The State Scholarships Foundation (l"K.Y.) announces that it will offer up to fiftv five (55)

scholarships to nationals (foreigners or of Greek origin) of Balkan and Eastern Luropean

countries (non-member states of the European Union), Asia, Africa and Latin America and

thirtv five (35) scholarships to nationals {foreigners or/of Greek origin) of the European Union

Member States, lceland, Norway, Switzerland, U.S.A., Canada, Japan and Oceania, for studies

CATEGORIES AND DURATION OF THE SCHOLARSHIPS:

a. Postgraduate studies as follows:

i) Master's Degree (one (L) vear up to three (3) vears). The first year of scholarship is to

cover exclusively Modern Greek Language courses in a school of Modern Greek

Language, at a State Greek University, when its knowledge is not adequate.

ii) Doctorate (PhD) (one (1) vear up to three (3) vears). Under exceptional circumstances

an additional year may be granted for those PhD students who are on the writing phase

of their thesis, with no additional expenses from the LK.Y., but with an extended by one

University for prospective PhD applicants. This postgraduate degree is not a prerequisite

for the following categories:. specialisation in the Fine Arts (d. category). collection of research data (e, category)r those who are legally residents in Greece whilst undertaking PhD'stud' ies.- Applicants for postdoctoral rbsearch studies must hold a doctoraldegree (PhD) completed

at a foreign or a Greek University. However, their graduate degree (Bachelor) should be

from a foreign University. -

- For further education (in the following specific subject areas of study: Greek Language,

Literature, Philosophy, History and Art), applicants should be professors in a Department

of Greek studies at a foreign University. A certified document from this Department

The scholarship is strictlv offered for postgraduate/doctoral studies and not for work or

7. Have never been on a scholarship foi ' this same category from the l"K.Y.

8. llave not undertaken studies on a scholarship provided by any Greek authority.

Prioritv will be eiven to applicants who:

i) have already established a contact with a Greek University / academic prior to their

application.

ii) have a knowledge of the Greek language.

Applicants meeting the above requirements bv the application deadline should submitthrough the Greek Diplomatic Authorities in their country of residence (or in a neighbouringcountry in case of absence of a Greek Embassy or Consulate in their country) the followingdocuments:

2. An up-to-date curriculum vitae-3. Transcripts of previous University studies (undergraduate and postgraduate) and certified

copies of the degrees obtained. Please ensure that all qualifications gained at degree (i.e.university) level and above are included

4. A document from.the University where they have completed their studies, stating theduration of their studies.

5. A formal letter {or relative certificate},indicating the very good command -both writtenand oral- of English or French (in case of non native speakers).

6. Two (2) letters of reference, of two (2) academics from a Greek or foreign university.References must be submitted in Greek, English or Frenth.

7. A research proposal with the topic (for doctoral and postdoctoral candidates).8. A formal letter from a foreign University Department (for those conducting a PhD in their

11. A recent national hospital certificate or a certificate from the relevant health servicestating that the applicant does not suffer from any infectious diseases.

Applicants must already hold their degrees at the time of subnnission of their applicationfiles. Expected degrees not awarded bv the specified deadline will not be taken intoconsideration.

lf documentation is not in English, French or Greek, a certified translation into Greek orEnglish must be supplied. ln addition, documents numbered 3,4,8 and 11 should be certifiedby the Greek Diplomatic Authorities (the Greek Embassy or Consutate), only in cases where

the candidate's state of origin is not a member of the Hague Convention (Apostille) of 5October 196l abolishing the requirement of legalisation for foreign public documents.

The scholarships for doctoral studies include as well: a) up to 300,00€ (net amount - taxesare excluded which are paid by thir; F*nrrial i ; in) tc cpver binding and photocopying costs ofthe PhD thesis at the end of the scholarship and b) up to 300,00€ inet amount - taxes areexcluded which are paid by this Foundation) to cover research costs (e.g. consumables) if suchexpenses are required by the programme of studies.- No support is provided for travel expenses, conferences, seminars, symposia or researchactivities.

- No addit ional assistance or funds are provided for the spouse or other dependants of thescholarship holder ( i f you plan to bring your family with you, you wil l need to consider cosrissues careful ly).

- The scholarship wil l be withheld for periods spent outside Greece without the priorpermission of this Foundation.

3. Timing of scholarshipThe scholarship cannot start during summer months, The scholarship begins after thecandidate's arrival in, Greece, provided that he/she:

studies or specialisation in the Fine Arts as proved by a formal letter issued by the

relevant Department of the University concerned.For the beneficiaries whose duration of studies is more than one (1) year, and fol lowing

completion of their first vear of studies they have to supply their full .registration, while thePhD candidates in part icular are requested to submit a cert i f icate indicating their ful lregistration to PhD level along with the assignment of the Three Member Committee and theirt i t le for the thesis. They need as well to submit to the l.K.Y. a cert i f icate stating that their f irstdegree or their postgraduate degree is recognized as equivalent by the Greek state. TheHellenic National Academic Recognit ion and Informative Centre (D.O.A.T.A.P. - HellenicNARIC) is to be contacted for advice.b) For postdoctoral studies and further education (in the Greek Languaee. Literature

Philosophv and Art), a Greek academic or a research centre has agreed to supervisehis/her research studies.

Cahciidates (and not the academic supervisor accepting them at the Greek University)are responsible for the commencement of their scholarship and are required to submit tothe l.K.Y. complete documentation.

4. Candidate holders who have been selected to fol low a PhD programme and by the start

date of their scholarship have already been awarded their PhD degree may use this scholarship

for postdoctoral studies. The duration and f inancial support wil l be those of the

5. Scholarship holders are entit led to work with remuneration, while they are on ascholarship grant, prnvided that rhe work does ncrt interfere with their studies The third-country nationals are only permitted to work part-time, with regard to provisions of the

legislation concerned.

Beneficiaries are expected to leave the country once the specific purpose of their stay is

fulf i l led.

6. The l.K.Y. is ful ly entit lecl tr: immediately end the scholarship in the event scholarshipholders:a) Have made a false or incomplete statement on their application f i le.

b) Suffer from a dangerous disease for the public health.

c) Are in receipt of a scholarship from another source in this same period.

d) Do not comply with the terms and condit ions of the scholarship.

e) Have been subjected to disciplinary action by the University or have no prospect foracademic achievement (e.g.fai lure to achieve a satisfactorv level in the Greek languaAeor in their major f ield of studies).

f) Leave Greece (for a short or a long period) -for any reason- without having previously

informed in writ ing the LK.Y.

J. OBLIGATIONS OF THE SCHOLARS

1) During their studies scholars have to submit to the l.K.Y. the fol lowing documents:

i. - A certificate of having successfullv completed the examination (level At at least) in the

modern Greek language (prior to the end of the f irst year of the scholarship). This is a

prerequisite for the categories a. and d.- A Certificate of attainment (proficiencv) in Modern Gre'ek Language (prior to the end of

the first year of the scholarship) applicable only for the beneficiaries of the a. catesorv of. scholarships who are fol lowing Master courses or PhD studies in the Greek languaRe,

unless otherwise provided by the relevant University Department.

ii. A progress report on their studies signed by their supervisor (at the end of each

semester).

i i i . An annual transcript result (applicable for Master's students) issued by the relevant

University. Departmenr.or an annual progress report (applicable for the PhD students)

signed by thethree members of the supervisory committee.

All the above-mentioned documents along with a request form are to be submitted

by the scholars, which are absolutely necessary for the renewal of their scholarship.

Otherwise, the l.K.Y. has the right to proceed to the interruption of the scholarship

' iv. Scholarship holders may spend a short period of time outside Greece for research

purposes, always with the written agreement of their supervisor and by permission of the

Administrative Board of this Foundation prior to their departure'

2) At the end of their programme of studies, scholars must submit to the l.K.Y. a certified

copy of the academic degr:ee they have obtained, if any, as well as a copy of their Master's

dissertatigrr or a copy of their PhD thesis (e. scnciarship calogary). Scholatstrip holders nf the

categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) must submit a detai led f inal report signed by their supervisor.
