Urban DecayDigital Rendering2010The rendering is a critique of the eminent decay of nature caused by the growth of cities. As a society we long for nature, placing pretty gardens in our cities, but we do little to protect our environment. Nature in this sense is both indispensable and disposable.

ArmatureThe des ign of the armature stems from the dom inant warp ing l inear elements of the Balance Block.The Plaster Block is a spat ial moment found by study of the vert ical and hor izontal planes , as well as the l inear elements of the Balance Block.

The Armature reflects the asymmetr ical nature of the Plaster Block wh ile cradl ing it w ith a custom f it . It adds dynamic to the mundane faces and reflects the geometry of the more evaporat ive faces. The result is a totem with st imulat ing v iews from all s ides.

The f inal product comb ines Operat ive Spaces into an exper ient ial sequence of funct ions.The concept was developed iterat ively through Rh ino and Phys ical Models.

The explorat ion of operat ive - funct ion based - des ign through iterat ive implementat ion of spat ial verbs began with document ing and index ing the body and creat ing A "Corbus ian" modular.

Spaces were des igned to serve part icular operat ions us ing the modular as a gu idel ine. They were then developed further by use of the following spat ial vocabulary:

Stand/Shear/Reflect. S it/Carve/Pack. Cl imb/Extrude/Array. Lean/Spl it/Jo in. Lay/Fracture/Array.

The des ign concept explores the underly ing tens ion of grace and strength in both dance and swimm ing. The Butterfly stroke , known as the most "sexy stroke" in sw imm ing became the insp irat ion for the form of the bu ild ing. The form of the curve is the bas is of explorat ion of the south elevat ion and how it could relate to the c ity , the bu ild ing and the mass ive programs it would hold.

BuildingFrom WithoutThe Monarch Center is a dance tra in ing fac il ity for C inc innat i 's var ious ensembles. The pool and theater act as supports , both l iterally and f igurat ively , for the dance stud ios.

The exploded axon shows how each program connects to the central stairwell atrium, as well as how each mass interacts and connects to the other.

The Corbett Center for Preform ing Arts was des igned by Henry N. Cobb of the New York f irm Pe i Cobb Freed & Partners. Its expans ive feel and use of compress ion and release made it an intr igu ing space for analyt ical study.

Secret SpaceThe overall insp irat ion of the space is drawn from the works of Helmut Jahn. Post Tower is the bu ild ing used to create the qu ilt for spat ial explorat ion. The result ing floor plan is an analys is of space wh ich creates an choreographed exper ience drawing one into the secret space. Every entrance of the space draws you towards the secret space wh ich can not be seen into but rather through. The goal is to intr igue the v is itor to f ind the ir way to the secret space.

Habitable SpaceOur stud io was tasked to create a sequent ial space that inv ites the pedestr ian to move through and stop along its path. As representat ive on the s ite plann ing team, I developed the annotated plan and topography map used for s ite analys is and model ing. I also developed deta il ing and scaled prototyp ing of my stud io 's Un it dur ing the iterat ive des ign process , as well as the f inal construct ion plans and fabr icat ion of a cant ilevered port ion of the installat ion.

The space includes a generous Cash-Wrap counter , Access ible bathroom, break room and storage area and an open floor plan.

The store layout needed to keep the charm and character of the ex ist ing reta il locat ion in Over-The-Rh ine C inc innat i wh ile be ing a p ilot for new reta il locat ions.

The plan ensures A welcom ing and insp ir ing space - showcas ing both new and old complementary.

The tower cons ists of two k inds of un its. Each has access to a trash chute and a large "Yard"

e ither to the front of rear.

Each un it has 3 bedrooms , 2.5 bathrooms , a gourmet k itchen and open plan. T ile installat ions would be in each bathroom, the

k itchen and entry hall , and the Yard.

Due to Code restr ict ions , m in imal apertures could be placed on the s ides of the bu ild ing. T ile could be used on the facade to help d irect

l ight into the "shotgun" space.

Architectural Tile This theoret ical Project explored the appl icat ion of t ile on a large scale res ident ial bu ild ing.

Work ing from the ground up , the floor-plates were des igned to allow max imum t ile installat ion wh ile keep ing the cost of each Condomin ium pr iced adequately.

Tetris HouseThis house was des igned w ith ing code requ irements to f it on a standard Ch icago lot.

The concept interprets the way Tetr is shapes interlock to develop the form of the house.
