junta alike-and it has never disappointed. The
clues are anything between difficult and very difficult,
ranging from anagrams to crypts, requiring pure general
awareness as well as sheer mathematical aptitude! The fact
that it is spread all over the campus makes it all the more
exciting! Think you know your campus inside out? Think
again!
RULES:
No limit on the number of team members.
Teams are required to crack a series of clues before
emerging the worthy winners.
Each clue points to a landmark in the campus which is
the source for their next clue.
Outstation teams will be guided by our volunteers to
the destinations after they crack the clue.
The first team to crack all the clues clinches the title.

TRIATHLON
The Matrix Triathlon is back in a bigger, better avatar. As
the name suggests, the Triathlon is an amalgamation of
three tasks, which involve wits, courage and presence of
mind.
Be it racking your brains or performing challenging tasks,
you have to be on your toes to nail this one. Coordinating

with your team will be key, if you are planning to ace the
Matrix Triathlon.

The three rounds of the event may be simultaneously
running, requiring teams to split up.
Based on their performance, teams will be awarded

The team with the maximum cumulative score shall

TRUE COLOUR
This event is a sketching event; however the
participants can choose to use crayons.
All the inventory required will be provided.
Participation – teams of maximum 2 , individual
participation is also permitted.
Judgment will be based on beauty, skill and clarity of
the sketch.
The theme for the contest will be declared on the
spot.

CHOREO
Expression. Emotions. Symphony. Motion. Witness them all
this OASIS. CHOREO is all set to provide you a stage to
unleash your imagination, show your dancing skills, depict a
theme, embrace all human emotions and strike a chord
with the audience.
RULES:
Teams can have a maximum of 14 participants.
One entry per college.
Teams are expected to portray a theme through
dance and choreography.
Time limit of 10 minutes including write-up (curtain
to curtain). Negative points for exceeding the time
limit.
There will be an elimination round.
Folk and classical dances are not allowed.
Lyrics are not allowed in the sound track. However, a
short write-up describing the theme may be read
before the performance. The write-up should be in
printed form.
All props must be specified to the Coordinator of
DoT. Use of props is highly discouraged and can
result in negative points or even disqualification. (For
definition of “prop” please refer to the note given
below).
On-Stage rehearsal slots will be provided to the short
listed teams. Teams are expected to use these slots
for finalizing lights cues and so on.
Backstage helpers should not exceed 6. Two team
members must be present to provide cues for music
and lights.
Lighting of candles, matches or cigarettes on stage is
not allowed and will result in disqualification.
Teams are requested to confirm their participation in
advance by emailing to [email protected],
Teams should report to the DoT room immediately
after registration at the Controlz booth.
Teams must bring 2 CDs and a pendrive containing
their sound track. One CD is to be submitted at the

time of eliminations. The soundtrack should be in

DESERT DUEL Desert duel is an event that brings out individual brilliance among participants and tests their mettle in dance. It is a solo dance event in which dancers from every college participate and showcase their talent. Since this is a solo event, it gives the dancer a lot of freedom in the steps/moves/stunts he/she chooses to perform. Depending on the dancer, styles can vary from western to classical to hip-hop and even to the typical Bollywood style. Event 1:
A maximum of 6 entries per college.
Individual participation
The event comprises eliminations followed by finals. Eliminations:

The participants will be divided into groups (3 or 4 participants per group)
Group-wise, every group will start dancing to the same song with its assigned participants together on stage.
Some people of each group will be selected for stage 2.
STAGE 2:
The people who have entered into stage 2 will also be grouped now into groups of three or four and the same process continues till we finally have one last person
standing. The last person standing will have the maximum number of points and the others will be marked relatively.
The later he/she gets eliminated the more number of
points he/she will get.
RAZZMATAZZ The winds of Oasis spawn the most creative and popular event: the dance extravaganza Razzmatazz. You'll see the best college troupes dancing on stage, trying to better their previous performances and competing with others for the prestigious first prize in this fiercely competed event. The event is judged by an eminent personality in the field of professional dance. RULES:
Maximum of 12 participants per team.
There will be 3 rounds.
The event comprises eliminations followed by finals.
ELIMINATIONS:

Teams will be judged on the basis of their own prepared sequence.
Teams need to show all the props which they might be using in their performance.
Teams also need to show at least a single set of costumes they will be wearing for their performance
Props using fire are strictly prohibited. Round 1: Group Dance (Prepared Sequence)
Minimum six dancers on stage.
No lead dancer, no solo performance.
Time limit (excluding briefing time) - Max: 6 min. Min: 3 min.
All forms of dance allowed.
Weightage for costumes, music, choreography and coordination.
Fusion allowed.
Negative marking on exceeding time limit and disqualification on exceeding the number of participants.
No weightage will be given for props. However, prior permission is required for their usage.
Get your own CD/pendrive with music for the dance.
No audio cassettes will be allowed.
Round 2: Footloose
(On the Spot Adaptation)
The music will keep changing, you will have to adapt to the beat.
Organizers will provide music on the spot.
There will have to be at least 3 dancers on stage at all times.
Time limit: Max: 3 min, Min: 1 min (Left to the discretion of the organizers)
Weightage will be given for adaptation to change of music and pace of beat, coordination and choreography.
No props allowed.
Round 3: Prop Round
(Improvised use of props)
The organizers will provide props and music.
Props will be decided through lots at the end of Round 1.
STREET DANCE
B-boys and girls, show us what you’re made of!

RULES:
Minimum 5 & maximum 12 dancers per team.
One entry per college.
The duration of the performance should be 5-10 min.
Teams must bring 2 CDs and a pendrive containing
their soundtrack. One CD is to be submitted at the
time of eliminations. The soundtrack should be in
.mp3 format.
Teams should bring their own portable music systems
for practice.
The dance floor area must be in the same condition
after the performances as before.
No props will be provided. Teams may use props if
they want, for which prior permission from the
Coordinator of DoT is necessary. Negative points for
props usage without permission.
Participant should show the freestyle of Street
Dance. Power movements, acrobatics, etc. are
admissible, but they should not dominate.
Individuality and originality of the dance is
encouraged as well as interaction and contact with
the spectators and the other dancers.
Dancers are not restricted from performing any move
but they must be aware that it is their own
responsibility to ensure that they do not perform
dangerous moves that could injure themselves or
others. Co-ordinators have the right to bring in safety
restrictions.
Lighting of candles, matches or cigarettes on stage is
not allowed and will result in disqualification.
Teams should report to DoT room immediately after
registration at Controlz booth.
In case of situations which have been not described
in rules, decision taken by judges will be final.

TANDAV
Tandav is open to the following styles of dance: Oddisi,
Kathak, Kuchipudi, Bharathanatyam, Manipuri, Kathakali
and Mohiniattam.
RULES:
Participants are expected to perform in full costume,
which should be brought by them.
Participants should not switch styles in between
rounds.
This is a solo event comprising of the following
rounds:
Laya – A recital in the respective style for a
maximum of 7 minutes. Participants should
bring the music track for which they are going
to dance for in their own pen drive/CD/
cassette.
Rasa – Depiction of a given situation for 3
minutes.
Tala – Performing to a 30 second percussion
sequence which shall be made known few
minutes before the round.

THE OASIS
CHAMPIONSHIP
It all comes down to this. The victor, standing triumphant
over his vanquished opponents, ensconced in a blaze of
glory. Which college shall lay claim to this highly sought
after title? Which college shall out-perform, out-wit and
out-match the rest? Amidst the howling desert winds and
revelling insomniacs, we shall crown the college that came,
saw and kicked ass; the champions of OASIS 2010.
• All outstation colleges are allowed to participate in the
Oasis Championship. BITS, Pilani will not be a participant.
• Colleges will gain points by winning an event.
• The college with the maximum number of points will be
declared the winner.
• A college receives points only on winning the first position
in an event.
For the purpose of competition, the events have been
divided into three groups:
1. MELCHIOR:
• 100 points for a win
2. BALTHAZAR:
• 60 points for a win
3. SALMANAZAR:
• 40 points for a win

INFORMATION
Certificate Policy is the sole responsibility of the Department of Controlz. CONVEYANCE
Travelling by car/taxi from Delhi/Jaipur: Distance is 200 or 220 km depending on route taken and takes about 4.5 hours.
Travelling by bus from Delhi: In case you prefer to travel by public transport, you need to catch a bus at the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT), Kashmiri Gate, Delhi. There are frequent buses to Pilani starting from Delhi around 5:40 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Travelling by bus from Jaipur: In case you prefer to travel by public transport, you need to catch a bus from the State Bus Terminal (Sindhi Camp), Jaipur. There are frequent buses to Pilani starting from Jaipur around 4:00 AM till mid-night.
Travelling by train from Jaipur: Train from Jaipur to Chirawa (16 km from Pilani) or Loharu (26 km from Pilani).
REGISTRATION DETAILS If your institute would like to participate in OASIS 2010 you are required to identify a Group Leader from your contingent who will be responsible for the actions of the entire team and shall be involved in all the correspondence with the StuCCAn (Head), Publications & Correspondence. The group leader must send contact the StuCCAn (Head), Publications & Correspondence (details given below), with the following information:

E-mail address of the Group Leader:
Expected number of participants: A list of events the participants propose to take part in with the number of students (names not required) participating in each event must be included
Taking into account the overall response from colleges across the country, the Organizing Committee will specify a maximum number of students from your institute who may participate in OASIS 2010. Your group leader will receive a mail from StuCCAn (Head), Publications & Correspondence specifying the final number of confirmed students. Each Group Leader is required to

take a print out of the list and get it signed by the Head of the Institution or the Dean.
They are required to bring this print out (original) at the time of the registration (Else the College shall be disallowed from the same).You are required to send a fax (to the number specified in the mail sent by us) on the official letter head of your institute confirming your participation in our fest. The letter must contain:
1. The names of confirmed students participating in each event.
2. A break-up of the number of boys and girls in your contingent.
3. A statement that the listed students are bona fide students of the institution and are permitted to represent the institution in OASIS 2010
4. The signature of the head of your institution Without the below mentioned documents your college will not be allowed to enter the campus or participate in any event. The printout of the confirmation letter mailed to you
by StuCCAn (Head), PCr signed by the head of your institution.
The original letter, containing the details of students participating, faxed to us by you must be retained and produced at the time of registration.
College identity card of each participant is a must. Two passport/stamp size photographs of each
participant are also needed. Please note that only colleges that have been given a
letter of confirmation of acceptance by Head Publications & Correspondence earlier are assured of admission into the BITS Pilani campus. Colleges that have not confirmed their participation will not be granted admission.
A non-refundable registration fee is to be paid by all the outstation participants in cash or through demand drafts. Demand drafts must be in favour of BITS-Pilani, OASIS-2010 and must be payable at UCO Bank, Pilani or State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, Pilani.
Entry in any event is primarily done on a first come first serve basis. Some events require prior registration.
Note: All outstation participants are required to register immediately on arrival at the Controlz booth. Participation in any event will be allowed only after registration.

ACCOMMODATION
Refundable caution deposit per participant shall be charged. Details will be mentioned soon.
Free lodging for all the participants. Accommodation will be provided in the hostel common rooms and boarding at student messes.
Required accessories, per common room basis, will be provided at rooms beforehand itself.
If any of the items, provided in common rooms, found damaged or misplaced participants will be charged accordingly.
Each participant must provide his/her latest identification card and the team bona fide certificate attested by the head of the institution. The failure of the participant to provide the identification card will result in disallowing of registration.
Teams are required to produce their confirmation letter at the time of registration.
Accommodation facilities will be provided from 0900 Hrs 22nd October till 0900 Hrs 27th October 2010. Hence teams should make their arrangements accordingly.
OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION
Events and Prizes are subject to cancellation according to participation, the decision of the organizers will be final and binding.
Food will be provided at the students’ messes, coupons for which can be purchased at the Controlz booth
Vehicles will not be allowed inside campus. Vehicles can be parked outside the institute premises. The organizing body shall not be held responsible in the event of damage to or theft of the vehicle.
