This song was written many years ago and has been used in Va

and Sunday School song books. For some reason it popped into my head one day and I looked ubegan thinking about what the song says. It is a reminder, not juall of us to guard what goes in and out of our minds. We receive information through our eyes and ears, then processact on it with our hands, feet and mouths. This is a song for eachto make wise choices about what we read, our listening choicesact on the information or thoughts. It is up to us to monitor what comes into our minds and concentrthe best. The verse that comes to mind is from Philippians:

Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your tating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gbest, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praisecurse. Philippians 4:8 The Message

As we move through the month of February, may we take time tocomes in and what goes out of our minds and hearts!

    Blessings, Pastor Linda

    UMW Notes:

We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting our annual UMW Spring Luncheon on Sat-urday, March 29thfrom 11am-1pm. The event is free and all women of the United MethodistChurch are welcome. Following the lunch, out guest speaker will be Cindy Speck. Cindy is afaith based ventriloquist who gives a very humorous and heartfelt performance. We also will

be entertained by our very own OUMC Bell Choir under the direction of Jessica Jacka. PleaseRSVP to the church office by Wed. March 26th if you plan on attending.

With Spring around the corner, its time to start thinking about Spring Cleaning and getting rid

of items you no longer have use for. Remember, one mans trash is another mans treas-ure. We will be holding the Spring Indoor Yard Sale in April and will be accepting donationscloser to the event. Also, with the new Clothes Collection Box in the parking lot, the UMW ispleased to see the profit go to the Churchs General Fund. Therefore we will not be including aclothing sale at the Spring indoor yard sale this year. We encourage everyone to clean out thoseclosets to donate to the Collection Box. Every pound helps!

    Yours in Christ,

    HOPE CIRCLE BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP

Hope Circle will meet on Monday, February 10th at 7:00 PM in theparlor. Wonder,by R.J. Palacio, is a book written for 5 ththrough7thgraders that is being read by many adult reading groups. Iwon't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's

probably worse. This is how August Pullman, a 5 thgrader transi-tioning from home schooling to a mainstreamed classroom de-scribes himself. August was born with a severe facial deformity. Will he make friends? Will others be able to see beyond his de-formity? Told by multiple narrators, the author calls her book ameditation on kindness that illustrates how a community struggles

with empathy and compassion. Please consider joining us for thishour of fellowship and discussion.

    TIME!

The Trustees and Endowment Committees are asking you to keep themin mind when having your taxes done this year or taking a distributionfrom your IRA.

The Trustees are asking members of the church to donate towards the major mainte-nance fund to fortify future maintenance funding needs. The Trustees graciously askthat members who receive tax refunds consider donating a portion directly to the ma-jor maintenance fund via the offering envelopes provided in pews and in the churchoffice. These funds will enable the Trustees to continue to maintain the church andupgrade specific portions of the building that need attention. Last year we were fortu-nate that many construction projects were accomplished because of the nature of ourinsurance policy and also the generosity of many congregation members. The Trus-tees are grateful for any and all donations that they will receive.

TaxAct: IRA-to-Charity Exclusion (2013 Tax Law)

The IRA qualified charitable distribution (QCD) provision has been extended. If you

are age 70 1/2 or older, this exclusion allows you to make direct distributions fromyour traditional IRA to a charity without recognizing the distribution as income. (Youcannot, however, take a charitable deduction on your income tax.) Ordinarily onewould have to pay taxes as though this distribution were income.

This means that if you are required to take a distribution for 2013 and do not need thefunds, you can donate all or a portion of the distribution to the church.

Here are some areas into which you can direct your funds:1. The Endowment Fund Investment Account.2. To the various funds overseen by Trustees: MMRF (Major Maintenance RepairFund); the Organ Fund; the Memorial Fund; the Memorial Investment Fund - EdwardJones; Memorial Music Fund.3. You could choose a line item in the General Fund Budget which is near and dear toyour heart and direct the funds there.

Please see Jim Anderson (Trustees) or Donna Deturck (Endowment Committee) withany questions you may have.
