ANNUAL DWMBC WOMEN’S
RETREAT TO BE HELD
The Women’s Ministry of Dorcas Wills Memorial Baptist Church will be hosting a Women’s Retreat on Friday, February 23rd and Saturday, February 24th at Trinity Pines Conference Center in Trinity, Texas.
This is such a great time for the ladies of our church to get away from their daily schedules and have time together in fellowship with one another and to have quiet time alone with the Father. The conference center provides fabulous places to have some serene quiet time.
The theme of the retreat this year is “It’s About Time”. The speaker will be Rebecca Nix….wife, mother, teacher and speaker. She currently serves alongside her pastor-husband, Michael, at Dolen Baptist Church in Cleveland, Texas supporting him and ministering as church pianist. Suzanne Kitts and the New Song Band will be serving as our worship leaders.
The cost of the retreat is $70 for those spending the night and will include three meals. If you wish
MISSION OUTREACH TO HAITI The Missions Team is in the process of possibly planning a Mission Trip to Haiti this summer with David Wong for College Students and Adults through Coreluv.
Coreluv ministers to children placed in the care of orphanages.
Please be praying for these efforts and for those that may begin praying about going to serve. God is good.
Gear Up! Get Ready! Game On!

January 16th will long be etched into my memory. Last month on that date I battled the snow and ice while taking Jen-na to the airport for her trip back to Virginia. That same date thirteen years ago found me driving in snow and ice as well. Along with many others I battled the unexpected “flurries” that ended up being a major weather event in Southeastern Virginia. At one point, local radio broadcasts were announcing upward of 100 accidents related to the snow, and that was only the ones reported for the I-64 road system. Unfortunately, I was right in the middle of the traffic nightmare.
At 1:45 in the afternoon I departed my home to go preach a funeral in Portsmouth. The roads were already snow-covered, but I thought they would be clear by the time I made the fifteen-minute drive to Windsor (the closest town on the journey). Not so. I battled the snow and icy conditions all the way to the Bowers Hill (some forty-five minutes away) before getting any relief. At one point my car lost traction and I spun 180 degrees before I could regain control of the vehicle. I know what you are thinking…no I wasn’t going too fast. At least I didn’t think so by the way others were passing me.
By the time I arrived to preach the funeral I was a nervous wreck. I sat down, collected myself, lead the funeral ser-vice, visited briefly with the family, and then prepared myself for the journey back home. Of course, by then, the system had progressed all the way to the coast so there was no break from the icy conditions. I got back into the car and braced myself for the less than enjoyable journey back home. What normally would have taken me about forty-five minutes turned in to a mini-marathon lasting over two hours. When I arrived home, my leg ached from having to press the clutch so many times in the stop and go traffic, but I was home and had arrived in one piece!
My experience reminded me of something I already knew…a five-speed Mustang with an oversized engine is not a good car to be driving during a snow storm! Normally I wouldn’t have attempted the trip in the Mustang, but circumstances and a prior commitment forced my hand. Oh, but life works that way sometimes, doesn’t it?
We can put ourselves in the best possible situations. We can prepare ourselves to take care of our responsibili-ties. We can act with wisdom when things don’t go exactly how we planned. And yet even taking these precautions, we may find ourselves spinning out of control, literally going the wrong way down a one-way highway. So, what then?
I’ll tell you the “what then” for me. As I was spinning, I noticed that I was being passed by a car to my left. I could also see that a car was merging onto the highway from the right. I continued trying to regain control of the vehicle, but I real-ized at that moment that the situation was beyond my control. I quietly said, “Please help me Lord.” To the delight of the other drivers God took control of my car and righted my direction. Did I want that? Yes, of course. Was I trying my best to get things straightened out? Without a doubt. But what I hadn’t done was turn the situation over to God.
Please be encouraged by my experience. When we are struggling, wanting things to work out is not enough. When we don’t have the answers, just trying harder will not make things better. Worry is never the answer. The “what then” for us is to turn our doubts, fears, and questions over to God. Isaiah 50:10 encourages us, “…Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.” Proverbs 18:10 reminds us, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
We all have those moments of darkness. Instead of running away, why not run to Him? He’ll be there for you. I promise…but even more God’s Word tells us so!
Run to The Tower….. Pastor Greg

REQUESTS FOR CHILDCARE
As the new year begins, we would like to inform all or-ganizations that when requesting childcare for an event, all requests must be received a week prior to the start of the event. Thank you for your cooperation.
Our youth are busy getting back into the swing of school after the holi-days. The remainder of January was full of semes-ter tests and preparing for various academic competi-tions. The weekend of January 26/27 was Hot Hearts - which is always a big hit with our youth - providing great speakers and concerts. After that, our eyes and efforts turn toward camp! This year, they will be attending Mfuge – a missions based camp – based at Houston Baptist University. We will begin fundraising in the next few weeks to help offset the cost of camp
and would appreciate your participation! Also, on the forefront for our college students is the opportunity for a summer mission trip abroad. Please be in prayer as to how you will engage alongside them in this life-changing opportunity! Last, but not least, please be in prayer for the youth workers that have stepped in to provide leadership during our time without a youth minister. God al-ready knows the person that will fill this role for us and the team is excited at the prospect of meeting them!
The Aspire Women’s Con-ference is coming to Col-lege Station, Texas on Fri-day, May 4th, 2018. Cen-tral Baptist Church will be hosting the event. The evening will begin at 7:00 PM. Author, speaker and sing-er, Sheila Walsh along with speaker and comedi-
an Anita Renfroe will be leading the event. Mia Koehne will be leading in worship. If we are able to gather a group of 10 or more the cost will be $20 per per-son. If you are interested in attending, please contact Emily in the church office to sign up.
