NZUSI Newsletter - November 2019
Dear All
Greetings from Meerut.
I am sure all of us had a joyous Deepawali. The nip in the air heralds the onset of winters.
We are now on the cusp of our marquee event – the 29th edition of the Annual Conference
of our Zonal Chapter. I look forward to participation by our members in large numbers.
The Organizing team led by Dr Ajit Saxena and Dr Sanjay Garg are burning the midnight oil to provide for an
experience par excellence. Greater Noida being virtually an extension of New Delhi provides not only
multiple options but ease of connectivity as well. To reduce local logistic issues, all events are planned at
the venue - Hotel Crowne Plaza, itself.
The Council led by our tireless Secretary has curated a broad based scientific program to appeal to all
sections. We have three distinguished gentlemen from overseas apart from our own national and zonal
faculty. To provide members with a crisp and clear learning experience, the live operative workshop has
been replaced by a video workshop and a 'Step by Step' session on a few procedures. Two sessions
introduced last year which generated interest have been carried forward – 'Survivor Debate' and 'Inter
Institutional Quiz'. I expect that the two new sessions introduced this year shall catch the attention of
delegates. 'North Zone Got Talent' is to find hidden gems within our fraternity who for some reasons have
not been able to present at our meetings, the two winners shall manage a session at next NZUSICON.
'Landmark Studies' is to critically analyze path breaking clinical studies which influence day to day patient
management decisions.
Another initiative this year has been creation of the “President's Club”. This is to recognize the immense
contribution of our stalwarts and mentors, because of whom we are where we are. An event is being held on
the eve of our meeting to felicitate and honour all Past Presidents of NZUSI. I am happy to report that all
except one Past President shall grace the occasion by their esteemed presence.
Another remarkable development this year was establishment of state chapters in all states of our zone
except one. We now have state units in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab (with Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh),
Rajasthan and Uttarakhand & Uttar Pradesh. All the state successfully conducted annual meetings. I shall
urge Urologists in Jammu and Kashmir to formalize their defunct association as soon as possible.
Our members need to be complemented for taking steps to ensure a better future for the young Urologists.
All meetings are now targeted towards only urologists and participation by general surgeons is actively
discouraged. Similarly participation in operative sessions in non-urological events has nosedived. The next
step which involves some of the young urologists themselves is to stop 'back door' surgeries.
The Indo Mediterranean Urology Conclave held recently was an opportunity for discussion on life choices,
an important yet neglected topic. There was genuine bonding of urologists and their families as the group
visited scenic locales in Italy, Greece & Croatia.
As I approach the end of my term, I once again thank members of NZUSI for having given me this
opportunity. Special thanks to the Council Members for their unstinted support and suggestions. I am truly
humbled by the weight of your expectations.
Before I end, I urge all members to participate in NZUSICON @Greater Noida.
Look forward to meeting you. I am look sure SUNG shall provide us a meeting extraordinaire.
Greater glory to NZUSI.
Jai Hind.

President's Message
NZUSI Newsletter - November 2019
Honorary Secratary Message
Dear Members,
Greetings from NZUSI office
I once again thank all the members of North zone to have given me the opportunity to serve
our society for the last two years.
Before leaving the post of Hony Secretary of this esteemed society I want to make a few
suggestions:
1. Now we have a body of 900 plus members with around 500 full members, probably
the second largest zonal society. We have five state chapters, several city chapters
and uncountable company and hospital sponsored activities. I was fortunate to
have a very supportive team which helped me to avoid breakup with my family
and profession but in future to keep the growing momentum we need to distribute
our work amongst all the office bearers.
2. We need to make SOPs and strengthen our guidelines for organising the Annual meetings and CMEs to make
them relevant and enriching.
3. It would be a great idea to have some research and continuous academic activities in the form of multicentric
studies, webinars, Faculty and resident exchange programme etc.
4. We have tried to improve the website with News & Views section, legal cell with consent forms, NZUSI studio,
updating our constitution and other guidelines. This needs constant updating and improvement with
innovative ideas.
5. I was fortunate to have NZUSI office in the later part of my tenure and the office needs to be properly utilised to
streamline all our activities. I take this opportunity to gratefully acknowledge the tremendous help and
support by our CEOs Mr. Navneet and Mrs Kiran Arora in running our day to day activities.
6. As our society grows in number as well as various activities it is incumbent to have frequent meetings and
constant communication amongst the members of the council. Besides the Executive council meetings
happening almost every three months, the ZOOM meetings on our laptop /mobile phones was a simple and
time saving way to discuss things . Such meeting could be done more frequently in future.
7. In the Annual meetings and CMEs we have tried to bring some innovative ideas like the Non urological talks
/sessions, CME on medicolegal aspects of urology, skit on Communication skills etc. I feel we should all
contribute to make our meetings more interesting and worth attending with such novel ideas.
8. The scientific programme in all our meetings was developed with an aim of giving opportunity to maximum
no. of members especially the upcoming bright young urologists. The North zone talent search competition in
Noida is again an initiative in this direction. This objective should be strengthened further in our future
endeavours.
9. We need to involve our trainee residents more and more .The Inter college Quiz, Faculty resident debate, Meet
the Professor session etc were some of the initiatives taken in this direction.
10. The two International meetings, Indo Mauratian and Indo Mediterranean urology conclaves, were a superhit
and highly appreciated by all the participants. It was a great opportunity for the urologists with their spouses
and children to intermingle and interact with family like affection and camaraderie. I hope this is continued
which will help our members to come closer and know each other better.
11. Last but not the least, managing finances has always been a bone of contention. In last two years we tried to
streamline them with proper audits by recruiting a regular accountant and CA. I am sure our treasurer would
further improve it.
At the end I acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude the brotherly love and support of our President Dr Anil Elhence,
guidance and cooperation of our past President Dr S P Yadav, President Elect Dr Amlesh Seth, Secretary Elect Dr Anup
Kumar, Past Treasurer Dr Subhash Yadav, Treasurer Dr Vijay Bora and all past and present council members.
Looking forward to see you in Noida

Events Held
A week of bliss - The NZUSI Mediterranean Cruise by Dr Aditya Pradhan
After the resounding success of Mauritius, Anil Ehlence decided to ‘enhance’ the experience further by
getting the NZUSI on a cruiseliner. After the initial ‘yahs” and ‘ naas ‘of folks resulted in about 50 folks
signing up by Aug , the excitement built up so that some last minute entrants like N P Gupta also hopped on
. We finally landed at Venice with a gang of 60 rearing to board the ship – Costa Deliziosa. This massive
cruiseliner with 2000 passengers and 1000 crew was a sight to behold .
The promise of unlimited booze was just too much to resist , and kicked off no sooner than getting on
board. By the time the first beer was done and plans for the first evening chalked out the ship was already on
the high seas, so silent and majestic in her size and comfort. Exploring 11 decks and umpteen restraunts
and bars over the fore and aft of the ship got us all rearing to start with the gluttony right off.. The news that
we had a Michelin 5 star chef on board prompted us to reach out for exotic meats and fish displayed on the
massive buffet spreads.
Later in the evening a dance troupe had us spell bound – At a massive theatre of 500 capacity complete with
box seats and a balcony- right at midship.
The first noon saw us touch the small port of Bari in south Italy. On a beautiful sunny afternoon we strolled
Old Town Bari and watched woment making fresh pastas an breads. The splendid limestone houses of Trulli
of Alberobello made a perfect spot for a photoshoot of the UNESCO heritage village.
Beyong Bari , the Deli Ziosa sailed across the Adriatic sea to Greece. Our first port of call in Greece was the
western port of Corfu. This beautiful town with its historic white buildings and lovely parks makes it one of
the preferred destinations for Hollywood and Bollywood shoots . A stroll in the old market got many folk
buying the famous Greek olive oil, Balsamic Vinegar and Green Tea.
Having rounded the Greek peninsula , we next touched port at the volcanic islands of Santorini. Having a
shallow port meant the ship anchored off shore and a fleet of small boats ferried us to the town. The all
white houses of Oia and Thira with the blue waters of the Aegean Sea makes Santorini the dream holiday
destination of Greece- at a price – hotels at about 350- 400 euros a night for that once in a lifetime
experience.
Our last stop in Greece was the small Island of Mykonos. Most of us choose to spend the day at the beautiful
beech there called Paradise Beach. Meant to be the heaven for gays and nudists, Mykonos is a party town
with umpteen restaurants and bars catering to the queers of the world.
Then was a whole day at sea sailing northwords towards Croatia. The time was well spent with the Para
Urology Conclave being hosted by NZUSI . We had various presentations teaching us how to earn more
money, invest better and retire comfortably The last port of call was the idyllic city of Dubrovnik . This port
city of Southern Croatia was devastated in the Civil Wars of the 90s. What is seen today is the amazing
resurgence of the town into a popular tourist resort. The old city , the fort and Cathedral and cobbled
streets are a delight to walk around.
The 6 days ended on a high – back at Venice. Having said our goodbyes- some continuning on an Italian
vacation and the rest of us flying home. – all asking Anil Ehlence- "Yeh Dil Mange More".
