contrary to the c loudy sunday morning the goal of 10 gorgeous ful l f igured women were vis ib le. they were there wi th the mission to be crown top at th is year ’s big beaut i fu l Woman pageant, being held at the renaissance hotel , lo-cated at the phi ladelphia air port . the bount i fu l beaut ies were there to be crowned the best in the c i ty and oak lane’s own J. rayna smith was a tough contender.

the big beaut i fu l Women pag-eant is a pageant cater ing to the phi l ly ’ p lus s ize pret t ies. the pageant is for women aging from 18 on up and sizes 14 on up. the promoter and creator is dave Wilkes. he in i t ia l ly started the pageant because of an idea of a f r iend and the fr iend decided not to cont inue mr. Wi lkes was then unsure that he was going to

cont inue “after the f i rst year of the pageant and the joy i t brought on the ladies faces i had to cont inue” (Wi lkes) . there are four categor ies in the pageant, Formal, l inger ie, talent and evening wear. the big beaut i fu l Women pageant has been up and running for 11 years and women coming out of the pageant has grown to become plus s ize models , makeup art ist and more important ly more conf ident and accept ing in their own skin. the pageant gives the women the message that you are beaut i fu l and have no need to change who you are.

J. rayna smith is an arthur, actress pr consul tant. she is a resident of oaklane and loves the area. she bel ieves the area she l ives in is a perfect b lend of peace and conf l ic t to igni te her creat ive surface. she decided to compete in the pageant because she bel ieved in their mission and she loved the exper ience.
