Church Exhibition and Sale SuccessThis year saw an increase in visitors through the doors as more people visited Scotland for their holidays. With our total sales at around the £5000 mark this is essential income to help support the work of the Church over the year. The exhibition was enhanced by a photographic presentation by the Inveraray History Workshop.During the two months a number of people requested a visit to the Church and were interested in its history. Arrangments may be made in future to have the Church open to visitors during the holiday period.www.inveraraychurch.org.uk

Inveraray World Champion Pipe Band 2009

Congratulations to our pipe bandsWe are extremely proud of the achievements of our two pipe bands. Our senior band recently won the Grade Two World Championship title. This will be the third world title in a row. For the young band it is their first full year playing in competitions, yet they came fourth in their competition. As a community, we would like to congratulate the members of the bands and their Pipe Majors, Stuart Liddell and Robert Stewart.www.idpb.co.uk/

Work Starts on Restoring the Community HallA new Hall Committee have already started to repair the Community Hall after many months when it was considered unsuitable for the public to use. The roof has been cleared of moss and vegetation and necessary repairs are being carried out.

Inveraray Shinty Team Win the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup and the Macaulay Cup

Following a difficult start to this season as a result of player injuries, Inveraray Shinty Club was unable to field a full First Team until June when they were victorious over Oban Camanachd retaining the Celtic Cup for a further year. This triumph was followed in August by an exciting MacAulay Cup final in which Inveraray successfully defended the MacAulay Cup. Despite having the majority of possession in the first half, Inveraray were 3 1 down to Kingussie at half time, but rallied and fought back to win 4 3, the fourth goal being snatched by Grant Griffin in the first minute or two of injury time. This was a well-deserved win, a tremendous achievement and a great boost for the Club. For what is left of this season the First Team can now turn their full

attention to playing their remaining games in the Premier League.

Lady Charlotte ChristeningOn Sunday 23rd August Their Graces The Duke and Duchess of Argyll presented their daughter Lady Charlotte Mary Campbell for her baptism blessing at the morning service. As Admiral of the Western Coasts and Isles, the Duke of Argyll s daughter had the privilege of being christened on board HMS Argyll on the Saturday.

School DaysThe pupils of Inveraray Primary School are looking for your help. The school grounds have been developed over the last 10 years into an excellent teaching and learning space as well as a place to play with all the children involved as well as parents and carers. As we apply for our fourth Eco Schools Award we still have some projects identified by the pupils to take forward before the assessment, and that's where you come in. If you can spare some time to help us we would like to hear from you - parents, carers past pupils and members of the community. Look out for the leaflet coming through your door soon telling you about our projects.

As I turned around... (A reflection by Louis Bezuidenhout)It is my privilege to write a reflection for the first edition of the new Nutshell. As I was writing this paragraph, I stared at my computer screen. My computer screen is filled with words and pictures, previous essays, internet documents - a world of information at our fingertips - yet, no inspiration...

Then I turned around - and as I turned around and looked through the window, I saw a beautiful rainbow over the loch. It was there only for a moment, but what a glorious moment!

Great beauty is to be found in the transient appearance of a rainbow. It cannot be preserved, it cannot be owned - it can only be appreciated by those who 'turn around' when it is there.

How many rainbows do we miss in life - rainbows of friendship, of beauty, of love, of kindness - simply because we are so occupied with other things and even with ourselves that we do not bother to 'turn around' when it is there!

Now and Then - ShippingJuly 2009... Redundant container vessels are laid up in Loch Striven due to the current recession and the lack of world trade.

July 1978... The school football team were able to visit Loch Striven and view the redundant oil tankers .

The proceeds raised go to the local Argyll South Pony Club.Special thanks to all who helped and to our sponsors.Various rallies are to take place, 30th August in Tarbert, 20th September at Killinochnoch, 27th September in Tarbert.
