Faculty of Global Human Sciences Kobe University’s Faculty of Global Human Sciences aims to produce ‘cooperative global graduates’ who can tackle global issues (the issues facing today’s society that need to be addressed through cooperation on a global scale) with a deep sense of human understanding and compassion, and are also capable of contributing to building a global society where people across the world can coexist beyond borders. The faculty aims to achieve these objectives by awarding bachelor’s degrees according to the following policy.
o Bachelor’s Degree (Bachelor of Arts) ・Curriculum Policy ・Department of Global Cultures The curriculum of the Department of Global Cultures in the Faculty of Global
Human Sciences is structured as follows, based on the Curriculum Policy of Kobe University.
1. In order to impress upon students a sense of enhanced humanity, creativity and
international awareness, the university has established common courses to be taken by all students. These include basic liberal arts courses, integrated liberal arts courses, advanced liberal arts courses, foreign language courses, first-year seminars, career courses, information science courses, health and physical education courses and other courses deemed mandatory.
2. The following specialized courses (including common basic courses for majors
and the advanced liberal arts courses offered by the faculty) enable students to acquire a high level of scholarship and develop a specialization.
・Faculty-wide common basic courses enable students to develop the ability to take a critical and logical approach to global issues, and to cooperate with others and demonstrate leadership, as well as to develop the ability to communicate effectively using foreign languages and ICT, and acquire information-gathering and analytical skills.
・Faculty-wide common advanced courses enable students to develop the ability to collect and analyze diverse information in order to identify questions involving global issues, as well as to communicate freely using foreign

・Department-wide common courses enable students to develop the basic knowledge and foreign language communication skills required to understand global cultures.
・Department-wide core courses enable students to develop core specialist knowledge relating to global cultural formation, global social dynamics and global communication.
・Department-wide advanced courses enable students to develop advanced specialist knowledge relating to global cultural formation, global social dynamics and global communication.
These courses often involve active learning or experiential study in the form of
lectures, practical learning, practical training or other classroom formats, and interactive learning in small groups is actively encouraged. The global studies program also includes overseas studies and field studies.
Assessments are carried out in a pluralistic and comprehensive manner in line with the relevant learning objectives.
