REVOLUTION for a Lifetime
Since the Relief Bus first outreach 25 years ago, our volunteers, staff and outreach leaders have faithfully served with compassion. This compassion is contagious. Throughout the organizations history, over 63,000 volunteers have been mobilized and challenged to serve with compassion, kindness and hope.
Life transformation is the only way that a city can truly change. Each life contributes to the wave of change that transforms a neighborhood, a community and a city. NYCR has been privileged to witness transformation in the lives of the poor and homeless we serve, in our team and in the volunteers that serve with us. The ripple effect is too great to document.

4Delia had been lost on the streets for thirty years. She was stuck in a desperate cycle of drug abuse, alcohol addiction and prostitution when someone told her about a bus that was giving away free soup. At the Relief Bus she met Johanna,
our outreach team leader, and Monica, one of our faithful vol-unteers. She remembers being rude to Johanna and Monica and being hesitant to return for the free soup. She would think, The way I treated them last week... and they are still loving me?After countless prayers and shared cups of soup Delia be-gan a new life in Christ. She miraculously beat the odds by detoxing from alcohol, cocaine and methadone. Today she of-fers hope to 200 kids a week through a sidewalk Sunday school program in the Brooklyn Bushwick projects. She contin-ues to volunteer with NYCR and is a beautiful example of a life that has been transformed.

Maddy has volunteered with New York City Relief since she was twelve years old. She chose to serve with us on her birthday, year after year, despite the fact that she suffered from seizures. In her state of physi-cal brokenness, she was able to relate to the brokenness of the homeless. Our team has been praying for her for years and recently she had surgery that re-sulted in her becoming seizure-free!
She shares about her experi-ence on the Relief Bus: I think going out on the bus was and is a great mission and I know that I learned as much from the people on the streets as I was able to help them with.

SEARCH AND RESCUE
NYCR INTERNSHIP Training Revolutionaries
The Relief Bus outreach consists of two former school buses that are now customized mobile resource centers that help the poor and homeless. People on the streets show up for great food, but they come away with so much more. Staff and volunteers go out of their way to really LOVE people. Many people on the streets are in a hard place and need a friend who will really listen. When we discover the needs in peoples lives, we connect them to shelters, job training, medical care, detox and faith-based drug/alcohol rehabilitation centers. This kind of helping hand can literally transform someones future, and can make the difference between life and death. We have seen men and women completely turn their lives around because someone they met on the bus took the time to care.
Search & Rescue is what we call a new type of outreach that New York City Relief is pioneering. Unlike the standard outreaches using The Relief Bus vehicles, this new outreach is done on foot, working in small teams. The strategy is to take these teams into and around Penn Station to engage, minister personal care and connect the homeless to resources that can bring life transformation. Significant encounters and opportunities are expanding due to this new weekly street outreach.
For many years, New York City Relief has hosted interns from all over the world. Interns provide a valuable service on the street by helping to feed the hungry, facilitating volunteers and building relationships with the homeless. This frees up the Outreach Team Leader to do assessments, write referrals and connect the homeless to vital resources that lead to life transformation. By expanding the program, we increase the number of people we are able to help on the streets exponentially. Interns work to fulfill our mission, and they finish the program with the training to make a global impact.

NEW YORK CITY RELIEF IS AT MAXIMUM CAPACITYNYCR is primed to grow and help more of the homeless to find life transformation. We have a proven, fine-tuned program that works. To move forward in our strategic plan we need space to expand The Relief Bus outreach staff, allowing us to mobilize more of the volunteer army to attack homelessness and despair in the lives of the broken, offering real pathways to change and a future. To accomplish this vision we will build, or acquire and renovate a new second facility to be named the City Change Center which will expand the Relief Bus Outreach and house the Leader-ship Training Center.
