BEFORE - 3 Handle Tub and ShowerValve

AFTER - 1 Handle Tub and ShowerValve

3 Handle Valve to 1 Handle Valve Update Plate

Thank You for purchasing the Tub and Shower Valve UPDATE PLATE. We are confident that this kit will help you in upgrading your tub and shower valve system while providing a very satisfactory look. This product has been developed by a plumber with many years of experience. Hopefully you will find it to be very installer friendly and a perfect solution to the necessary replacement of your existing tub and shower valve installation. Please understand that when installing a tub and shower valve it is always better to secure that valve within the wall. Many times, for whatever reason, valves are not properly secured within the wall and therefore are "floating". The Tub and shower Valve UPDATE PLATE can be installed in accordance with both a secured valve or a floating one and the installation will differ depending on how your valve sits (secured or floating). Please make note of this as you read through the instructions before you begin your installation.

    1. Shut off the main water valve that serves the existing tub and shower valve. 2. Remove the trim, stems (if possible), and tub spout from the existing tub and shower valve.

3A. Center the CUTOUT TEMPLATE with the existing tub and shower valve while sitting the bottom of it on the tub apron. Draw a line around the CUTOUT TEMPLATE.

3B. Cut out the wall along the line you have drawn around the CUTOUT TEMPLATE. Remove the cut out portion and debris. Inner wall, piping and existing tub and shower valve should now be exposed. If the wall around the tub and shower valve is tile we recommend using a grinder with a diamond blade. It may be a good idea to vacuum the dust directly as you grind.

5A. Install your new single handle, updated tub and shower valve. The valve can either be secured to the interior studs of the wall or left floating. A floating valve can be secured to the tub and shower valve updateplate. We recommend securing the valve if at all possible.

5B. Make sure that the center of the tub and shower valve will line up with the center of large hole in the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE (should measure 10 inches from the tub apron to the stem of your newly installed tub and shower valve). Make sure tub and shower valve is positioned at the proper depth in the wall per the manufacturers instructions, and that the tub spout supply pipe is positioned at 4 inches to the center of the pipe from the tub apron.

    4. Cut the hot, cold and showerhead supply pipes and remove the existing valve, tub spout piping and tub spout. Be sure to leave enough exposed piping on the hot, cold and shower supply so that you can reconnect the new valve.

6A. If the 1 handle valve is free floating and needs to be secured to the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE, the VALVE TO PLATE SPACERS will need to be used to make the assembly more rigid. To do so, before installing the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE andyour tub and shower valve decide the proper depth that the tub and shower valve will be sitting inside of the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE. While holding the tub and shower valve at this depth inside of the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE, measure from the back of the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE to the front or face of the horizontal hot and cold supply pipes that will be feeding your tub and shower valve. Make note of this measurement. If your tub and shower valve is secure in the wall skip to step 7A.

6B. Take the VALVE TO PLATE SPACERS and measure from the bottom of the U back toward the straight edge. Transfer the previously noted

measurement here. Cut the VALVE TO PLATE SPACERS at this measurement so that they will fit in between the pipes feeding the tub and shower valve and the back of the plate. Please make sure to make this a straight and accurate cut. It is always a good idea to double check your measurement and make sure you have chosen the proper depth for your tub and shower valve per its manufacturers specifications.

6C. Insert the VALVE TO PLATE SPACERS in the valve to plate spacer holders on the back of the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE. Make sure that they are positioned properly so that the pipes serving thetube and shower valve sit properly inside of the U of the valve to plate spacers and that the tub spout supply pipe protrudes from the smaller hole in the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE in the proper position so that it can be clipped.

Rear view of proper Valve to Plate Spacer installation.

7A. The PLATE TO FASTENER SPACERS need to be cut. In order to cut them properly measure the thickness of the wall where you have made the hole in the tub surround.

7B. Add 1/8th of an inch from the Wall Thickness measurement and cut the PLATE TO FASTENER SPACER to that length. Measure and cut each plate to WALL TO FASTENER SPACER individually because wall thicknesses may vary.

13. Install the tub and shower valve trim according to the tub and shower valve manufacturer's instructions.

    8. Turn the hot and cold water supplies back on while making sure that there are no leaks. 9. Put a 1/4 inch bead if caulking along the back edge of the Tub and Shower Valve UPDATE PLATE. (We recommend a vinyl adhesive caulk. Use a color of your choice.)

    10. Push the 4 inch screw through one of the holes, where you measured the wall thickness, in the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE, through the PLATE TO FASTENER SPACER and the into the FASTENERS while securing the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE to the wall. 11. (Secured valve install) Attach the plate to the existing tub surround wall while using the supplied 4 inch screws, TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE to wall fastener spacers and the wall fasteners. Tighten until the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE is snug to the wall and the caulking has squeezed out creating a watertight seal. Clean off excess caulking. (Floating valve install) when tightening these screws the tub and shower valve body will pull towards the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE therefore sandwiching the VALVE TO PLATE SPACERS and securing your tub and shower valve to the TUB AND SHOWER VALVE UPDATE PLATE. CAUTION! SIMPLY SNUG UP THE SCREWS FROM THE TRIM/ COVER PLATE TO THE TUB AND SHOWER VALVE BODY. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN

    12. If needed install supplied TUB SPOUT SUPPLY CLIP using the 1/2" SCREW provided.
