Science

This week, we are starting our new topic about electricity. Information about what electricity is can be found at https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z2882hv/articles/zcwnv9q.

For their task this week, your child needs to learn about a range of appliances and investigate which appliances rely on mains electricity and which are powered by batteries. They will then need to produce a Venn diagram to organise appliances into mains and battery powered. Can they think of any appliances that would be found in the middle section of the diagram? Can they explain what is how an appliance can be either mains or battery?

English Ongoing Tasks

For your ongoing English task this week, try to set aside 15 minutes each day to read a book of your choice.

When you have finished your book, you could write a book review of what you have read to summarise the story.

Maybe you could draw your favourite character and write a description of them. Try to include expanded noun phrases.

Activity 1

Our new Geography topic for this year is all about where we live. To start with, we look at where in the world we live, first identifying the continent then the country. Discussion should then turn to the North East of England and think about our local area, including its history and traditions.

Task: Design a cover page for our new topic. It must be bright and colourful, have a clearly visible title ‘Where we live,’ and include picture(s) to celebrate our local area.

Try typing the school into Google Earth and explore where in the world we are from:

This week, explore Cosmic Kids Yoga. Which is your favourite routine? Why?

P.S.H.E

In school, we have been discussing what makes us an amazing person. Look at the worksheet below and discuss the questions to explore what makes you an amazing person.

Activity 2

For R.E., children need to remind themselves of the following religions: Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Sikhism. Information can be found on BBC Bitesize, as well as Primary Homework Help.

After they have revised the religions, your child should look at the cartoon map below. Can they identify any symbols of different religions that they can see in the image? There are a wide variety of symbols to identify, meaning the image could provoke some excellent discussion not just about the cartoon but also about symbols in the local area.
