Worship Notes

Christmas (a holy day of obligation) falls on a

Monday this year, so please take note of the following

in chronological order. It is necessary to attend TWO

Masses in order to satisfy both the Sunday/Sabbath

obligation and the Christmas holy day obligation.

●Vigil Masses on Saturday, December 23 (4:00,

5:00, and 7:30) satisfy the Sunday/Sabbath obligation

and do not satisfy the Christmas obligation.

●Sunday Masses on December 24 at 7:00, 9:00,

10:00, 11:00, and 12:00 noon satisfy the Sunday/

Sabbath obligation and do not satisfy the Christmas

obligation.

●Christmas Vigil Masses on Sunday, December 24

at 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, 7:30, 9:00 and 11:00 satisfy

the Christmas obligation and do not satisfy the Sun-

day/Sabbath obligation.

●For example, if one goes to the Saturday, Decem-

ber 23 Mass at 4:00 and the Sunday, December 24

Mass at 4:00, then that person has satisfied the Sun-

day/Sabbath obligation and the Christmas holy day

obligation.

●For example, if one goes to the Sunday, Decem-

ber 24 Mass at 4:00 and to no other Mass on Sunday

morning the 24th nor to a Vigil Mass on Saturday the

23rd, then that person has satisfied the Christmas obli-

gation but not the Sunday /Sabbath obligation and that

person should go to Confession as soon as possible

thereafter.

●The Christmas obligation and the Sunday/

Sabbath obligation are two separate obligations.

●Since the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God on

Monday January 1, 2018 is not a holy day of obliga-

tion this coming year, our Sunday evening Masses on

Sunday, December 31, 2017 at 4:00 and 7:30 will be

Sunday Masses satisfying the Sunday obligation and

not holy day Vigil Masses. We will however have two

Masses on Monday, January 1, 2018: at 8:00 A.M. as

usual and also at 12:00 Noon. There will be no 7:00

P.M. Mass on Monday, January 1, 2018.

●There will be no scheduled Confessions prior to

the Christmas Eve Vigil Masses, Christmas Day Mass-

es, and January 1 Masses. If a special need for Confes-

sion occurs on those dates, arrangements can be made

by contacting Fr. Butler, Fr. Nillo, or any one of our

visiting priests. Please consult the bulletin for special

extra times for Confession during the Advent Season.

Our Christmas Outing 2017

On Sunday, December 17 a group from St. Michael’s took a bus trip to Princeton. The day began with Mass in the Chapel at Princeton University, then the group headed to McCarter Theatre for a buffet supper and to see a production of the Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol.”

Volunteer Christmas Dinner

St. Michael’s conducted its Annual Volunteer Christmas Dinner on Dec. 10 in the Lower Church.. Thank you to our volunteers who worked so hard to put this evening together, and thank you to all of our volunteers who serve and support our parish!

PATHWAY TO HEAL Divorced, Widowed, and Separated

Group

"May you know the beauty of the season, Merry

Christmas. Have a peaceful and a wonderful New

Year."

During this wonderful season there is always the

opportunity for the blues to arrive. Try and find

the middle ground. Change it up. Make new tradi-

tions. Do something different, something new. Go

to Mass and confession..

St. Michael's has a group for those that need sup-

port with life's new paths and journeys. The

PATHWAY TO HEAL Group is a ministry for

widowed, separated, and divorced persons.

Our group is here to help those who may be new to

the emotional stresses of separation and loss in

your world. If you need a place to come and feel

safe please plan on attending our group.

Thursday, January 11th & 25th, 2018

7:00PM - St. Michael's Living Room

6 West End Court. Long Branch, NJ

Please Join Us. All Are Welcomed.

The following is a letter that Toni Seinfield recently re-

ceived from Elyse Buongiorno, Executive Director of

Eagles UP! that we would like to share with you.

Toni,

Jamie Plantamura is a role model to the children in the

Youth Ministry. Her continued support for our military

men and women is appreciated by our heroes. Jamie and

the youth group’s generous donations for the children of

our military, “Little Heroes at Home,” exceeded our ex-

pectations. Jamie Plantamura, the Youth Group’s coordi-

nator, has a wonderful rapport with the children. She

was able to convey to the group the significance of our

military and the great sacrifices they and their families

endure to protect our freedom.

With gratitude Eagles Up! Would like to express the

importance of your support for the families of our brave

men and women. Our troops and their families face

many sacrifices before, during and after their return.

Your contributions are greatly appreciated and have

helped the families of the troops.

Eagles Up! Would not be able to complete our mis-

sion without your generous donations. Thank you for

your support.

Sincerely,

Elyse Buongiorno

Executive Director

MARCH FOR LIFE – 2018 Mass at St. Jerome’s Church at 6:00 a.m.

Depart St. Jerome’s parking lot at 6:30 a.m. Return to St. Jerome’s parking lot at appx. 9:30 p.m.

The March for Life began as a small demonstration in 1973 and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-

life event in the world. The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary

every year since 1973 is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our

time: abortion. Join us and half a million pro-lifers as we head once again to Washington, D.C.

on Friday, January 19, 2018 for the 45th annual March For Life as we walk from the Washington

Monument up Constitution Av to the Supreme Court. Always peaceful and uplifting, The March For Life offers you

the opportunity to stop in at your federal legislators' offices and let them know how you feel (and vote!). Defunding the

abortion industry, de-funding embryonic stem cell research, voting down "right to die" and "death with dignity" eutha-

nasia legislation are all current hot-button topics you can weigh in on.

We hope that you can join us! Round-trip transportation is still only a $10 donation which may be paid with a check payable to St.

Jerome’s Church. Bus passengers under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. To sign-up or for fur-

ther information: call Kathryn 732-581-9735.
